Enthusiasm grows for bike ride Marvin Noser, chairman of the Ride A Bike For The Retarded Day, reports that enthusiasm in the area is growing daily. The goal of 150 riders has already been reached. He now hopes to have as many as 200 riders participating. The 16-mile bicycling event is scheduled for Sunday, April 29. Starting point will be in Wawaka at 2 p.m. and the finish line will be in Cromwell. Dr. Donald Hooker of Ligonier is serving as honorary chairman. Weber of Albion to survey several properties owned by the city. Both the city dump area and the former Ronald Knight property are to be fenced in as soon as they are surveyed. Mayor Grover Patrick announced that $7,669 in federal sharing monies had been received. The amount is for the first installment of 1973. The Hipskind company of Fort Wayne has agreed to make necessary repairs on Morton street. Considerable damage was done by them when a water-line was accidentally struck during street work. The board announced a meeting with representatives of the Cole association of South Bend on April 23. At that time there will be a study of comprehensive planning for recreation and parks in the city. They also announced the opening of bids for street work and remodeling of city hall would be April 30.
County art association makes plans The Noble County Art association met Thursday night to make plans for several coming events. The meeting was held in the court house at Albion. The group voted to sponsor an art show this summer with exhibitors limited to residents of Noble county. The- May 10 meeting of the NCAA will be open to the public. At that time a very talented artist, Willie Welch of Fort Wayne, will demonstrate his use of pastels. Welch is the winner of many art shows including the NCAA “best of show” in 1972. Holsinger re-elected Lions president Steve Holsinger was re-elected president of the Ligonier Lions club at their meeting Wednesday night. Other officers elected are: Charles Savchuck — first vice president Robert Freisner — second vice president Byron Speicher — third vice president Max Coy — secretary Kenneth Barnum — tail twister Ford Franks — Lion tamer Elected to the board of directors were Dr. Donald Hooker and Evan Mattox. Good Samaritan meeting held Member of the Good Samaritan Circle of the Ligonier United Methodist church worked on their project for the Wolf Lake nursing home Monday night. Following their business meeting in the social rooms of the church the ladies cut feeding bibs for the home. Sixteen members and one guest attended. Hostesses were Mrs. Forrest Slabaugh, Mrs. John Todd and Mrs. Charles Elam. lota Epsilon to check bikes lota Epsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority made plans for its participation in “Ride a bike day,” at its April meeting. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Bill Landon in Wawaka. The sorority will be in charge of
the check points during the bicycle event. Riders must stop at these points to have their mileage checked. A cultural “Sculpture and art” was given by Mrs. Robert Wechter and Mrs. Ken Leatherman. Each member brought a piece of art, sculpture a* music jvhich they have personally enjoyed. Members of Beta Sigma Phi took a group from the Noble County Training center in Albion to Fort Wayne. They enjoyed an eat-out and went to,see “Disney on Parade.” Ligonier board discusses city's revenue sharing The Ligonier Industrial board met Thursday lat noon and discussed a number of ideas. Among them was the use of revenue sharing funds which are being received by the town. The beautification of city parks was also discussed. A meeting of the Indiana Area Development council was announced. It will be held at the Holiday Inn at Elkhart on Friday, May 18. Invitations have been issued to bankers, mayors, industrial realtors, city and county planning commissions and other interested parties in industrial development. The board will be sending representatives. Jolly Spartans hold trash pick-up Saturday Jolly Spartans 4-H club members made plans for a trash pick-up during their meeting Monday, April 9, in the Cromwell cafetorium. The group, under the direction of their leader Lloyd Ness, picked up trash in the area on Saturday. Devotions were read by Kay Frye. Kim Kreager talked on “Kite flying” and Phyl Lynch spoke on “Bicycling.” A demonstration on the proper grooming of a goat was given by Sheldon Wolf. Rex Addis also gave a talk about the transplanting of plants. Members voted to give a donation to IF YE (International Foreign Youth Exchange). The next meeting will be on April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cromwell cafetorium. Easter at Salem church The Salem Community church, located south of Wilmot near road
5, has announced the following special Easter services. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a chalk talk by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Knapp of r 1 Cromwell. The Melody Five from Goshen will provide the music for the 7 p.m. service. United Methodist Women hear about 'lndia' and 'Noah' Mrs. Hilah Mathew gave a program on missionary work in India, at the United Methodist general circle meeting Tuesday night, April 10. Mrs. Ruth Hayes read very interesting devotions on the life of Noah. During the business meeting a report on the recent rummage sale was given. Members were more than pleased with the results. The group voted to purchase lilies to be used in the church on Easter. The plants will later be taken to shut-ins of the church. Plans were made and committees appointed for a motherdaughter supper on May 8. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the church social rooms. Mrs. Katie Lambright Funeral services will be held in Wawasee Lakeside chapel today (Wednesday) at 1:30 p.m. for Katie J. Lambright, 44. Mrs. Lambright, of 303 Pontiac street, Ligonier, died in Goshen hospital Monday at 3 a.m. Her death was caused by injuries received in an automobile accident Friday on US 20, west of LaGrange. Mrs. Lambright was born in Elkhart county on May 8, 1928. She had resided in Ligonier for four years. She was married on December 8, 1948 to Ervin Lambright, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, William LaVern and Glenn Joe, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Joe Leamon, r 2 Ligonier; two grandchildren; and the father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs Joseph Miller, Sr., of Shipshewana; five brothers; and two sisters. Rev. Harlen Steffen will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Thomas cemetery in Elkhart county. West Noble Area Jaycees set egg hunt Members of the West Noble Area Jaycees will sponsor an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April 21, at 1 p.m. in the Ligonier City park. All youngsters — toddlers thru 12 — are welcome. L * Church of God welcomes the Hibschman family A welcome home open house was held last Sunday at the Hex Grange northeast of Syracuse in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James Hibschman and son John. The Hibschman family returned home April 6 for a one year furlough after serving as missionaries for the past four years at Mindano in the Philippines. Approximately 85 persons attended the event which was sponsored by the WCSC of the Church of God at Syracuse. Mrs. Louis Firestone gave devotions and Rev. Victor Yeager, grandfather of Mr. Hibschman, led in prayer. The Hibschmans sang a novelty song entitled, “I’m No Kin to the Monkey.” They further explained that the expression “you act like a monkey” is an insult to the Philippine people. A question and answer period was held on experiences of the honored guests on the mission field. Serving of refreshments concluded the evening activities. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Seiffert of Syracuse have returned from wintering in Florida. The Eugene Hennings of Syracuse spent the first week in April with the Seifferts at Florida.

Dallas Cowboys sign Bill Pipp
The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League have signed Bill Pipp to a three-year contract as a free agent. Pipp is a 1969 graduate of Wawasee high school and is a senior at Indiana university at Bloomington. He is a three-year letterman at IU, starting defensive end for the past two years. He was a walk-on at IU, later gaining a full athletic scholarship. Pipp will move to Dallas to begin conditioning on May 14. The Dallas camp will open in Los Angeles in July.
