Officers installed by Sechrist 65 club

Mrs. Russell Moore was hostess for the June meeting of the Sechrist 65 home economics club last week. Mrs. Larry Teghtmeyer assisted. The song of the month, “Goin’ Home” was read in unison. During the busjD€Ss~‘session, members decided “to attend a play on July 14/and invite their husbands to attend as their guests. / Mrs. Jay Boyer gave the lesson on “Inexpensive meals for company.” She stressed the advisability of cooking from scratch and the food value of less Pythian friendship meeting is held The annual friendship night observed by the local Pythian Sisters weir attended. Local members totaled 12 with 22 guests from Warsaw, Elkhart, Syracuse and Wabash. Faye Crispyn, DDGC of Elkhart, representing district 2 and Alien Millican, DDGC of Wabash representing district 4, were distinguished guests recognized. Mrs. Teghtmeyer then conducted an impressive service for the installation of new officers. Mrs. Jerry Badskey was installed as president, Mrs. Stanley Hamman, vice president and Mrs. Jay Boyer, secretarytreasurer. Refreshments of jello salad, crackers, nuts, iced tea and coffee were served to the eight members present. who were unable to attend because of illness. A social hour following the meeting centered around salad bar refreshments and guests were served iced tea or coffee as preferred. Kiwanis . club notes Ray Finkbiner opened the meeting. Guests were Oliver Will, Huntington, Charlie Hunter, guest of Ted Kolsky and Tom Frost from the Warsaw club. New members inducted were Luther Allen sponsored by Jerry Badskey and Russell Johnson sponsored by George Davis. Lorin Badskey recorded a makeup May 31 at the North Star club, Anchorage, Alaska. Delegates to the State Convention September 13-16 are Jon Roberts, Pat McCarty, Bob Day and alternates are Sherm Bryant, Jerry Badskey and Chris Koher. His subject was “Abortion.” Some of the important points stressed were “Abortion destroys persons, and personality potential. — The development of human life from the fertilized egg to birth, life and death is a gift totally unrelated to human skills or genius. This gift is not ours to accept or tq reject, but to nurture, develop and cherish. — It is opposed to life’s sacredness. All human choices, especially those relating to human life and survival are filled with awesome responsibilities. Only God’s grace and wisdom can help us make intelligent and human decisions.” Sgt. Tom Jacks will present a career film on the Kiwanis sponsored Indiana State Police Camp for the program at the next scheduled meeting. Day camp held at Whispering Pines The Brownies’ day camp held last week at Whispering Pines was well attended with, 63 girls and 14 adult leaders registered. Sessions were held Monday through Friday with an overnight camp-out for the junior group Thursday night. During the week, each unit attended to its own cooking and all worked on pants for earning badges. Brownies were concerned with hiking and stitching badges while the juniors worked on prints and conservation. Girls included in both groups include those in first through sixth grades. Also included in the Thursday night activities was a program given by those in the junior group for their parents and families. Past Chiefs meet with Mrs. Griesinger ’ Mrs. Myrtle Griesinger was hostess for the June meeting of the Past Chiefs club at her home last Wednesday night. Mrs. Iva Krouse, Mrs. C. J. Menzie and Mrs. Verland Bockman received prizes. The hostess served cake and ice cream to the eight members present. June card party success Mrs. Mary Fink, Mrs. Wilbur Rensberger, Mrs. Ermal Vanator and Mrs. Glen Vanator were hostesses for the June card party sponsored by the local Pythian Sisters. They reported nine tables of euchre were enjoyed and that winners were much pleased with prizes of fresh strawberries. Because of the regular monthly card party date falling on a holiday, there will be no card party in July. God's Children preparing birthday calendar : God’s Children are working on a new project, a birthday calendar which is to be issued in September. The calendar will include birthdays and anniversaries and some scheduled events. The group is also engaged in some festival week projects. They will be parking cars. They will operate a drinking machine at the carnival. They are going to enter the talent contest. They plan to build a float and participate in the Mermaid parade. JUNIOR CHOIR HAS PARTY A picnic at Epworth Forest on a beautiful day with games, a scavenger hunt and grand climax of an hour swimming at Wawasee high school was a rare party fa* the 50 youngsters of the junior choir of the United Methodist church. Transportation was provided by Curtis Shock. Mothers who volunteered to help chaperone were Mrs. GletNi Bowen, Mrs. Stu Walker and one of the SWIM girls, Judy Cronkite. NEW GROUP OF ACOLYTES A new group of acolytes joined the United Methodist church June 10. Included are Glen Wilkey, Lori Henderson, Lori Pryor. Kevin Walker, Dan Tracy. Rosilie Keim. SWIM program is launched The North Webster United Methodist church now has a number of young people engaged in the SWIM (Special Worker In Mission) program in North Webster. Jan Ahlstrom is staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shipley, Joyce Trapp is with Rev. and Mrs. John Weeks, Debbie Secrist is with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Grahani, Paula Gaskill is with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Shipley, Judy Cronkite is with Mr. and Mrs. Stu Walker, Andrea Phelps is with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ritchie and Pat Neff will reside with Mrs. Elsie Elsenrath. These girls will be teaching and assisting with church school classes, singing with God’s Children, managing the coffee house, working in study sessions once a week, furnishing music at first service, assisting in the church office and engaging in many other activities. God's Children sing at Gary The United Methodist youth singing group God’s Children, attended the Centennial United Methodist church at Gary recently where they enjoyed a wonderful experience in fellowship. The superintendent of Calumet district was also present. A group from the Gary church attended services at the North Webster church and sang here March 11. At the end of the Gary service everyone joined hands and sang “Let There Be Peace On Earth.” The local group sang at Epworth Forest last Thursday evening and they performed June 9 at the alumni banquet at the North Webster schoolhouse. SEWING CIRCLE BEGINNING A few ladies of the United Methodist church are giving of their time to sew quilts which they plan to give to persons who have had a fire or other emergency or are just in need. They are even considering the possibility of selling their product. Mrs. Virginia Bockman, Mrs. Thelma Barnes, Mrs. Kathryn Coy and Mrs. Charlotte Blacklidge meet every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they will welcome others who wish to participate in this project. COMMUNITY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Earl Grable of Dundee, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Curley Lane of Fort Wayne visited with Mrs. Ermal Vanator last Wednesday. Mrs. Mary Katherine Love and her daughter, Roxanne, spent the week with Mrs. Iva Krouse. Glen Vanator provided a pleasant surprise for his mother, hi§ wife and daughter, Denise and Mrs. Stella Miller of r 1 Cromwell when he took them to the ice cream social at the Cromwell Conservation club Saturday night.

EDWIN CABLE Edwin Cable to Washington, DC and Lafayette Edwin Cable, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cable, r 2 Syracuse, travelled to Washington D. C. last week. He was sponsored by the Kosciusko county REMC for the June 10-16 trip. Cable and 37 other Indiana youths joined over 1,000 youths sponsored by rural electric cooperatives in 30 other states in the all-expense paid tour. Those chosen for this 14th annual trip were selected on the basis of their 4-H achievement records by the state 4-H office and by Indiana statewide REC, Inc., the state service association for Indiana’s REMCs. The young people visited government agencies and most of Washington’s historical landmarks during their six-day stay. They met Indiana’s 13 congressmen for a luncheon and special tour of the Capitol building Tuesday, June 12. On National Rural Youth day, June 13, the youth were the special guests of NRECA (National Rural Electric Cooperative association) and formed a motorcade to the White House for a special visit. Senator Ted Kennedy was the featured speaker during the youth day program. To Lafayette Cable is currently attending the Kiwanis club sponsored state 4-H junior leader conference at Lafayette. Cable, along with Tim Hahn of Nappanee, Ellen Custer of Elkhart and Jenny Warner and Mark Hochstetler of Goshen are being sponsored by the Kiwanis clubs of Elkhart county. The 42d annual conference is being held at the state 4-H leadership center June 19-22. The theme for the 1973 conference is “Pass it on.” Bevon Crafton in accident Bevon G. Crafton, 68, r 3 Syracuse, was involved in a twocar crash near noon Friday, June 15, in the 800 block of East Winona avenue in Warsaw. Gordon Tuttle, 58, r 1 Warsaw, backed his car out of a parking area on the south sjde of East Winona avenue and collided with the Crafton auto. Damage to the Crafton car was set at SIOO. No damages were' listed for the Tuttle vehicle. The accident was investigated by patrolman Doug Brumfield.

auto struck a parked car owned by Charles Helmer, Piqua, Ohio. Both cars were listed as total losses. The parked car Was knocked 69 feet into a ditch on the west side of the road. The impact occurred in front of the Vincent Romeo residence. Syracuse first aid unit took Miss Rogers to the physician’s office. State trooper Larry Clodfelter is investigating the accident. North Webster buildings sold Homer and Vivien Graber of North Webster have sold two uptown North Webster buildings to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Berghorn, it was learned today.
