The reigning king and queen are Annette Lear, six, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lear of Kiokuk, lowa, summer residents of North Webster. The king is Steve White, seven, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen White of North Webster. First runner-up for Cutie King was H. Scott Leiter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Leiter of Warsaw and second runner-up was Anthony Beer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Beer of Milford. First runner-up for Cutie Queen was Lisa Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith of Warsaw and second runner-up was Stephanie Rock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Rock of Nappanee.

14 YEARS AGO, JULY 2,1959 Mr. and Mrs. Evard Schuder have purchased the former Ralph Berkeypile residence on Henry street in Milford and will take possession on July 15. Fred Schori was one of a group to tour the Purdue university experimental farms Thursday of last week. The town of Milford is asking for sealed bids for the repair and sealing of certain designated streets. Mrs. Claude Robbins has been reappointed as a Republican member of the Kosciusko county welfare board by judge Seth Rowdabaugh. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Haab entertained a number of guests for dinner and the evening Saturday. Jo Ellen McClintic, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McClintic, fell on the taboggan slide at Pokagon state park recently and broke her right arm. The Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren is sponsoring an ice cream social at the Gravelton Machine shop Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Neff celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last Sunday with a dinner at a Syracuse restaurant. Milford’s Girl Stater Donna Lea Ruch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ruch, arrived home Sunday after spending a week attending Girls’ State at Indiana university. The descendants of the Joseph K. Mock family held their annual reunion Sunday at the Don Westlake home near Tippecanoe Lake. ? Mr. and Mrs. Ted R. Cunningham are moving to Bloomington, 111., today where Mr. Cunningham has accepted a position as station agent for the New: York Central Railroad company. 24 YEARS AGO, JUNE 30,1949 From 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday of last week the Giri Scouts learned handcraft. John Ferris has announced that he will open a new, all modern outdoor case on his lots near Lake Wawasee about the middle of July. x A complete rte-appraisal of property in Van Buren township began June 20 and is now in progress. Before a large crowd at Milford’s Westside park Friday evening, Warsaw’s AA defeated the Milford AA by a score of 8 to 0. Marion Stackhouse, vocational agriculture teacher at Milford, is at Purdue university at Lafayette attending the three day anhual vocational agriculture teachers conference. The county council, in a meeting held Saturday morning at Warsaw, chose Harlan H. Sharp as councilman from the first district to succeed Dr. 0. C. Stoelting of Syracuse. The Merry Maidens 4-H club met Thursday afternoon at the home of Phyllis Graff. Norman Groves underwent an operation last Wednesday in which his left eye was removed. Mr. and Mrs. John Weybright are the parents of a daughter, Sara Elizabeth, born at Phoenix, Ariz., where Mr. and Mrs. Weybright are presently residing. 30 YEARS AGO, JULY 1,1943 Lt. Frederick Kline of Camp Swift, Tex., is spending a 10 day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Kline.

The Presbyterian church of Davidson, N. C., was the setting for the wedding of Miss Doris Chambers, daughter of Mrs. Fred Sechrist, and aviation student Omar Wuthrich, son of Mrs. Minnie Wuthrich, Saturday. Sgt. and Mrs. David Clem, Miss June Coy and Bob Laudeman enjoyed a picnic supper at the park on road 6 last Thursday evening. Joyce Miller was hostess to the Merry Maiden’s 4-H club Wednesday afternoon of last week. Postmaster and Mrs. Eugene W. Felkner and son Richard are spending the summer at their cottage at Lake Waubee. Harvey Hollar and family were Sunday dinner guests of Paul Kegebine and family and Miss Zelda Oster. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wise and Miss Joyce Miller were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Neff. Mrs. Arch DeFries entertained with a birthday dinner Sunday for Arch and Jake DeFries. 40 YEARS AGO, JUNE 29,1933 On Friday several of the farmers in this vicinity opened their wheat fields and started cutting. The bank bandit who played a solo flight with the money from the Syracuse bank on April 19 was in custody at Charlotte, Mich., Thursday. Many ministers and teachers are assembled at Camp Mack this week for the training school that is in progress there. Members' s os the board of review visited Claypool and Burket to make adjustments on personal property. Seven cities in the state of Indiana will lose their rating for first class post offices. Charles Hammond came into our office early Tuesday morning with a pail full of string beans that he had just picked in his garden. The local fire company responded to an alarm Sunday which was sent in from the west

part of town. Upon arriving at the scehe, they found an automobile on fire. Turkey Creek township will be one of the first townships in Kosciusko county which will be forced to default on part of the school bonds which are payable in July because of lack of money.

Some relief came to the drought stricken crops on Sunday when a light rain fell in this community. A change has been made in the personnel of the bank at Syracuse with A. L. Miller taking the position occupied by Sol Miller as cashier.
