Wawasee golfers place second in Central Noble invitational

Members of the Wawasee golf team Continued their winning ways last Saturday as they placed second in the Central Noble invitational. A total of 18 teams participated. The Warriors also added two victories to their record last week as they stopped Wawasee Prep and West Noble. Winning the invitational Saturday was CarrolHrigh school with 323 points. The Warriors were close behind with 326 points. The match was held at the Augusta Hills golf Course near Albion. V' \ Low medalist for the day was Jim McCrady who hit an even par 72. McCrady is from Carroll. Greg Ummel was second with 77. Both received individual trophies. Prep last Wednesday was played on the Wawasee golf course with the Warriors scoring a 161-188 victory. The B-team won 178-210. Members of the A-team and their individual scores are Greg Ummel 38, Bob Bauman 39, Mark Randall 41, Ron Bauman 43 and John Owens 44. Members of the Wawasee Prep A-team and their individual scores are Brad Vite 39, Mike Wilger and Jim Bruneman 49 each, Hal Battes 51 and Paul Derrick 52. Leading the Wawasee B-team was Phil Randall with 42. Steve Spretnjak led the Prep team with 48. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Warriors. Hoss Hills Bowmen hold coon shoot

Hoss Hills Bowmen, Inc., held a coon shoot and colored animal round on April 28-29. Three Rivers bowhunters from the Fort Wayne area were guests of the club for the coon shoot. Forty points were possible at the coon shoot and men’s A class, bare bow, first place was won by Jerry Taylor with a score of 21. Second place was won by John Kress with a score of 18. Jack Hallaert took third place with a score of 16. Jerry Crim also scored 16 points but was defeated in a shoot-off. Men’s B class, bare bow, first place was won by Pat Carter with 14 points following a shoot-off which resulted in Mike Adams winning second place with his 14 point total. Louis Morts won third place with 13. Men’s A class, sights, first place was captured by Ron Harris with 30 points. A three way tie resulted in Bob Wolfe placing second and Bob Wiggs placing thind. Steve Secrist made the third man involved in the tie with 28 points but was defeated in the shoot-off. Men’s B class, sights, first place was won by Keith Enyeart with 20 points. Paul Schoeff placed second with a score of 18 following a tie with Rex Hathaway who placed third. Rita Harris won women’s A class first place with 20 points. Second place was won by Judy Harris with 16 points. Women’s B class first place was won by Sue Ann Ray with six points. Greg Smith led the young Warriors with a 49. Bob Bauman led the A-team with 36. This tied the school record held by Gary Firestone, John Hulley and Dal Ummel. To earn his 36 Bauman birdied three of the last four holes. Greg Ummel was three off with 39, Jon Owens hit 41 and Mark Randall and Ron Bauman each scored 44. Jami Lung led West Noble with 40, Dave Vanette and Mark Hagen each scored 42, Larry Muzzy hit for 43 and Scott Kaye scored 48. Sam Ludwig led the B-team with 40 while West Noble was led by Kelly Stevens and Brian Shell with 45 each.

Jim Lang led the Northfield team with 42. He was followed by Dave Trump with 44, Mike Knoblock with 52, Ron Tucker k and 47 and Steve Bechtel with 57. Wawasee’s Steve Coverstone led all golfers with 39. Steve Gagnon was low for the Northfield B-team with 53. The Warriors have a 7-5 record while their conference record stands at 2-3. The B-team’s record is 9-2. Monday will see the Wawasee teams playing host to Rochester in a Northern Lakes Conference match.

Maxwelton ladies hold first outing Approximately 45 women attended the opening brunch and first ladies day play of the Maxwelton Ladies Day Golfing association last Wednesday. Play of the day was a scramble with both nine and 18-hole players uniting in play. First place was a two-way tie of the following teams: Helen Hagen, Edie Little and Joan Stoelting; and Dot Stiver, Barbara Kay and Joan Owens. Play for next week will start at 8:30 for the 18-hole players and 9:30 for the nine hole players. Warsaw stops Wawasee In a match played Monday night in the rain at Rozella Ford golf course in Warsaw the Tigers stopped the Wawasee golf team’s winning streak 154-164. The Bteam, however, defeated the host Warsaw team 177-182. The freshman match was not played because of the weather. Greg Ummel and Mark Randall hit for 40 each while Ron and Bob Bauman each scored 42 points. Jon Owens followed with 48. Warsaw’s Dave Kissell was low medalist with 36. Ted Pennick and Bruce Miller each hit for 39 wtyle Denny Hepler hit 40 and Lance Clay hit 44. The Warrior B team was led by Sam Ludwig with 41. Warsaw’s Mike Reed hit 43. Syracuse track teams victorious Syracuse junior high’s seventh and eighth grade track teams were victorious in meets at West Noble last Thursday. Ken Patton led the Jacket seventh graders with wins in the long jump, high jump, and 220 and also ran on a winning relay team. Syracuse won all but two events to defeat West Noble 84-24. The Jacket eighth grade team also swept. eleven of thirteen events to win 76-33. Rick Bauman led the eighth graders with wins in the long jump, low hurdles, 60 yard dash and a relay. The next meet for Syracuse will be the Lakeland corporation track meet with Milford and North Webster at 4 p.m. this Friday on the Wawasee high school track. Results of the Bth grade meet.
