The summer season r Summer’s golden glow brings to £ people of all ages a heady sense of freedom and joy of being alive. It’s a .§ time for watermelon and ice cream, sunbathing and baseball games, a time to slowly savor and enjoy to the fullest. :£ Summer is “get-away-from-it-all-and-take-a-vacation time,” and it begins S June 21. This most favorite of seasons S holds a treasure of memories for each of us. Who will ever forget things like the •:} day they first learned how to swim, or those scrumptious picnics which § tempted even the strictest of dieters? Yes, summer is an unforgettable :> blend of work, play and laughter whose magical spirit has been sought by poets § for centuries. Perhaps Winifred Welles £ has captured it best: “Once, on a cliff, I $ saw perfection happen. The full, gold g moon was balanced on the sea, Just as § the red sun rested on the moor. The g sumriier evening ripened and fell open; g And people walking through the fruit’s rich core, Were suddenly what they 5: were meant to be.”

Pafona Bay Boat Service, unusual in many respects
The Patona Bay Boat Service, located on the west end of Lake Tippecanoe, is unusual in many respects, not the least of which is that it has three generations of George Patons in active operation of the business. The boat service and marina are well known throughout the state of Indiana to anyone who has the slightest interest in boating . . . and why shouldn’t it be . S it has been in operation since 1914. Picnic Grounds First George Paton I, who, when you ask his age, smiles knowingly and says “I’ll be 88 in August,” first came to Lake Tippecanoe from Indianapolis in 1904. He says he made the trip to Kalorama Park with Walter Lindley and his son He continued to come to Lake Tippecanoe each summer until 1914 when he bought the farm where the marina is now located. He says, “At first we just had picnic grounds and rented fishing boats.” He says they still maintain picnic grounds but not for the general public. From 1935 to 1946 the Patons operated a passenger boat on the lake, George I recalls. During these years George I traveled for the SherwinWilliams Paint Co. but spent his summers promoting his interest at the Lake Tippecanoe marina. Then came George Paton 11. He has been coming to Lake Tippecanoe since he was three months old, and has never missed a summer. He gives his age now at 63 years. George II went through Indiana university law school, and upon graduation returned to Kosciusko county. He continued to practice law, and more and more became Nutone Singers at Mount Tabor church Sunday The Nutone Singers will be presenting an evening of gospel singing this Sunday evening, June 24, at the Mount Tabor church, six miles south of Nappanee at 7:30 p.m. The Nutone Singers are from Goshen. They have traveled extensively throughout the midwestern and eastern states. They have sung at a number of church related functions including missionary rallies, and evangelistic campaigns. Their recorded songs are aired over numerous Christian radio stations, and they have appeared on various television programs. The group is composed of Jo Ann McGarvey, David McGarvey, Kevin Gautsche and Kristi Gautsche. This will be an evening of joy and fellowship through gospel singing. The pastor, Darrell Prichard, invites every family to this special evening at the Mount Tabor church.

interested in the sale of lake real estate. His interest in Republican politics led him to successfully run for prosecuting attorney in the early 19405. He was also active as head of Kosciusko county Young Republicans for some time. His association with the practice of law diminished as his interest in the marina and real estate grew. George 111 And now comes George 111. “Young George,” as some call him, is a 1969 business school graduate at South Bend, Indiana university campus. He returned to the marina and is now a full partner there. The trio boasts of a “full service” marina, with a boat service, summer cottages for rent, or if you’re interested in the purchase of a summer property, they can also help you. They have a lakefront trailer park and

picnic grounds for their customers. They also own the Tippy Dance Hall. It’s fascinating to listen to George I recall the early days on Lake Tippecanoe. He remembers, for example, of having the first outboard motor on the lake. An interest in Lake Tippecanoe certainly runs in the George Paton family, and it would appear not to diminish in the years ahead. Mir ; PETERSEN KALE ISLAND BAIT HOUSE
