Homer Shoop had as his guest Jack Boyle of Pierceton. Presidential citation cards were presented by Lorin Badskey to Don Arnold and A. C. Underwood in recognition for having sponsored a new member. John Weeks circulated a time sheet for recording time spent in fulfilling the major emphasis, “Share Your Life.” Members were advised that letters regarding the proposed repeal of the 1972 phosphate ban can be sent to the Speaker of the House Kermit Burrous and Senator John F. Sweetheart ball which will be held February 17 at Yellow Banks. Mrs. Harold Humbles was named chairman of the committee on decorations and Mrs. Rex Miller and Mrs. Gary Eastlund will arrange for the dance band. Other plans and announcements will be discussed later. The hostess served ice cream cake roll and coffee following the meeting. Mrs. Paul Royer will entertain the ladies in her home for the February 6 meeting. —NW— Hoosier 250 next Sunday Members of the Lakeland Snowmobile club met January 8 in the Barbee Conservation club house with president Dennis Jones conducting the business session. The possibility of purchasing land and building a permanent and private club building was discussed. Also under discussion was the final plans for the Hoosier 250 mile race on Lake Wawasee on January 21. Time trials will be held on Saturday and the 50 ranking highest in speed will be included in Sunday’s race. Some 40 or 45 members of the club had just returned from a one-day safari to Newago, Mich. They reported the family day of fun was just that with a wiener roast in the woods plus the trail rides. Refreshments of rolls, donuts,

coffee and soft drinks were served at the close of the meeting. Hosts for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mignery. —NW— Lydia Circle meets at church The January meeting of the Lydia Circle of the United Methodist Women was held in the church fellowship hall last Tuesday with Mrs. Kathryn Coy and Mrs. Roy Kile as hostesses. Mrs. Coy gave a reading, “First Peace Convention,” from a book by Amy Bolding. Mrs. Harold Anderson gave the lesson on “God Is Love.” After the meeting the hostesses served a jello dessert, wafers and coffee to the 11 members present. —NW—COMMUNITY NEWS The Past Chiefs clqb of Lakeview Temple Pythian Sisters were entertained last week at the home of Mrs. Verland Bockman. The social hour was spent playing eucher with prizes won by Mrs. Russell Engel, Mrs. Frank Greene, Mrs. Alva Griesinger and Mrs. Harry Bouse. The hostess served jello dessert, cookies and coffee. Mrs. Jacob Krouse will entertain in February, Mrs. Keith Enyeart, who suffered facial burns recently when a pressure cooker blew up, is making satisfactory recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Enyeart and daughters were recently involved in an automobile accident near Cromwell. Mrs. Enyeart suffered a broken foot and one little girl emerged with a broken leg. The other daughter and father escaped injury. Mrs. Colleen Lafollette, mother of Mrs. Kenny Enyeart, who was injured in a one-car accident the previous week has been released from the Murphy Medical Center and is recovering satisfactorily at home. Garrett Fruchey was a Sunday dinner guest of his sister, Mrs. Stanley Vanator. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pifer and family visited with Mrs. Jacob

Krouse Sunday afternoon. Mrs. J. L. Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. George Staples of North Webster; Mrs. William Gross of Oswego; and Mrs. D. G. Wiggs of Chapman Lake visited J. L. Pearson at the Veterans hospital in Fort Wayne Sunday afternoon. A birthday celebration was observed for Mr. Pearson. Boy Scouts plan derby The annual winter camp-out for Kosciusko county Boy Scouts will be a klondike derby. Saturday morning from 8 to 9 the units will register at the camp site on the north shore of Carr Lake. The derby will be run from 1 to 4 Saturday afternoon. A klondike derby centers around scout built sleds weighing a minimum of 50 pounds which are boy powered from station to station on a selected course. At each station the sled crews are tested on some scout activity such as fire-building or first aid. There will be a campfire program at 7 p.m. after which the boys will retire to their sleeping bags and tents for the night. Sunday morning after breakfast and church, awards will be presented to the most skilled troops. Camp will be broken around noon. Dan Gast is the scout commissioners in charge. Larry Mickelson, scout executive for the county, promised that event patches will be available. Susan Engelberth on deans list at Tri-State Students named to the dean’s list for the fall quarter at TriState college, having achieved a B average or better, include Susan E. Engelberth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Engelberth, r 2 Pierceton. A graduate of Whitko high school, she is enrolled in arts and sciences.
