14 YEARS AGO, MARCH 5,1959 The Milford senior class is sponsoring a Jonah club fish fry Saturday, March 14, in the community building. The office of Dr. Floyd Rheinheimer and Dr. Dean R. Bahler in the business block of Milford has remodeling and decorating. The Wednesday Night Bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Howard Haab last week with two tables of bridge. Mrs. Irvin Coy entertained at dinner Sunday evening in honor of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laudeman and son, Max Alan, of Urbana. Mrs. Russell Neff was hostess to her bridge club and one guest Tuesday evening at her apartment. The Boy Scouts of Troop 47 will hold a spring paper drive Saturday, March 7, beginning at 9 a.m. A special birthday dinner was served Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McKibbin and family for Mrs. McKibbin’s mother, Mrs. Callie Tusing, who celebrated her 80th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. John Augsburger were honored for their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Slabaugh. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris are the parents of a daughter, Ginger Kay; Mr. and Mrs. Gale Benner are the parents of a son, Bradford B.; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Grady are the parents of a son, Mike. 24 YEARS AGO, MARCH 3,1949 Everett Price was the winner of the basket of groceries given by Fuller Brothers for the nearest correct guess on the weight of the large wheel of Swiss cheese in their store. Mrs. Leland Greenleaf of Elkhart, girl scout area consultant, Was in Milford all day Monday meeting with the leaders and committees of the Milford Pine Tree group. The Syracuse Yellow jackets went home from Warsaw Saturday night with the sectional crown. They had defeated Atwood, Sidney, Beaver Dam and Warsaw. The Milford Ministerial Association will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the library building. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Baumgartner and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schultz had charge of the pot luck supper and social gathering of the Comrades class at the First Brethren church Sunday evening. Lark Becker of Milford and Ross Osborn of Syracuse were among the 1,000 guests at the 25-dollar-a-plate Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner at Indianapolis Saturday. Mrs. Rassi and Mrs. Ed Rassi spent Thursday with Mrs. Sigmond Sorg and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rassi at Goshen. • Mrs. Charles Bird was given a surprise birthday party Monday evening by her family. Mrs. Bird was bom on February 29 so she actually has a birthday only once every four years. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Nickler of Monon, formerly of Milford, left on an overland trip to California recently. Mrs. Roy Schultz assisted by Miss Tralla Caris entertained the Home Arts club at her home Tuesday afternoon. 30 YEARS AGO, MARCH 4,1943 All girls interested in 4-H club meet at the home of Esther Mathews Tuesday night at 7:30. The annual Red: Cross drive is now starting and will continue through the month of March. Twenty members of the Home Arts club met with Mrs. Harold Myers Tuesday afternoon. Mervin Wagners have moved west of town to the farm recently vacated by the Melvin Esch family. Jack Wolferman has been confined to his home for the past week with the flu. Wednesday evening the Live Wire Sunday school class of the New Salem church was entertained at the home of Bemiece and Eudora Grove. It was a farewell party for Jiggs Kilmer who left Friday for camp. MARCH 2,1933 The Leesburg eighth grade team met the Milford eighth grade team at Milford Thursday night - and were defeated by a score of 24 to 15. The Home Arts club met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Carl Gawthrop for their regular meeting. Owners have been busy in many of the local sugar camps tapping the trees and getting the camp open. . 8 A set of harness valued at $25 was stolen from the barn of Arthur Keefer df near Syracuse last week. Miss Lillian L. Kantner has been appointed Kosciusko county chairman for the state high school Latin contest conducted by the Indiana university extension division. The W.M.S. of the Christian church met Tuesday evening of last week with Mrs. Mary Pinkerton. E. E. McClintic of Syracuse was named road supervisor of Kosciusko county. Several from Milford attended the piano recital given at Syracuse Thursday night by Arnold Beckman’s pupils. Dr. Vem Stockberger has opened his dental parlors over the Milford Drug Co. building. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pinkerton entertained at a dinner on Sunday for Mr." and Mrs. Carl Duncan and the Harry Good family. Syracuse delegation to attend conference A delegation of 40 members of the Syracuse congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses will accompany Ralph D. Gose, presiding minister of the Syracuse congregation, to the semi-annual conference of Jehovah’s Witnesses being held this Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, at the Homestead high school in Fort Wayne. In explaining what bearing this conference has on the local community, Mr. Gose said, “One of the purposes of this assembly is to discuss how the community Bible educational program offered by Jehovah’s Witnesses locally can be improved and expanded. We have a unique program, in that we offer home Bible instruction to all, regardless of religious affiliation. The program costs nothing and takes only one hour a week. hoped that the Fort Wayne meeting will help us expand this community service locally.” The public is invited to attend the discourse to be delivered Sunday, entitled, “Decide Now for Divine Ruiership.” Ruben Cobos, Jr., from the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses, will speak. This talk will be delivered at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Due to this special assembly, no meetings will be held at the Syracuse congregation. BIRTHDAY PARTY HELD WEDNESDAY Mrs. Jane Scheuer and children Bianca, Bret and Belinda of Syracuse entertained Wednesday evening in honor of the birthday anniversary of the former’s mother, Mrs. Georgia Buster. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gilbert, Carole and Cindy, Kenneth Felts and James Gilbert, all of Syracuse. The traditional birthday cake and ice cream were served.
