West Noble Future Homemakers of America has planned a number of events to help celebrate national FHA week. The club members wdre red to school on Monday. Each chapter develops projects to enrich the lives of many people; 1116 West Noble chapter has carried out a variety of activities this year. Among these were the making of clothing for the Allen county children’s home, FFAFHA skating party and a familynight pot-luck. Members are already working on ideas for next year to help in the home and community. They want to share with others what they gain.

12 lettermen on the West Noble track team

There are 12 lettermen and two men who had lettered as sophomores returning to the West Noble track team this year according to a news release from coaches Glen Hicks and Ric Sc ha ek al. Seniors Joe Reynolds and Mike Kuhn will be co-captains of the team. Joe is the defending conference champion in the pole vault and will be helping in the high jump. Mike will specialize in the low hurdles and sprints. Brian Wheeler will participate in the hurdles and sprints. Chuck Shull will step in and out for the 440. Gangwer, Gerke, Atz, Slowoski and Mike Schlemmer will carry the load in the distance events along with Stahly who lettered as a sophomore. 'Sex Education of Children' Agape program The Agape club held its March meeting in the home of Mrs. Dan Johnston at Ligonier with 13 members and one guest present. The evening began with the lesson. The guest speaker, Dr. F. X. Colligan talked on “Sex Education of Children.” It was a very informative and educational lesson for the mothers of small children. Dr. Colligan closed with a question and answer period. President Mrs. Doug Waldman then called the meeting to order. Roll call, secretary and treasurer’s reports followed. Mrs. Joe Wiley reported on the Newcomers tea to be held April 25. Work committees were set up for this project. The club discussed the work they have been doing with the

Chatterbelles hold meeting Chatterbelles Extension Homemakers club held a special business meeting Wednesday night at the Ligonier Presbyterian church. The meeting had been cancelled earlier in the month in favor of a social meeting. The meeting was called to order by the president Mrs. Richard Bechtold. Mrs. John

Siegel gave the “Thought of the month”. Mrs. Gary Peterson read an article concerning controversy on microwave ovens. Mrs. Bechtold reported on a recent meeting of the Noble county council which she had attended at Albion. She also announced a number of coming events. The May Day banquet of the county will be held May 1 at Saint Mary’s school, Avilla. Members made plans for a bake sale to be held later in the month. The April meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Jerry Cunningham instead of the home of Mrs. Wayne Moore as formerly planned. Workshop planned for arts The Arts and Crafts committee of Noble county has announced its plans fa* a workshop. It is to be held April 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Asbury Methodist church in Albion. Crafts that will be taught are making bread dough, broomstick crochet, Easter creations, hairpin lace and wall hangings. There will also be a demonstration on picture framing. A very interesting day is planned and all members of Noble county clubs are welcome. Women's Guild meets at church Wednesday Members of the Women’s Guild of the Zion United Church of Christ met Wednesday evening in the church social rooms with 21 women present. Sandra Stroup gave the opening devotions and Teresa Gross read a poem, “Opportunity.” The two ladies also sang a duet. Mrs. Mark Pfiester was elected {resident for the coming year and Mrs. Richard Gross was elected secretary. The program was given by Mrs. Gross and Mrs. Charles Rink on “Following Christ.” They gave guidelines of love, joy, peace, faith, courage and selfcontrol. Refreshments were served in the Saint Patrick’s Day theme. Spring concert Tuesday at West Noble The West Noble junior-senior high school annual spring concert will be presented Tuesday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Participating in the concert will be the junior high and band under the direction of Gary Rhoads, the senior high band and choir, both under the direction of Raymond Cole. Band tags will be available for purchse at the door and will also be on sale during the week. The money will help purchase new junior high band outfits. Hie public is cordially invited to attend this concert. Gas bid accepted The Ligonier city council opened gasoline bids at it’s regular meeting Monday night. Bates Oil company of Kendallville was the sucessful bidder at 26.5 cents per gal. Kenneth Barnum, Ligonier realtor, appeared before the board to make inquiries on sewage and water connections fa* four houses he is constructing on Miller street. The board hired John Burns to work as a regular patrolman with the police department. Board members also studied estimates on remodeling and a possible addition on a building to house the police department. Jack LeCount and Stacy Archer were appointed to make further investigation and study plans. They will report to the board in the near future.

American party organized in Noble county The American party of Indiana was organized in Noble county Tuesday night, March 27. A group of interested people met at the courthouse in Albion for this organizational meeting. The meeting was opened with the pledge to the American flag, followed by prayer by Robert Byer of Kimmell. The lack of support fa* the US constitution by the Indiana representation in Washington was discussed. A representative of the American party of Indiana, Mr: Dennis Troutman, presented the American party’s program. She also discussed the failures of other independent parties. Mrs. Troutman of Kewanna is state secretary of the party. The American party of Indiana is guided by state chairman Dr. W. Orville Mayfield of New Albany. The party is organized in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. A state convention was held at Indianapolis March 30 and 31. State convention speakers were Dr. Stuart Crane, professor of economics, Bob Jones university; Nord Davis, author and lecturer, New Hampshire; Bill Shepler, American party executive director and Tom Anderson, veteran American editor and nationally known Christian leader, the new chairman of the National American party. Officers for Noble county representation in the party were dected. Robert Byer, Kimmell, will serve as chairman; Mrs. Ethan Stangland, vicechairman; Dave Black, Albion, secretary; and Gerald Lung, Ligonier, treasurer. Any person interested in learning more about the American party of Indiana may contact any of the county officers. 'Escalade' on sale April 9-13 Hie Escalade, 1973 West Noble year book, will be on sale April 9 through 13. Orders will be taken at the high school ticket booth only. Adults are asked to place their orders between 11 a.m. and 12:21 p.m. If this time is not convenient contact the guidance office at the high school. (Adults oily) Students at the high school are to submit their orders at the ticket booth during their lunch mods. There are still a few 1972 yearbooks available at the school. West Noble band receives high rating Ray Cole, music director at West Noble high school is proud of his students who received high ratings at the Class E band and choir contest Saturday at Winamac. It is quite an achievement to place high in the state contest. There are six classes with schools classified according to high school enrollment. Both the band and choir earned a plaque to add to their collection. Eighty-four students, their director and four chaperones attended the contest. 'Wheels' program for Father-Son banquet Wednesday The father and son banquet of the Ligonier United Methodist church last Wednesday night was attended by over 60 persosns. The guest speaker was Rev. Reginald Alfred assistant pastor of Simpson church, Elkhart. His talk entitled “Wheels” told of his trip with a group of bicycle riders from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean. The supper was served by the Good Samaritan circle of the church.

The Mouse that Roared' to be West Noble production

The West Noble high school drama club has chosen “The Mouse that Roared” for their spring presentation. Tryouts are now being held for the two-act comedy. Peter Sellers was starred in the movie presentation by the same name. The meeting was opened by Mark Loveless. Pledges were given by Jan Kreager and Jeff Poyser. Roll call was answered by naming a favorite season. Jackie Ness gave a report on “extensive frost bites.” Songs were led by Jenny Lung. A special work program was planned called “Ifye.” The group is organizing to pick up trash in the area. The next meeting will be April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cromwell school. Historical society sees old-time films Stone’s Trace Historical society showed several old-time films of the Ligonier, Topeka and Cromwell areas at their meeting Monday night. The meeting, held in the community room of the American State Bank, was attended by 41 members and guests. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ott served refreshments. During the business meeting plans were made for the annual spring opening of the old Stone’s tavern. The building is located on SR 5 near the West Noble high school. School needs discussed The West Noble school board met with Ron Fanning, representative of Fanning and Howey architectural firm, during a special session Monday night at the high school. The needs of junior high and elementary schools of the area were discussed. A high school faculty committee also met with the board. They gave a report on a survey of the opinions of 1972 graduates of West Noble high school concerning modular scheduling, early release and independent study. The board also granted permission to Robert Wechter, principal of the junior high department, to attend the middle school-junior high conference at Indianapolis on April 6.
