Mayor Grover Patrick announced the arrival of another federal revalue sharing check at Monday night’s meeting. The amount of the check was $15,122. Mayor Patrick announced his 1973 appointments as follows: City attorney —John C. ITirapp Police chief — Robert Durham - Fire chief — Donald Gillespie Street commissioner — William Flowers Superintendent water works — William Foster Superintendent sewage plant — Bruce Koeneman Building inspector — Maurice Cass. Wayland Spears was reappointed as a member of the water board for a three year term. Hie yearly police report given by chief Robert Durham was as follows: 1198 calls, 441 complaints investigated, 320 arrests, 16 liquor violations, 24 warrents, 517 warnings, 135 accident investigations, 16 break-ins, 66 thefts, 11 shoplifting, 19 vandalism. estimated total cost of $333,650. There were eleven additions totaling $18,000; nine garages, $59,000; one commercial addition to a service station, $18,000; addition to a commercial building, $11,300; one apartment house, $60,000 and one building removed. In other business reports were made on the progress in proceedings to purchase the North Side park and the completion of work on Gerber street by Kreager Brothers. The 1973 street work for the city was also discussed and plans made to begin engineering at an early date. Good Samaritans have meeting The Good Samaritan Circle of the Ligonier United Methodist church met Monday evening, Jan. 8, in the social rooms of the church with 17 members present. Devotions were given by Mrs. William Cochran. A number of plans for the coming year were discussed.
West Noble science fair February 10-11
Hie West Noble science fair will be held on February 10 and 11. Each elementary building will be having an individual science fair to determine room and grade winners for participation in the corporation fair in February. The judging will take place at West Noble high school on February 10. On February 11 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. open house will be held. An awards program will begin at 3:35 p.m. The regional science fair will be at Tri-State college in Angola on March 16, 17 and 18. The elementary division, grades one-six, will exhibit on the gym deck of the high school. Grades one, two and three will be judged at 9 a.m. Grades four, five and six will be judged starting at 9:45 a.m. The junior division, grades seven, eight and nine, will exhibit in the cafetorium of the high school. Judging will begin at 9 a.m.
Rev. Elam in Haiti Rev. Charles Elam pastor of the Ligonier United Methodist church will spend next week in Haiti. Rev. Elam will be among 90 youth, laymen and ministers leaving Wednesday by charter plane from Fort Wayne. The trip is under the direction of Rev. T. L. Sapp, superintendent of the Marion district of United Methodist churches. The youth will be visiting and working in Grace Children’s Tuberculosis hospital, Port Au Prince. Rev. Elam etnd other ministers will be on preaching missions to the surrounding area. Gifts of supplies, clothes and medicines will be taken to Haiti. The group expect to arrive home around January 24. Robert Gunn is director of student activities Robert E. Gunn, 29-year-old West Noble high school faculty member has been appointed director of student activities effective January 12, 1973. Gunn is a 1961 graduate of Penn high school and graduated from Manchester college in 1965. He earned his MS degree from Ball State university in 1972. He has taught at Penn high
The senior division, grades 10, 11 and 12, will exhibit in the science wing of the high school. Judging will start at 9 a.m. All judging should be completed by 12 noon. Judges will be Arthur W. Friedel, professor of chemistry at Purdue-IU Fort Wayne; Fritz Herber, department of chemistry, Tri-State college; Stanley Larimer, Jefferson junior high school, South Bend; Ed Nagle, professor of drafting, Tri-State; Dr. Chester Pinkham, director N. E. Tri-State regional science fair; and Douglas Waldman, Westview high school. Awards will be a trophy for best project in each elementary grade and a first, second and third place trophy in the junior and senior divisions. Regional science fair entries will have a purple ribbon which designates this honor. ~

Dr. Alden Thompson, Kendallville, and West Noble school superintendent Glen Longenbaugh were appointed to the Noble county health board. William S. Grawcock, Albion, and Gerhard Krull, Rome City, were re-appointed. Dr. Robert Stone, Ligonier, was a re-appointment by Ligonier mayor Grover Patrick and mayor John Riemke, of Kendallville, re-appointed Dr. Carl F. Stallman and Harold G. Lash, both of Kendallville.
Bish baby dies of crib death Andrew Michael Bish, six months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bish, r 2 Ligonier, was found dead in his crib Friday morning about 9:30 having been placed there only a short time before. The Ligonier emergency squad car was called to the home immediately but the baby could not be revived. Death was attributed by attending physicians to “crib death”. The baby was born June 19, 1972 in Goshen to Michael H. and Elizabeth (Rose) Bish. Surviving are the parents, a sister Valerie Sue; peternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bish, r 1 Wawaka; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rose, r 1 Wawaka; great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bish, r 3 Ligonier; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wysong, r 1 Wawaka; and Mr. and Mrs. r Roscoe Tredway, Goshen. Services were Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home at Ligonier with Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial was in Oak Park cemetery at Ligonier. Roy S. Potter Roy S. Potter, 88, 804 Cavin street, Ligonier, died in Parkview hospital, Fat Wayne, at 4:05 a.m. Sunday. Mr. Potter was born June 7, 1884 in Onawa, lowa and came to Ligonier 16 years ago. He was married to Ruby Grams on April 21, 1956. Surviving are his wife; one son, Roy, Jr., of Fort Wayne; one step-son, • Carl Grams, of Ligonier; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home at Ligonier. Rev. Charles Elam officiated and 'burial was in Sweets cemetery. Rosemary' Rarick Miss Rosemary Rarick, 21, of r 3 Ligoiier died last week of a selfinflicted gunshot wound from a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with a slug. Her parents found the body when they arrived home about 12 p.m. It is thought she had been dead several hours. Miss Rarick, the daughter of Merl and Gladys May (Biddle) Rarick, was born May 17,1951 in Goshen. She had lived most of her lifetime in this area. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, James Rarick, at home, and a step-brother, George Anglemeyer, of Millersburg. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. in a funeral home in Ligonier, with Rev. Joe
Swartz officiating. Burial was in Brown cemetery near Millersburg. BIRTHS BROWN, Jeffrey Steven Mr. and Mrs. Joe S. PARSON, daughter Mr. and Mrs. Larry Parson, Jr. of r 1 Kimmell are parents of a daughter born January 5 in Goshen hospital. RHODES, daughter Mr. and Mrs. Gary Rhodes, 310 Pontiac street, Ligonier, are parents of an eight pound, five ounce daughter born January 5 in Goshen hospital. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Mike Doll, Cromwell, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rhodes, Michigan City. Mr. Rhodes is an instructor at the West Noble high school. Investigating Lake Wawasee break-in Officers of the county sheriff’s department continue investigation into a break-in at the Lake Wawasee home of Mrs. Orval Klink. Hie break-in, sometime during the past week, was discovered Friday by William Pipp of Syracuse when making a check of the premises. Among items missing was a large bottle containing approximately SSOO in coins. Entry was gained according to deputy Jeff Bronsing, by breaking a door glass. Receives fine and suspended sentence A r 3 Syracuse young man, Donald Nyce, Jr., 18, appeared before county circuit court judge Gene B. Lee Friday morning at which time he was ordered to pay a fine of SIOO and court costs, plus receiving a suspended one year sentence to the Indiana State Farm. Nyce pleaded guilty on a December 29 appearance to a charge of stealing S2O from a cash register in a break-in December 14 at Don’s Sunoco service in Syracuse. Arrested with him in the early morning hours were Kim Miller, 19, 506 South Main street, Syracuse, and minor Gary Lee Johnson, 17, r 1 North Webster. Both were occupants of Nyce’s vehicle of which Miller was driving.

Involved in collision Mrs. Betty Lou Yates, 34, r 2 Syracuse, sustained a bdmp to the head in a two-vehicle collision last Wednesday at 12:41 p.m. in Goshen, however. Authorities reported Mrs. Yates drove her 1967 Mustang from Eleventh street into the Plymouth avenue intersection where she was struck broadside by a 1972 Ford operated by Cynthia Ruth Janzen, 24, 1703 Benham avenue, glkhart.
