Jan Kreager installed as worthy advisor of Rainbow
Installation of officers for Ligonier assembly 74, Rainbow for Girls in Indiana, was held Saturday night at the Masonic temple. Miss Jan Kreager was installed as worthy advisor in the assembly room which was beautifully decorated in her colors of purple and pink. Two stars, representing her symbol, were placed in the east and west. Mrs. Robert Richards sang “I Believe” while Jan was escorted to the altar where she took her vows. The gavel was presented to Jan by Tom Deßrular, chaplain of the Cromwell Masonic lodge. Sue and Nancy Kreager, sisters of the worthy advisor, served as her installing officer and marshall. Sheree Knox was installing chaplain, Connie Warren, installing recorder and Mrs. Glen Click, the installing musician. 5 —L— V z -JU HOMEMAKER OF TOMORROW — Miss Susan Greider has been named West Noble high school’s 1973 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Miss Greider received the highest score on a written knowledge and attitude examination given to senior boys and girls. She will receive an award from General Mills, sponsor of the annual nation-wide contest. Miss Greider is now eligible for state honors and could, if she places in the state, qualify for a national award. Area vocational program discussed at board meeting Dave McGrew, area vocational school teacher, met with the West Noble school board at a special meeting Monday night in the West Noble high school. Members of the West Noble vocational adult advisory committees for the building trades and auto mechanics programs were also present. The area vocation program was discussed and slides were shown of the home now under construction by the West Noble building and trades class and of the area vocational school at Wawasee high school. A committee of faculty members also met with the board to discuss their program and curriculum. Robert Gunn, the new director of student activities, presented a number of procedural changes concerning discipline. The board approved the changes.

GLAYCONSANTOS Brazilian youth visits West Noble Glaycon Santos, 17, left last Tuesday after spending four weeks in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Steller at Kimmell. While in the area Glaycon attended West Noble high school. A resident of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Glaycon is in the United States with a number of his countrymen through the Lions Youth Exchange program. The Cromwell-Kimmell Lions club served as his host club during his stay in Indiana. Glaycon’s family consists of his parents and three sisters. His father is a military man. The Brazilian youth had never seen snow until he came to Indiana. He prefers Brazilian food to American and likes American girls. Glaycon told students at West Noble high school the mode of dress among young people in Brazil is very similar to that of this country. He also said the young people there have about the same amount of freedom. He found the little community of Kimmell quite different from his native city of 1,000,000 people. Helen Golden hospitalized after accident Mrs. Helen Golden, 502 W. Third street, Ligonier, is a patient in McCray hospital, Kendallville, after being injured in a one-car collision Tuesday. State trooper Pat Malone reported Mrs. Golden slid on icy pavement and hit a tree on the north side of US 6 west of Kendallville. e? Mrs. Golden has a laceration to the forehead and possible internal injury. West Noble sixth graders to see circus Members of the sixth grade classes of the West Noble school corporation will mark Saturday, Feb. 3, as a “red letter” day, as it is the day they have been invited to attend the circus at Fort Wayne. Tickets have been furnished by area Shriners with the youngsters to be transported by school buses.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ritter of r 2 Syracuse were honored by their children Sunday in observance of their 25th wedding anniversary. Chet Elder has been elected president of the local Chamber of Commerce with Ev Ganz as vice (resident. A departure service and party was held Sunday for Father James H. Remmerswaal, OSC, at Wawasee Prep, leaving for a five year commitment in Holland, Rome and Indonesia. Observing his 90th birthday anniversary Tuesday at Fountain View Place, Elkhart, was John E. Niccum, father of Mrs. Eloise Frevert. Dorothy (Mrs. Melville) Smith was pleasantly surprised Friday in observance of her 91st birthday anniversary when a close handfull of friends chose to entertain at an open house in her honor and approximately 50 friends called during the course of the day. Among storm damage due to high winds Monday night were plate glass windows at Tom Socks store in the village and the Texaco station. FIVE YEARS AGO Syracuse’s new dog contract signed January 16 was not with the humane society at Warsaw but with Jim Warner of that city. The town of Syracuse has $5,972.52 left in the general fund at the year end. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Popenfoose will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house on February 4. Mrs. Jesse Hann spent the week end at College Corners, Ohio, with the Frederick Hann family. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Rookstool have moved to Greenfield. (Lefty) Martin, owner of the Wawasee Plaza, stated Wednesday he hopes to rebuild the plaza house which was destroyed by fire early Friday morning amounting to $50,000 damage. The 1962 annual report by Syracuse town clerk-treasurer J. Barton Cox shows the town has on deposit at the year end, a total of $142,223.53. Miss Sherry Gay Searfoss is one of 98 Indiana university school of nursing students to be awarded nurses caps in ceremonies this Friday. Mrs. Charles Purdum, Sr., 75, passed away of leukemia on January 20. a ‘ Cold lingers on with 18 below registered this morning. Pvt. Roger Fleischauer is now stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C. TWENTY YEARS AGO Mrs. Elizabeth Pollock and Mrs. Nita Kline were guests of honor at a retirement party Friday evening at the Pickwick Lounge, giveii by fellow telephone company employees. Mrs. Ida Hamman and Miss Lillian were guests at a family dinner Sunday in Goshen. . Turkey Creek township collected $476 this year for tuberculosis seals. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Atz are vacationing in Mexico. Roddy Laughlin of Goshen spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Blair Laughlin. Mrs. Sam Houser entertained with a neighbors get-to-gether dinner this week. FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGjO Syracuse captured the county basketball title over the week end by defeating Leesburg 20-16. A daughter was born Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Merwood Ke tring. Dog owners are requested to keep their dogs at home and all stray dogs will be shot —by order of the Town Board. High school girls have united in forming two fast basketball teams. Team and teachers sold a hundred season tickets for the tourney and many were turned away. A new flag is flying in front of the high school and new swings have been .hung in the school yard. •* Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe LeCount and three children of Cromwell called Monday on Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mock. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Bauer and family and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Rentfrow visited relatives Sunday in Elkhart. Camp Fire group selects name By KELLY MCFALL The January 24 meeting of the camp fire girls was held. Josetta Glon brought the refreshments. Mrs. Bartow opened the meeting with the Camp Fire Law. Debbie Bartow gave the secretary’s report. Plans for the February 28 party were discussed aad invitations were made. / A groiip name was chosen. Our name is Lu Ta Lo La. The name means, to hold on, to trust, and believe in. The next meeting will be February 14. Decorations for the party wifi be made that day. Thursday collision damages one vehicle Approximately $250 in damage was estimated to a 1970 Pontiac being operated by Bettie L. Hare of Milford as she attempted to park near South Huntington and Pearl streets in Syracuse at 1:55 p.m. Thursday Jan. 25. Involved in the mishap was a southbound 1972 Fo|d truck driven by Frederick Allen, 32 of 3825 Maple Grove, Fort Wayne and owned by Menu Meats, Inc., Fort Wayne, who was attempting a right turn onto Pearl. I Syracuse police investigated.
