Warsaw high school varsity basketball coach Dwight (“Ike”) Tailman is in his second year at the helm of the Tiger team. Tallman came to Warsaw from Muncie Central where he led the team to a state tournament championship in 1963. He would like nothing better than to lead his Tigers into that same championship spotlight in 1973. He is pleased with the team’s progress this year. Tallman says the team has come up to the expectations he had before the season began. Denny Hepler, Mark Hanna, Terry Ressler and Rod Wildman are all playing in double figures. Because of the balanced scoring of the team, Tallman said, the

opposition must concentrate on the whole team and not on any one individual. Tailman has four seniors on his team — Greg Herberling, Ressler, Hanna and Hepler — all other team members are juniors. The Tigers are scoring well from the free-throw line with a percentage of 75. This is excellent for high school ball. In addition, the starting five is scoring 45 per cent from the field. Tallman says his Tigers’ overall attitude is excellent and comments on the fact the boys are very dedicated. The team, he said, had to work extremely hard to get where it is this year. When asked to comment on individual Tigers Tailman gave
the following remarks: DENNY HEPLER — “Outstanding this year in both rebounding and scoring. He has given us tremendous leadership as a senior.” ROD WILDMAN — “Rod has given us good scoring balance and has the ability to rebound. He is doing a good job from the team standpoint. He has also been the best defensive player under the basket.” LARRY RICHARDSON — “Larry is young and learning. He is the team’s tallest boy at six feet, four.inches. He will be a fine player after he gains a little more experience. I feel he’ll improve with the team.” DAVE KISSELL — “Dave is a

very aggressive player, very enthusiastic. He does a great job of getting the offense moving.” MARK HANNA — “Mark is excellent as an all around player. He is very heady, thinks well and good heads-up defense. He also shoots well.” TERRY WRESTLER — “Terry’s confidence has improved a great deal this year. He is an excellent shooter and is starting to come into his own.” BLAINE METZGER - “Blaine is a young player with great potential. He has begun to get the confidence needed to play good basketball. He has the ability to move the ball and to get the offense moving. He is also a

good defensive player.” Warsaw has always been a team to watch at tournament time. They have 16 sectional wins on the record chart. Under former coach David R. (“Boag”) Johnson the Tigers won sectional titles in 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1970. The boys from Warsaw will definitely be out for another tournament title. Tallman is assisted by Hugh Ressler, Tom Sittier and Delyn Geiger in coaching his Tigers. Max E. Hobbs is superintendent of the Warsaw schools, Clayton J. Smith is principal of the high school with Chrales Graner as vice principal. Darrell Boling is athletic director.
