THE MAIL-JOURNAL Wed., June 27,1973 Memorial Revival is set Plans were announced this week for the James E. Payton revival to be held near the Payton home east of Syracuse on July 5 through 15 at 7:30 each evening. Evangelist in the big memorial tent is Hubert C. Mardock of Wichita, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bailey of Portland are song evangelists. Other pastors in the area participating will be Rev. Mark O. Frink and Rev. Max E. Zell. Mr. Payton served as an evangelist and pastor in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio prior to his death last February 6. On this day he had completed plans for this tent meeting including the persons to be participating. Death came to Mr. Pay ton that evening. The big tent and parking will be located along county road 1250 N and the Baltimore and Ohio railroad tracks on r 2 Syracuse. Ebenezer Ladies Aid holds picnic The Ebenezer Ladies aid had a picnic at their Thursday meeting in the home of Mrs. Theries Doll of Lake Wawasee. The next meeting will be held Thursday, July 19, at the Cromwell United Mthodist church. d Devotions for the 15 members and five guests present were led by Mrs. Blanche Green. Guests were Mrs. Max Burley, Mrs. Hazel Lynch, Mrs. Paul Hathaway, Mrs. Frank Aumiller and Miss Jackie Lynch. The afternoon was spent socially. Spends senior year in Avignon, France Mr. and Mrs. Paul Steffen of Milford will be welcoming their daughter, Valerie, home from France Sunday, July 1. Vai has been attending school in France since September of 1972. When Vai returns she will be bringing two French girls with her. Their names are Francoise Albert and Christine Levallois. They will be staying with the Steffens for the month of July. On July 29 the Steffens will be taking these two young ladies to the airport at O’Hare Field in Chicago. At that time two more young ladies from France will be joining the Steffens for a Short time. Valerie attended school at the Lycee Mistral high school in Avignon, France which is in southern France. She received her diploma from Wawasee high school with honors. The first of September Valerie will be “attending Manchester college where she received a scholarship and she will be studying pre-med. Driver stops on railroad tracks A one-car accident Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. resulted in injuries to Ronald L. Crabtree, 26, Milford. The mishap, which occurred four miles south of New Paris on Indiana 15, resulted in back injuries to Crabtree. Crabtree was southbound on Indiana 15 and 500 feet south of US 6 he fell asleep. The 1973 Ford LTD crossed the centerline leaving the east side of the road where he crashed through a telephone pole and skidded to a stop on the Penn Central Big Four tracks. Crabtree was traveling 65 miles per hour at the time of the accident. Damage was listed at $1,200 for the car and property. Crabtree was treated and released from Goshen hospital. Fellowship class meets on Tuesday The Fellowship class of the Syracuse Church of God met last week at the home of Mrs. Helen Richcreek at Syracuse. President Donald Nine was in charge of the meeting. Rev. Walter Williams led devotions and prayer was by Mrs. Nine. Response to roll call was a scripture verse. Members gave reports on winter trips taken and Mrs. Mary Brown was welcomed back into the group. The next meeting will be held at the Williams home with Mrs. Williams in charge of entertainment.
