Professional Women’s club. Mrs. Hilah Mathew and Mrs. John Golden, members of the community development committee, were in charge of the program. The business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Roy Chatfield. Reports were given on the rummage sale and the senior girls’ tea. Mrs. Herman Lung was die winner of the Easter bonnet contest and also the centerpiece. Election of officers will be held at the next meeting on May 17. Ligonier residents at OES session Indiana Grand chapter of Eastern Star met in Indianapolis
April 23, 24 and 25. Attending from Ligonier chapter 325 were worthy matron Mrs. Floyd Warren, Mrs. Morris Garber, Mrs. James Kalb and Dale Sperry. Noble County girl scouts to ready camp Girl scouts of Noble county and their dads will spend Saturday, April 28, at Camp Singing Hills near Bristol. The girls are responsible this year for tentpitching in preparation for the coming camping season. Dads under the direction of Carl Flint, will be doing the heavy work. The girl scouts will take care of knot-tying and the lighter work. In payment for their work the dads will be treated to a supper prepared by their daughters. The girls and their leaders are also responsible for the cleaning of Kocnecny lodge at this time. Mrs. Harold Miller and Miss Pat Moore, the leaders of troop 60, are attending from Ligonier. Mrs. George Carter, die leader of troop 165, is attending from Kimmell. Cadette troop 185 of Kimmell is also attending. Several of the troops are planning to spend the night at the camp. FRED SCHAUS Fred Schaus is speaker for banquet Fred Schaus, head basketball coach at Purdue university, has been named as the speaker for the Northeast Corner Conference spring banquet. The banquet will be held at Howe Military Academy on May 10. Schaus has put together a winner in his first season with the Purdue Boilermakers and may get a bid for a berth in the NIT. The all-conference banquet is an annual affair to honor the NECC all-conference players in baseball, basketball, football, golf, cross country and track. The all-sports trophy is presented to the school with the most conference wins in the six sports. Marv Sponhauer of West Noble, NECC president, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Northeast Corner Conference schools participating are Westview, Central Noble, Hamilton, Fremont, Howe Military, Prairie Heights and West Noble. Camping trip for United Methodist youth May 4-6 Senior high youth of the Ligonier United Methodist church are planning a week end camping trip May 4-6 at Barton Lake. The youth will leave the Ligonier church at 4 p.m. Friday and return on Sunday afternoon. Anyone wishing to participate may contact Rev. Charles Elam or Miss Tonya Moore.

Fairfield honor students Fairfield school officials have announced the honor students for the 1973 graduating class. They are Stan Kesler, valedictorian and Karen Whirledge, salutatorian. Stan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben E. Kesler of r 4 Goshen, is very active in music activities. He also received the typing award in 1972. He will major in Christian Education and music when he enters the Fort Wayne Bible college this fall. Karen has been active in a variety of extra-curricular activities. She received the DAR Good Citizen award this year. Karen plans to attend Indiana University at Bloomington this fall and major in journalism. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Whirledge of r 1 Millersburg. Add program to summer program West Noble Area Jaycees have added a new project to their already busy schedule. They recently found out that there are no national funds available for the mentally retarded summer program. To many attending the Noble County Training center in Albion, the summer months are very important. With the help of civic groups in the area, it is hoped that they can continue through June, July and August. The Jaycees are sponsoring a Jonah style fish fry on Saturday, April 28, in the West Noble high school cafeteria. All proceeds will go to this worthy project. Mrs. Branham entertains for Chatterbells Twelve members and five guests attended the Chatterbelles Extension Homemakers club meeting Tuesday night, April 17. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Jerry Branham with Mrs. Gene Staton as cohostess. Roll call was answered by naming a favorite Easter tradition. Mrs. Tom Fisel read as her devotions a letter entitled “1513 AD.” The song of the month was “Easter Parade.” During the business meeting members voted to donate to the Noble county cancer fund. The project lesson on “zoning and planning” was given by Mrs. Branham. An article on gardening was read by Mrs. Richard Bechtold. Healthful first aid hints were given by Mrs. Gary Pelerson. Mrs. Ron Pyle and Mrs. Edward Sprague were guests of the club. They gave a very interesting program on home decorating. The next meeting will be on May 15 at that time mothers will be guests. There will also be a bakeless bake sale. Mrs. Keith Miller heads study club The Ligonier Study club held election of officers at their meeting Wednesday afternoon. The meeting was at the home of Mrs. Charles Elam with Mrs. Helen Chaffee as co-hostess. Officers elected were: Mrs. Keith Miller — president Mrs. Tom Wigent — vice president Mrs. Floyd Warren — secretary Mrs. Fred Stahly — treasurer Following the business meeting members enjoyed a “show and tell” program. Each person presented an antique, piece of needle work or memorabilia, with an interesting discussion.

o ONE YEAR AGO Joseph Judkins has resigned as band director at Wawasee at the end of the current school year. A spokesman announced this week that The Weatherhead Company and Merit Plastics, Inc., had reached an agreement in principle under which Merit would merge into a newly formed subsidiary of Weatherhead for an undisclosed amount of Weatherhead common stock. Retired Marine Colonel Joseph A. Gray is chairman of this year’s county cancer fund drive. Services were held Tuesday for Rick McClure, 37, a victim of an auto mishap on April 7. Two Syracuse drivers, John Martin, 58, and Eugene Clifford Frederick, 22, were uninjured in an early morning accident Tuesday at the blinker light intersection of US 6 and Indiana 13 several miles north of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Myers of Syracuse celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 19. The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Miss Sheryl Raye Butler and Daniel Fuller has been announced with a summer wedding planned. FIVE YEARS AGO Members of the Syracuse Lions club honored athletes of Syracuse high school Wednesday night at a banquet. The Syracuse Quality Printers building at 102 South Huntington street has taken on a new Williamsburg look. Syracuse basketball coach Kenneth D. Workman was resigned his position. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Karesh are the parents of an eight pound, seven and one-half ounce daughter, Joy Lynn. Mr. and Mrs. David Spray are the parents of their first child, a seven pound, one ounce daughter, Jane Ann. Forty-two year-old Charles L. Strey is a candidate for nomination of joint senator on the Republican ticket. Mr. and Mrs. E. Y.
