FAIR QUEEN — Lee Ann Willits, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willits of Syracuse, who entered the Kosciusko Fair Queen contest as Miss Syracuse, was crowned queen at the close of the fair last year. Lee Ann is a 1973 graduate of Wawasee high school. - In back from left to right are Cindy Rinkle, Miss Mentone, who was second runner-up; 1971 queen Chris Miner, also of Mentone; and first runner-up Randy Mishler, Miss Pierceton. The Miss Congeniality award went to Jo Anne Rassi, Miss Milford.
Syracuse girl holds t. 1972 fair queen title
Pretty Lee Ann Willits of Syracuse is the reigning Kosciusko county fair queen. She will be on hand to oversee the activities of the 57th annual fair which is set to get underway next Monday night. Lee Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willits of Syracuse. She is a 1973 graduate of Wawasee high school. She will be on hand Saturday night for the coronation of the new queen. Miss Kosciusko County Fair 1973 will be the 19th girl so chosen. She will be chosen by voters who contribute one cent for each vote they wish to cast. The money is used for the county speech and hearing aid fund. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alpha Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi with the cooperation of the county fair board. 4-H Livestock auction set for Thursday, August 9
By DONALD E. FRANTZ Area Extension Agent The sale of 4-H club livestock will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Kosciusko county fair. The sale will begin at 5:30 p.m. The order of selling will be sheep, hogs and beef cattle. It is estimated that about 100 lambs, 150 hogs and 140 steers will be sold. Each 4-H member may sell one exhibit of livestock in each department. He is limited however to two sales. For example a member may sell one steer and one hog but may not sell two steers. The sale grossed in excess of SBO,OOO in 1972 being one of the most successful sales in the middle west. No estimates have been made for 1973. Weights of livestock are limited to acceptable market weights. Hogs under 175 and over 240 pounds are not permitted in order

1972 CHAMPION SELLS FOR $1.60 — The grand champion steer of the 1972 Kosciusko county fair, a 1,235 pound Simmental Hereford belonging to Jon Cousins of r 2 Milfmrd, sold for $1.60 per pound at the annual livestock auction. The animal brought a total of $1,976 for his young owner. Jon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cousins of near Milford. Claypool merchants who purchased the animal are shown above. to insure the buyers they are getting top market livestock. In years past the over weight hogs have been permitted to sell at 240 pounds. This was not specifically stated in the 1973 rules and may be done again, however, the sale committee has passed a resolution that this will be the last year in which over weight hogs will be permitted to sell at all. Cattle under 750 pounds will not be sold. » Persons buying livestock and consigning their purchases directly to 3 stockyard may make arrangements at the sale. The clerking will be done by the Lake City and First National Banks of Warsaw. Buyers will settle directly with the clerks. Stan Scott. Dairy cattle open classes will be shown on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11 at the Kosciusko county fair. The Guernsey, Ayrshire, Brown Swiss and Jersey breeds will be judged beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10. The Holsteins will be exhibited on Saturday, Aug. 11. All cattle to be shown must be accompanied by health papers in accordance with state health regulation 72-1. Emra Stookey of Milford is superintendent of the dairy department and will be assisted by Myron Metzger, Kenneth Dickey and Don Goon.
