Warrior golf team third in NLC tournament

Members of the Wawasee high school golf team placed third in the Northern Lakes Conference meet held on Thursday at the Culver Military academy.. The Warriors finished with a score of 332 and received the third place

(Li /I / Ix 3 NEW COACH —Wawasee Prep has chosen Vincent Romeo, Jr., as head football coach for the 1973-74 Lakers* football team. Romeo is an English teacher at the Prep and has spent two years as the Lakers’ defensive coach. Romeo spent his first three years in the New York area, then moved with his family to Elkhart where he remained until 1970. He came to Syracuse with his wife, Linda, and his two children, Lisa, five, and Vincent 111, two, to coach and teach at Prep. Romeo graduated from Campion Jesuit high school in 1965. He received his BA from Notre Dame in 1969 and his MA in British and American literature from Bowling Green in 1971. Aside from his football and teaching duties, Romeo also coaches freshman basketball and is head tennis coach.

The cake, decorated with bats and balls, was served to the Warriors prior to their leaving for Goshen and the sectional baseball tournament last Thursday.

Denny Hepler enters Knights tournament Dolores Moorehouse, “Lady of the Lake,” of the International Palace of Sporits foundation announced today that 17-year-old Denny Hepler, outstanding athlete of Warsaw high school, will compete as Knight of Center Lake for the boys club of Warsaw in the upcoming tournament of knights which will be held Saturday, June 30, at 1 p.m. at the school grounds in North Webster in conjunction with the Lions club’s Mermaid Festival. Recipient of the Elks award in golf and basketball, Denny, six feet, three inches tall and weighing 185 pounds, qualified for all conference, all sectional and all regional in basketball and was low medalist in both the LaPorte and Culver golf invitationals, a fete never accomplished before. Open only to male graduates of accredited high schools who are sponsored by a non-profit educational, religious or civic organization the tourney consists of six events representing baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis and track. The knight achieving the highest overall score will be titled Sir Lancelot du Lac of 1973 and SSOO will be awarded to his sponsor; the second place winner will be titled Sir Galahad of 1973 and S2OO will be awarded the sponsor. The third, fourth and fifth place winners will be titled Knights of Camelot, life members of King Arthur’s Court, and SIOO will be awarded to each sponsor. Tippecanoe Ladies play is throw out The play last Thursday for the ladies of the Tippecanoe Lake Country club was “throw out four worst holes.” The 18 hole play saw the following results: • Class A — Margaret Lancaster, first; Gloria Maish and Beth Flynn, tie for second; Ester Brewster, third ; Helen Freeman, low putts. Dewart Lake ski club activated Members of the Dewart Lake Ski club held their organizational meeting on Memorial day at the lake pavilion. The officers elected to serve are as follows: President — Kim Slocum Vice president — Harley Chalk Secretary-treasurer — Barbara Miller Board of directors — Don Bucher, Clyde Rector and Mike Sparks The club is offering beginners a chance to learn to ski starting on June 9 at 9 a.m. The club’s first show will be held on Father’s Day, June 17. The show will be at 2 p.m. The second show of the season will be at 2 p.m. on July 4. The second annual Indiana State show and tournament will be held at Dewart Lake on August 11. It will be an all-day meet. Scramble winners listed for Friday at Maxwelton club Winners for the Friday night scramble at the Maxweltoh golf club have been announced by pro Bob Auer. Warriors bring first sectional title home

The Wawasee Warrior baseball team brought their first sectional title home last Friday afternoon after defeating the Triton Trojans 1-0. They now advance to the regional tournament which will be played at Kennedy Park in South Bend on Saturday, June 9. The Warriors will take a 15-4 record into the regiorial. The game was a brilliant pitching duel with Dwight Dean, Bill Fawley and Mark Smith on the mound for the Warriors and Jim Fuzy and Greg Scott working for the Trojans. Wawasee’s one run was a homer by sophomore Mark Smith. He slammed the ball 380 feet at the beginning of the fifth inning for one of the longest hits

Wawasee second in Oak Hills sectional

Wawasee high school placed second with 334 in the golf sectional held at Oak Hills near Elkhart on Tuesday. A total of 19 schools, including all of the Northern Lakes Conference teams, Elkhart, Mishawaka and Goshen took part. Elkhart Central was the tournament winner with 321 points. Goshen and Plymouth tied for third with 335 with Goshen taking third place with the score of the fifth man. Warasw was fifth with 336.
