OBITUARIES
Mrs. Myrtle Miller A Syracuse woman, Mrs. Myrtle Miller, 85, r 3, died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, June 15, in Goshen hospital. Death was attributed to complications from a broken hip she sustained in March. Mrs. Miller was born August 20, 1887 in LaGrange county to William Frank and Eva (Inbody) McKibbin. She was married in Goshen, October 14, 1903, to Sylvester Miller, who preceded her in death November 15, 1967. Surviving are one son, Hubert Miller of Syracuse; one sister, Mrs. Stanley (Kathleen) Stage of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one nephew, Roy Russell of Pierceton. An infant daughter preceded her in death. Services were held Tuesday, June 19, in Syracuse with Rev. Jack Farrell officiating. Burial was in Oakridge cemetery in Goshen. Mrs. Anna E. Bishop Mrs. Anna E. Bishop, 87, Leesburg, passed away Saturday at the Goshen hospital at 2:30 p.m. She had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Bishop was born at Oswego on August 11, 1885. She was united in marriage to James Everett Bishop on August 23,1903 and he preceded her in death on November 13, 1963. She was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist church. Survivors include one son, Robert of r 2 Leesburg; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Marjorie) Stuckey of South Bend, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Longfellow of Elkhart, Mrs. Dale (Sarah) Mock of r 1 Milford; ,11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. J. C. White officiating. Interment was in the Leesburg cemetery. Lloyd E. Neff Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) in the Reith, Rohrer, Ehret funeral home at New Paris for Lloyd E. Neff, 61, r 3 Nappanee. Mr. Neff died Monday at 5:45 p.m. in the Elkhart hospital where he had been a patient since June 7. He had been in failing health for a number of years. The deceased was the father of Michael Neff of Syracuse.

He was born in the same house in Union township, Elkhart county, that he was living when he became ill, on April 16, 1912. He wasthe son of Alvin and Matie (Fox) Neff. Neff was married to LaVon Holtzinger on December 6, 1930. He was a farmer and worked in the trailer industry in Syracuse. Surviving with the widow and Syracuse son are another son, Richard of r 3 Nappanee; and three grandchildren. Triplet daughters died in infancy. Rev. E. Paul Weaver, pastor of the Union Center Church of the Brethren, will officiate at the services and burial will be in the Union Center cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. today (Wednesday). Floyd Cretcher Floyd E. Cretcher, 73, r 2 Bourbon, passed away Monday at 9:30 p.m. at the Warsaw nursing home. He had been in failing health for the past three years. Mr. Cretcher was married in 1920 at Milford to the former Blanche Long. Mr. Cretcher was born on August 3, 1899 to Benjamin and Fanny (Puntenney) Cretcher at Inwood and on October 22,1920 he was united in marriage to Blanche Long. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1952. He was a retired farmer, was a member of the Summit Chapel Methodist church and had lived most of his life in the Bourbon community. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Donna) Metheny, r 2 Bourbon; three sons, Nilas, r 2 Bourbon, Benjamin, Bourbon, and Norman, Tucson, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs,. Lawrence Prescott of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thnrsday at the Deaton funeral home with interment in the Summit Chapel cemetery. at seven and one-fourth pounds and was 20 inches long when she was born around 9 a.m. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Fisher of Syracuse and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Neff of Goshen. Maternal great-grandfather is Guy Fisher of Milford. Nicole Ann was welcomed home by one brother, Rick, 16. LUNDY, Kevin Jene Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Lundy of r 1 Leesburg are the parents of a son, Kevin Jene, born Tuesday, June 12, at 7:21 p.m. at Goshen hospital. Kevin weighs nine pounds, one and a half ounces and is 21 inches long. He has two sisters, Kim, six and Kelly, four. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Louis Firestone of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel R. Lundy of North Webster are the paternal grandparents. The only surviving great-grandparent is Mr. Lundy’s grandfather, Palmer Hannum of Switz City. HOCHSTETLER daughter Mr. and Mes. Rudy L. Hochstetler of r 2 Milford are the parents of a daughter born Wednesday, June 13, at the Goshen hospital. DOSS, Diana and Darreir Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Doss of Milfbrd are the parents of twins born Saturday, June 9, at the Goshen hospital. Diana was bom at 7:36 p.m. and tipped the scales at five pounds, 13 and three-fourths ounces and was 1914 inches long. Darrell was bom at 7:44 p.m. and tipped the scales at six pounds and was 19V« inches long. They were welcomed home by one sister, Tina, three and (me brother, Raymond, two. The 19 inch, six pound, six ounce, girl was born at Whitley County hospital. Mrs. Robert Williams of North Webster is the child’s maternal grandmother. Whitley County hospital, Columbia City, early last week. Cleo Hilton of Leesburg was dismissed from the Whitley County hospital early last week. Mrs. Dean Anderson and daughter of North Webster were dismissed from the Columbia City hospital over the week end. Mrs. Elmer Rassi of r 1 Leesburg left June 10 for her monthly treatments at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn. She is still at the clinic and at the present time it is not known when she will be returning home. Harry Good of Milford was admitted to the Goshen hospital Saturday morning after suffering a light stroke. He remains a patient at the hospital in room 244 and he is improving. James Reeves, 330 Harrison court, reported finding holes in the siding of his house, apparently caused by a BB gun. Milford girls in Cinderettes Three Milford girls are participating in the Pierceton Cinderettes girls track team this summer. They are Roxanna Auer and Joanna and Lorene Spearman. Roxanna is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Auer of r 1 Milford and the Spearman girls are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spearman of Dewart Lake. They recently competed at Northfield where Lorene placed first in the 100 yard dash over 30 other girls between the ages of 12 and 14. She was second in the 220. The team’s 440 relay team placed second in the competition. Lorene and Roxanna will be competing at the Carmel Invitational on Saturday and all three will be at the state meet to be held at Lawrenceburg high school in Indianapolis. 1973 Dairy Council announces 4-H contest The 1973 Dairy Council 4-H foods contest for 4-H club boys and girls has been announced by the Dairy Council of Northern Indiana, Inc. Each food project member has an opportunity to win a club prize for an outstanding food exhibit. 4-H members in 15 northern Indiana counties are participating in the contest including Kosciusko county. The purposes of the contest are to promote better food habits through the use of the four basic food groups in preparing balanced meals; stimulate interest in preparation of foods which add to better family living; and promote better nutrition. Junior division members in each local club with at least 10 contest participants exhibit a baked custard, recipe and meal menu. Each club contest winner will receive a prize of a gift box of baking equipment including measuring cups and spoons, cake pan, scraper and wooden spoon. Senior division members in a club contest with at least five participants exhibit a baked product using a minimum of two dairy products, the recipe and a' day’s menu including the product. Senior club winners receive a popular authoritative basic cookbook. Cash awards will be presented to the outstanding junior and senior division champions in the county. The foods contest was developed to complement the total 4-H foods program as an educational activity. Prizes will be provided by the Dairy Council of Northern Indiana, Inc. as part of their continuing nutrition education program in 26 counties. The awards will be made at the time and place and in accordance with the county 4-H program schedule for all other awards. For details contact the cooperative extension service county youth agent. Distinguished students named at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE - Distinguished student rank was achieved by 3,382 students at Purdue university during the second semester. These students represented the top 17.55 per cent of the 19,207 undergraduates on the West Lafayette campus. The list released by registrar Nelson M. Parkhurst included 886 students with straight-A records in their semesters work toward bachelor’s or associate (twoyear) degrees. This number represented slightly more than 4.09 per cent of the undergraduate student body. Out of the total number of distinguished students, 31 were from foreign countries, eleven of whom achieved straight-A averages for the second semester. The Heart of the Lakes Business Association met recently at North Webster. The meeting was conducted by Maurie Howe, president, assisted by Larry Kinsey, vice president. Aims and purposes of the newly formed organization - were discussed.
