14 YEARS AGO. JULY 16.1959 Mr, and Mrs. James Chambers and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Etweile returned last Friday from a weeks vacation in Colorado. Carlton Beer was one of 1,310 new members admitted to the Holstein-Friesian Association of America by recent action of the board of directors. Several girls from the Milford Girl Scout troops are attending day camp in Warsaw this week. Don Byrd, professional golfer and owner of the Wawasee Golf course on the north shore of Lake Wawasee, will be the speaker before the Milford Lions club Monday night. Mrs. Russell Neff was hostess to 12 members of the Eta Beta Pi sorority Monday evening at her apartment in the hotel building.

In a survey made on road 6 last week it was found that six cars passed every minute. A new traffic warning signal has been installed by the Big Four railroad Co. at the crossing near the Edward Lentz property. The prosperity of a community is not measured by population but its civic and commerical progress. For the past two weeks since the medicine show came to town, it has been the main attraction to the public. Two scholarships were awarded this county by Indiana university with one going to Harriet Bachman, daughter of Charles Bachman of Syracuse, and the other to a young lady in Pierceton. The Kosciusko county Rural Letter Carrier’s association and ladies auxiliary met at Yellow Creek Lake July 7 with 60 present. Cincinnati man stricken on golf coiirse South Shore Golf course in Syracuse was the scene of a first aid call, around 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 3. Vor dem Esche of Cincinnati, Ohio, suffered a heart attack on the course. Syracuse first aidmen were called to the scene and an ambulance took Esche from the golf course club house to a local doctor and on to Goshen hospital.

gj- - FIREWORKS — A most difficult trick with a camera is that of photographing fireworks. A Mail-Journal lensman did this triple exposure to capture the effects of the Syracuse fireworks last Wednesday evening. It was a beautifully clear night and many who watched the fireworks considered them among the best ever held at Syracuse city park. Conservation officer Earl Money said he estimated from 500 to 600 boats on Syracuse Lake watching the display of pyrotechnics. Donations to cover the cost are continuing to be taken by Tom Prickett at his men’s store and by John Kroh at Thornburg’s drug store. The two men made up the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce fireworks committee.
