INDIANA 80 — lowa 64 and on to the NIT. I suppose we’ will be accepting a bid that looks sure to come but it doesn’t look like Minnesota can be caught. The Big Ten Cellar teams have pulled some shockers so go U Northwestern. We were a little flat but looked good this time. To stay ahead of lowa out there for an entire game is tough. Minnesota lost to them. It was the team effort. All did the

job. Now mi to Purdue and they will be high. We Hoosiers rooted for them against Minnesota but Saturday — nope. John Ritter had his best game since he was hurt at Michigan. Buckner is getting in less foul trouble and the guys on the bench are coming thru. Laskowski was great and Abernathy whose name and number confused the announcer is steady and tough. Jim Crews put on a scoring spree —

Shear NW 128 pounds — N. Vanlaningham won with a fall in 2:56, Morganthaler S, McCarty S, E. Vanlaningham S 136 pounds — Stevens S won with a fall in 3:44, Lemberg S, Rensberger NW, Young M 145 pounds — Bauman won the championship with a 10-1 decision, Walker S, Rader M, Rivers M 154 pounds — Stouder S won with a pin in 51 seconds, Coy NW, Stidham NW, Beer M 167 pounds — Barton NW won with a fall in 2:34, Harris NW, Koher NW, Leonard S Heavyweight — Ousley S won with a fall in 2:55, Luttman S, Haines NW, Denny S

for Jim as he got two baskets in a row but his passing and floor play is superb and he is a vital cog. He won’t be scoring champ — ever — but he is dangerous and fine on defense too. Aggressive Steve Green got into foul trouble and tho he played well the subs did so well he did not get much more action. Another season should help him. Two seniors, no juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen doing the chores. Don Noordt and the two nonpredictors open more youngsters so we figure to be there for years to come —plus the recruiting and coaching of Bob Knight. NCAA look out for we are gunning for that. Football tenders are out. 18 is a small number but all go to boys who have committed themselves to us verbally. The small number is a combination of things. The obvious is the late start recruiting but that is not the answer. Corso and his staff was highly selective. They looked at all those Pont had contacted and turned down some that thought they were headed for I.U. and got some we thought we had lost. Mike McCraa says he is going to Illinois but one man is not the entire world. The 18 gives us a good nucleus. There are players who have not committed themselves to anyone. Quinn Buckner did not commit until summer last year.

The resignation is effective at the conclusion of the present school year. Jones said his decision to leave Prep was prompted by philosophical and professional differences. A graduate of Salem, 111., and going on to attend Asbury college and Indiana university, Jones accepted the newly created coaching position in 1970. Starting with a sophomore ladden team, his teams compiled a record of 18 wins and 9 losses in playing many ranked teams and those of lesser attendance. Jones hopes to continue coaching, either as a head coach or assistant. He will continue to serve as director of Prep’s Summer All-Sports camps, a position he hasheld since coming to the Lake Wawasee area. /
