holiday tourney but this time the Warriors came out on top and boosted their record to 8-7. Neither team could pull out in front in the Ist quarter and the score was 12-10 at the first stop. In the second stanza the Warriors sticky man to man press, which stole the ball eight times in the first half, helped them take a 2314 lead by the middle of the second quarter and exit at half time with a 31-24 margin. The third quarter saw Wawasee outscore Whitko by one and enjoy a 47-39 lead going into the last period. But Whitko refused to die and began narrowing the margin with a last quarter drive. With 4:30 remaining the Wildcats hit two foul shots to tie it up and 30 seconds later Kevin Kerr hit a bucket to give Whitko a 51-49 advantage. Two foul shots by Hamilton and a field goal by Chamberlin regained Wawasee the lead, but Whitko tied it again 53-53 with 2:20 left. Another pair of free throws, this time by Smith, and a basket by Mike Zurcher, followed by Hamilton’s two foul shots put the Warriors in control 59-53 with 2 minutes

Warriors capture two NIC victories
The Wawasee Warrior wrestlers ended the regular duel meet season on a victorious note and assured themselves of a spot in the top three of the Northern Lakes Conference by stopping the Bremen Lions 34-26 Tuesday night and upending a tough Plymouth Squad 28-26 in Thursday night action. The Warrior wins gave them a 6-5-1 overall record and a 5-2 NLC mark, which earned them a second place tie with conference schools Plymouth and Warsaw. The return of veterans Dan Doll and Joe Melendez coupled ..with the hustling determination of the Warrior squad accounted for the team’s double victories. If Bremen had any hopes of a first Lion victory over the Warriors, they were dashed Tuesday night. Bremen has failed to emerge the victor in any previous Wawasee encounters. Dave Doll once again started the 100 pound action with a pin over Bremen’s Pherrpn at 3:22. Bremen evened the score with a pin over Ron Beer at 2:17 in 107 pound action. Wawasee’s talented Chip Dye recaptured the lead for Wawasee by nailing his opponent in :22 at 114 pound action. Jon Glon held Bremen’s Keiser to a 10-2 decision at 121 pounds by staying off his back. A set back at 179 pounds and a forfeit at 185 put Bremen within striking distance 28-26. Wawasee’s heavyweight Walter Leach moved the Warriors out of range by pinning Koontz of Bremen at 3:03. W a wa see-Ply mouth The Plymouth Pilgrims found Warrior land unconquerable .’Thursday night. The Warriors were ready and waiting in ambush. Four Pilgrims fell prey to Warrior prowess. Wawasee’s Dave Doll, at 100 pounds, decisioned Riley 13-0. Paul Dye, at 107 pounds, nailed his man in 5:03. Chip Dye at 114 decisioned Plymouth’s .Martin 10-3. At 132 pounds Bill Butt battled on even terms before his foe escaped with a 5-4 decision. Joe Melendez was surprised 6-4 by Fehrer of Plymouth. * The Warriors, however, weren’t accepting defeat and fought back. Brad Lemberg, at 157 pounds, won by default over Reed of Plymouth. Bob Bauman battled to a 2-2 draw with Thomas of Plymouth at 167 pounds. Gary Francis, at 179 pounds, was stopped by Plymouth’s Wright 1:01. A Warrior loss at 179 and a forfeit at 185 put the Warriors in “heap big trouble” trailing 26-24. The Warriors had to win the final match, and once again Wawasee’s heavyweight Walter Leach pulled it out of the fire with a 13-1 decision over Sellers of Plymouth. Wawasee Jr. Grapplers finished the season with a fine 102 mark. The Jr. Warriors romped over Bremen’s Cubs 54-12. Scaring wins for the reserves
