14 YEARS AGO, JAN. 22,1959 The Milford Adult Farm class will consider new ideas in using electricity on the farm at their meeting on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bruhn entertained Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Yoder and family of New Paris and Mr. and Mrs. David Hartter Sunday. Susan Beer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Beer of r 2, fell while ice skating Saturday afternoon and broke her ankle. A group of taxpayers interested in getting sanitary improvements in our school met Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Beer gave a birthday party at their home on Sunday for their son, Ted Allan, who was 18, All of northern Indiana is surveying the results of a paralyzing sleet storm that started Tuesday evening and continued until nearly midnight Wednesday. The Milford Trojans went out of the county tournament in its first game played Thursday night against Claypool. The score was 48-37. Girl Scout Troop 46, under the leadership of Mrs. Fred Waldbeser, held a regular meeting and an investiture service at the elementary school building Tuesday after school. Miss Eleanor Williams, daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Milford teacher, has received a scholarship to Sherwood Music school in Chicago. Captain James Myers of the regular U.S. Army, was guest speaker at the regular weekly meeting of the SyracuseWawasee Rotary club Monday night. 24 YEARS AGO, JAN. 20,1949 While looking at the new flower shop adjoining the Beer greenhouses, one wonders which is going to be more beautiful, the exterior or the interior. About 150 bowlers of the Warsaw City Bowling league took part in the banquet served at 1 Moose Hall, Warsaw, Tuesday evening. The Woman’s Missionary Society of the First Brethren church will meet at the home of Mrs. Burris Sharp Thursday evening. Chevrolet’s 1949 passenger cars go on display at the County Motor Sales showrooms in Milford on Saturday. Pine Tree 'R-oop, Milford Girl Scouts, were, guests of their leader Mrs. Robert Overstedt, at dinner last Wednesday evening. A resolution to make U. S. highway 36 the Ernie Pyle Memorial highway was introduced last ' week in the Indiana state legislature. Bob Bushong, Milford’s coach during the last two years when we have had winning teams, was on hand Saturday to see many df die boys he had trained win another county tournament. I Mrs. Andrew Kammerer of Leesburg entertained at a pink and blue shower Wednesday evening for Mrs. Lorene Stookey. Mrs. Mae Kindig of Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Becknell of Goshen recently returned from a 9-day trip to California. Mr. and Mrs. Max Anglin. 30 YEARS AGO, JAN. 21.1943 Mr. and Mrs. Guy Cory took their son Junior to Muncie Sunday where he has entered civilian pilot training at Ball State college. Mrs. Charles Sponseller was hostess to the members of Circle 5 of the Methodist church Monday evening. Rev. and Mrs. Harry L. Graham were hosts of the Adult Bible class last Wednesday evening. Mrs. William Leedy, a teacher in an Elkhart grade school, spent the week end with the Burris Sharp family. Sam Beer of Union St., Fort Wayne, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Beer, Sunday. Final and detailed plans have been made by the pastors for the union services beginning January 24 at the Bethel Brethren church and continuing nightly through the fallowing Thursday. Mrs. Walter Kasper has been helping care for her mother, Mrs. William Tusing, who suffered a stroke. The Red Cross room was well filled again this past week with women eager to do their bit to help out. •The third monthly Sunday school program of the Apostolic Christian church was held Sunday evening in the church auditorium. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bushong entertained Sunday on the occasion of Mrs. Bushong’s birthday. A marriage license has been issued to Delbert Ott of Milford and Ruth Joy Books of Elkhart. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ryman had Sunday dinner with her sister, Mrs. E. A. Smith. 46 AGO, JAN. 19,1933 Truman Cox was appointed for the carrying of the mail to and from the Milford post office and he is succeeding T. L. Hammond. County roads in Indiana total 68,722 miles in a tabulation by the Indiana highway department. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Garman are the parents of a nine pound girl, Donabelle Fae. The Good Fellowship club met at the Milford-'notelruesday night of last week at which time election of officers for was held. Towl Fisher was suddenly taken ill on Thursday night and has been unable to be up. Merle Campbell and family moved back to Milford Sunday where they will be spending the summer. Frank Beer has been in serious condition for the past week. Miss Esther Haab left for Valparaiso last week where she will remain for a few days* visiting her sister.
