OBITUARIES
Sheridan B. Betes Sheridan “Bill” Betes, 47? 606 S. Front street, Syracuse, died suddenly Saturday at 4:20 p.m. at Goshen hospital. Death was due to a coronary. Betes was bom December 24, 1925 in Chicago, 111., to Sheridan and Olive (Cable) Betes. He married Grace Swanson, May 5, 1951 in Chicago, and moved to Syracuse the following year. A veteran of WW 11, Betes was an industrial engineer for Essex International in Andrews. He was also a member of the Syracuse fire department. Surviving along with his wife and mother, are one son, Robert Betes of Syracuse; and one sister, Mrs. William (Elnora) Pipp of Syracuse. Services were held Monday with Rev. David Mueller officiating. Burial was in Cable cemetery. t I John Bidelman John Bidelman, 92, father of Mrs. Ira (Mary) Nine of North Webster, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw. The death of Mr. Bidelman, r 2 Warsaw, was due to complications following a fall he sustained June 8. Born June 22, 1881 in Mentone, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Vandermark) Bidelman. Bidelman was married June 30, 1903 to Mabyl Houghtaling, who preceded him in death in July of 1967. A farmer and former railroad employee, Bidelman was a member of the Mentone Masonic lodge and attended the Mount Pleasant United Methodist church. He had resided in Kosciusko county most of his life. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Nine; two.sons, Charles and Gilbert Bidelman, both of Marshall, Mich.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Services were conducted

Friday, June 22, in Claypool. Interment was in Gracela,nd cemetery, also in Claypool. Mrs. Betty Kaufman Mrs. Betty T. Kaufman, 50, box - 541 Syracuse, passed away at 2:25 a.m., Monday, June 25, at Goshen hospital. Death was due to complications from an illness of four months. Mrs. Kaufman was born March 4,1923 in North Liberty to Clyde and Kathryn (Chappell) Palmer. Having resided in Syracuse most of her life, she was married April 19, 1963 to Leonard Kaufman in Milford. Mrs. Kaufman worked as a cook. Surviving, along with her husband, Leonard, are her mother, Kathryn Line of Syracuse; four daughters, Susan E. Stump of Syracuse, Mrs. David (Judith) Wolf of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Ronnie (Sally) Zentz of Syracuse and Deborah Stump, North Webster; one son, Thomas Stump of North Webster; one brother, Bill Palmer of Columbia City; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Carol) Clayton of Syracuse, Mrs. Warren (Ila) Alwine of Goshen and Mrs. Bert (Ellen) Thompson, Wheaton, Ill.; seven grandchildren. Services were held this afternoon (Wednesday) with Rev. Marvin Jones officiating. Burial was in McClintock cemetery. Dr. Nelson Ludwig Funeral services . were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday for Dr. Nelson G. Ludwig, 86, 205 Van Buren St., Leesburg, who passed away Wednesday at 7:45-p.m. He had been in failing health for the past five years and death occurred at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw. Dr. Ludwig was born on June 7, 1887 in Kosciusko county and was united in marriage on October 11, 1955 to Irene Shull. She preceded him in death in 1965 and in 1967 he
was united in marriage to Sylvia E. Francis. Dr. Ludwig was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko county, a veteran of WWI and a past member of John C. Peterson post 49 of the American Legion in Warsaw. Surviving with the widow is one daughter, Mrs. Ferrell (Electa) Linn, Indianapolis; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Juanita Robinson, Goshen; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Wesley of Gentryville. Rev. Joseph Hayes officiated with interment in the Hillcrest cemetery. Eva McKibben Funeral services were held at the graveside in the Syracuse cemetery at 1 p.m. on Saturday for Eva Lucille McKibben, 68, r 2 Syracuse. Mrs. McKibben died last Wednesday evening in the Goshen hospital of complications following an illness of several years. The deceased was born in Syracuse on August 21, 1904 to Robert and Ellen (Wilkinson) Eppert. She lived in this community her entire life. She and Clarence McKibben were married in 1921. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1962. Prior to her illness Mrs. McKibben was employed at Syracuse Rubber. Surviving are three sons, Robert Wiles, and Charles and Morris McKibben, all of Syracuse; one daughter, Mrs. Dewey (Maxine) Laughlin of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; ahd 12 great grandchildren. One daughter Mrs. Harold (Waneta) Schrock preceded her in death in 1968. Mrs. Amy Wehner Mrs. George (Amy) Wehner, 72, mother of Mrs. Robert H. (Winifred) Smith, Jr., of Syracuse, owner of Winnie the Pooh Beauty Salon in Syracuse, died Sunday, June 23, in Madison of heart failure. Mrs. Wehner and her late husband had been very active in the Wert Baptist church in Madison.
Mrs. Wehner is survived by four other children, Alda Burke, Wiletta Stewart, Kenneth Wehner, William Wehner; 17 grandchildren; and 23 greatgrandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, at. the Wert Baptist church in Madison. Robert I. Morgan Robert I. Morgan, 60, r 4 Belle Vernon, Pa., father of Robert L. Morgan of North Webster, died in Pennsylvania Sunday following a five-day illness. Born in Wheeling, W. Va., August 21, 1912, he was vice president of Morgan Transportation Systems, Inc., of New Paris. He also worked as foreman for the WheelingPittsburgh Steel Co. at Allenport, Pa. Surviving, along with his widow, Anne E. (Crewson) Morgan, are one son, Robert of North Webster; two daughters, Miss Kathleen Morgan, at home, and Mrs. Sharon Longenecker of Eden, N.Y.; his mother, Martha Morgan of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Miss Alberta Morgan of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Mavis Roush of Follansbee, W. Va.; and six grandchildren. Services were held today (Wednesday) in Wintersville, Ohio. Interment was in Union cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio. Marion C. Bodkin Marion C. Bodkin, 81, r 1 Warsaw, died of complications at Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw at 8 a.m. Saturday. Bodkin, a resident of the Barbee Lakes area since 1957, had been in failing health for a year. Bodkin was born in Blackford county October 10, 1891 to John and Emma (Kaesaer) Bodkin. He was married in 1916 to Esther Ailman, who survives. A retired 38-year employee of Warner Gear corporation in Muncie, Bodkin was a member of the Moose lodge and the Warner Gear Smypathy club, both in Muncie. Surviving, along with his wife, are two sons, Max and Harold, both of Muncie; three grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; and (me halfsister, Mrs. Jennie Rodgers of Montpelier. Services were held in Muncie on Tuesday, and burial was in Elm Ridge cemetery. Mrs. Clarence Troup Mrs. Emma Troup, 90, formerly of 2642 Sugar Loaf Lane, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died at 3 a.m. Tuesday at a Fort Lauderdale nursing home after a one year illness. Mrs. Troup was born in Milford on October 13, 1882. She moved to Florida from Elkhart 18 yeairs ago. On November 9, 1902, she was married to Clarence Troup. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1954. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Hubert (Marie) Waugaman and Mrs. Verne (Lucile) Sechrist, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Kenneth, Elkhart; two grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ardis, in 1914, and a son, Ralph, in 1934. The body will be returned to the Yoder-Culp funeral home in Goshen where funeral arrangements will be Announced today (Wednesday). Mrs. Hazel Kurtz Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ulery Funeral home, Ligonier, for Mrs. Hazel Kurtz, 82, of 406 Lincolnway West, Ligonier. A lifetime resident of the area, death came Tuesday afternoon at the Elkhart hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks. She had been in failing health for three years. Mrs. Kurtz was born in Ligonier on April 19,1891 and was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist church. Her husband, Burt Kurtz, preceded her in death in 1954. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Margaret Chiddister of Ligonier. Rev. Charles Elam will officiate and burial will be in Oak Park cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday. Miss Marie Jensen Miss Marie Jensen of Elida, Ohio, passed away Sunday morning at the Del-Ward Nursing Home in Delphos, Ohio, where she had been a patient for ten years. A sister of the late Dean and Tone Jensen, she spent her early life in the Syracuse area. Burial was in Syracuse cemetery.
