Robert Rumfelt, area painter, paper hanger dies Monday
Robert N. Rumfelt, 61, r 2 Milford, a well-known area painter and paper hanger died Monday at 7:35 p.m. in , the Goshen hospital. He had been ill for the last six months. Rumfelt was born in Jefferson township on November 8,1911 to Oscar (“Jim”) and Inez (Estep) Rumfelt. He was a lifetime resident of the Milford and Hastings communities. He and (he former Joy Biller were united in marriage on October 17,1936 in Bourbon. He had worked as a painter and paper hanger for the past 45 years. Rumfelt was a member of the Island Chapel United Methodist church. Surviving with the wife are three sons, Dennis of Goshen and Dane and Donal of r 1 Milford; and one granddaughter. Friends may call at the funeral home in Milford today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Island Chapel church at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. David Widmoyer, pastor of the church, and Rev. Allen Weldy of Elkhart officiating. Burial will be in Leesburg cemetery. Milford Switzer Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. for Milford K. (Eddie) Switzer, 72, 338 South Butler Ave., Indianapolis, father of Mrs. George H. Cornelius, Jr., of r 1 Leesburg. Charles Roth officiated and burial was in the Washington Park East cemetery at Indianapolis. Mr. Switzer was born on September 3,1900 in Cromwell to Charles and Ida Switzer. He was a retired barber, a member of Moose lodge No. 17, Indianapolis, Masonic lodge, Cromwell, Indianapolis Senior Citizens club and had been a resident of Arizona and Indiana. Surviving with the daughter of Leesburg is one stepson, Norman Carver, Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Switzer, Fort Wayne. Dorothy McQuillian. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Dorothy Alice McQuillian, 63, of 512 Harrison street, Syracuse. In failing health for the past ten years, death came at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday upon arrival at Elkhart hospital. She was bom in Chicago, 111., on March 26, 1909 to Joseph and Alice (Metzger) Birney. A member of Goshen’s Trinity Lutheran church, her marriage to Edward S_ McQuillian took place March 4, 1933 and he survives. Also surviving in addition to the husband are two sons, Edward J.

ROBERT N. RUMFELT of Syracuse and David A., Toledo, Ohio; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Dolly Miller, Saint Petersburg, Fla. Burial was in Violett cemetery. Mrs. Ethel Darkwood Mrs. Ethel Darkwood, 75, 1180 Willowdale Ave., Elkhart, and Lake Wawasee, passed away Friday at 11:45 a.m. She had been in ill health for some time. Mrs. Darkwood was bom on February 7, 1897 to Mahlon and Alice Schuder in Jackson township. She was united in marriage to Albert Darkwood on February 14,1932 at Milford and he died on November 30,1964. She retired in 1958 from Boris Smoler and Son, Elkhart, and was a member of- the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 88, Elkhart. The only survivors are one son, John, Elkhart; and one sister, Miss Dora Shuder, Goshen. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Clarence D. Sink officiating. Interment was in the Milford cemetery. Mrs. Ray Moats Services were held at Solomon’s Creek United Methodist church on Saturday for Mrs. Elsie E. Moats, 91, of New Paris. She was found dead in her home Thursday morning where she had died sometime Wednesday night. A long time resident of the New Paris area, she was bom in Benton township on September 25,1881, a daughter of Henry and Mary (Darr) Juday. Her marriage to Ray Moats took place on April 29, 1906 and he preceded her in death November 28, 1952. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Lenna) Leer of Goshen; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. A son Dean
died in 1932. Burial was in Solomon’s Creek cemetery. Orris M. Kalb Final rites were held Saturday for Orris M. Kalb, 65, r 2 Syracuse. He passed away at 9 p.m. Wednesday in Elkhart hospital following an illness of two weeks. A self-employed painter for a number of years, Mr. Kalb was bom on August 26,1907 in Noble county. His marriage to the former Elda Rathke took place in Albion on November 24, 1926. Mr. Kalb was active in boy scouts for a number of years and had received the silver beaver award. In addition to the widow, he is survived by one son, M. Edward Kalb of Bloomington; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Wes (Orpha) Hartsock of Pioneer, Ohio. Burial was in Sparta cemetery at Kimmell. Mrs. Clova E. Felton Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Clova E. Felton, 58, Wabash and mother of Mrs. Roy (Sonja) Russell of r 1 Warsaw. In failing health since November, death was due to complications and came at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Wabash County hospital. Mrs. Felton was born on February 28, 1914 in Stark county, a daughter of Charles and Clara (Bennett) Bales. A housewife, she moved to the Wabash area from Muncie in 1964. Also surviving are three grandchildren; one brother, Robert of LaPorte; and four sisters, Mrs. Ora Cramer, Mrs. Letha Gardner and Mrs. Clarence Bluhm, all of Hanna, and Mrs. Russell Reeves, Union Mills. Burial was in Oswego cemetery. , Richard Streit matter Word has been received of the death of Richard Streitmatter of r 5 Rensselaer, father of Miss Joan Streitmatter a former employee of Beer’s Flowers in Milford. Mr. Streitmatter passed away Sunday night. Surviving with the daughter are his widow, Zura, three daughters and two sons, all of the Rensselaer area. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Apostolic Christian church in Francesville. Mrs. William Hartter Word has been received of the death of Mrs. William Hartter of Peoria, ID., who passed away Tuesday evening. She had suffered a severe heart attack earlier in the week. She was the stepmother of Elmer Hartter of Milford. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Mrs. Donald Berkey, 37, r 2 Syracuse, is listed in good condition at the Goshen hospital where she was admitted Sunday after becoming DI in a Goshen home. The city ambulance was called at 5:09 p.m. and took Mrs. Berkey to the hospital. Mrs. Eugene Sauder of r 4 box 356-A Elkhart, underwent surgery Tuesday at the Elkhart hospital. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Graff of r 1 MDford.
