Special Christinas programs are being held during this happy time of the year in the various churches in the North Webster area. Those events follow: Brethren church A playlet, “What Christmas Means to You,”, was presented at the Church of the Brethren Sunday night. The program opened with congregational singing and reading of the Christmas scriptures. Kay Rowe; the men’s trio composed of Joe Shock, Paul Rogers and Preston Gregory; the Rowe family; and Joe Barrett and his sons Allen and Kerry. Mrs. Glen Whitehead and Mrs. Joe Shock planned the program. Immediately following the service everyone was invited to the basement for Christmas cookies with Mrs. L. J. Richcreek and Mrs. Frank Royer serving. Members of the congregation of the Church of the Brethren will participate in Christmas caroling tonight (Wednesday). Plans were made by the Willing Workers class. The Beacon class members will prepare and serve chili and cocoa as the carolers return to the church. Christian church No special Christmas program has been planned at the North Webster Christian church as illness and winter vacations have reduced the size of the congregation temporarily. However, Rev. Charles Meyers, pastor of the church, has promised a special Christmas sermon. The congregation will provide appropriate music. Church of God Rev. Lewis Thomas conducted regular Sunday morning services last Sunday with a Christmas emphasis and announced the annual Christmas cantata would be held at the evening services. The adult choir, under the direction of John Atteberry, assistant to the pastor, presented the cantata entitled “A Song Unending” by John W. Peterson. Soloists were Mrs. Doug Bowser, Mrs. Hubert (Donna) Robbins, Mrs. Charles Dye, Ernest (Tag) Huffman and Mrs. Norbert Niles. Accompanists were Mrs. Lester White, piano and Mrs. Arnold Culver, organist. Entertainment was provided by the children before the presentation of the cantata. Mrs. Sam Lundy was in charge of the pre-school group. They sang several songs. The group, which included grades one to five, was supervised by Mrs. Douglas Bowser. Their portion of the program included piano solos by Jill Sliger and Melanie Zurcher,

Mrs. Norbert Niles, assisted by Mrs. Dave Carey and Mrs. Lester White, directed the junior high choir in three special selections. A special Christmas eve program is planned by the youth group of the church. This will consist of an informal skit portraying the real meaning of Christmas and is entitled, “Youth Meet Christmas.” It has a nonreligious theme with secular songs. The 17 boys choir is directed by John Atteberry. Doug Bowser will represent Christ and will ask the question, “What is the real meaning of Christmas.” United Methodist church Vesper services were held December 10 at the North Webster United Methodist church with the theme being “Different Meanings of Christmas.” The program was narrated by Gregg Smith. The Christmas story was portrayed by the elementary department of the church school and appropriate music provided by the primary group, the junior choir and the God’s Children choir, and a duet by Mrs. Jonna Richey and Lynn Gray. Mrs. Hal Hull, assisted by Mrs. Gregg Smith, directed the service. Members of the Women’s Society of Christian Service provided finger foods for all to enjoy during the fellowship hour which followed the program. The junior choir members were out caroling last Thursday night. Sunday night members of the Youth Fellowship group went caroling. Sunday morning services last week included a special ceremony dedicating the new choir robes. The robes are gold with liturgical collars in the four seasons colors — purple, red, white and green. New members were also received during the morning worship services. They included Jeri Pearson, Juli Pearson, Steve Badskey, Susan Nulf, Kim Richardson, Jill Davis, Jeff Root, Teri Smith, Jeanne Dye and Dyanne Tracy. A group of members from the church is planning to attend a convocation on small groups which will be held January 12-14 at the Main Street United Methodist church in Kokomo. The topic is “God Uses Ordinary People in an Extraordinary Way.” Anyone interested in going to Kokomo for this program should contact the church office or Miss Carol Calloway. The King’s Exchange will be closed the week between Christmas and New Years. The youngsters at the nursery school have been baking cookies for their parents for Christmas. Mothers were invited to a party December 19 at 10:30 a.m. The children also made decorations for their room. —NW— From the Kiwanis newsletter The Kiwanis club was privileged to have an inter-club from Warsaw last week consisting of Doc McCleary, Howard Castall, Flip Phillips, Richard M. Clay and Bob Loop. Other guests were John McClure of Huntington and Jim Gerard of North Webster. Dr. Lawshe conducted the induction ceremonies for two new members — Richard Long, a North Webster school teacher and Duane Leedy who is in the antenna business. Sponsors were Dai Arnold and A. C. Underwood. Don Martin, Cecil Kaufman, John Moore and A. C. Underwood were included in the inter-club at Warsaw on December 7. Lorin Badskey, Jerry Badskey, Bob Morgan and Don Watson were at Fort Wayne on December 9. A new membership program has been organized with Glen White, Dr. Lawshe, Lee Carbonlau and Lorin Badskey serving as team captains. The ladies breakfast was held Monday morning.

Cecil Foods purchased by Sellers Mfg. Inc.
The former Cecil Foods plant in Milford is being purchased by Sellers Mfg., Inc., with limited production to start in the old plant in about four weeks. Paul Becker, administrative assistant for Sellers, said the Milford plant will be a special products division and will take care of the overflow from the
Mrs. Bouse hosts Christmas party Mrs. Harry Bouse entertained the Past Chiefs of Lakeview Temple Pythian Sisters with a buffet supper at her home last Wednesday night. She read a beautiful devotional selection prior to serving the turkey with all the trimmings to the 10 members present. A short business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Jacob Krouse. Officers for 1973 were elected as follows: President — Mrs. Harry Bouse Vice president — Mrs. C. J. Menzie Secretary-treasurer — Mrs. Verland Bockman The meeting closed with group singing of Christmas carols after which Santa distributed gifts and new secret sister names were drawn. The remainder of the evening was spent playing euchre with prizes given to Mrs. Russell Engel, Mrs. Stanley Vanator and Mrs. C. J. Menzie. —NW—COMMUNITY NEWS Mrs. Keith Enyeart suffered second degree bums last Monday evening on chest and face when a pressure cooker blew up. Her right eye appeared to be damaged. More serious damage was averted by quick action on the part of her seven-year-old son who provided proper first aid until help arrived. Carl Wendell is being transferred from the Veterans’ hospital in Fort Wayne to the Lafayette home. Klora Day of the Ponderosa trailer court has been quite ill and is now with her daughter in Fort Wayne. A Crash on icy Pickwick Road A rural Syracuse man, Robert J. Stafford, 22, was treated by Syracuse first aid members and taken to Goshen hospital for further treatment 'following a two-car crash on icy Pickwick road near the Chinese Gardens at 2:35 p.m. Sunday. Stafford, a passenger in an auto operated by Teri Rae Cole, 23, r 1 Cromwell, sustained a laceration to the forehead, head and scalp, when he struck the windshield of the car. Driver of the other vehicle, David Hile, 24, r 1 Syracuse, was not injured in the crash investigated by county officers. The mishap occurred as one driver steered to the left to miss a parked auto belonging to an ice fisherman and skidded into the path of the approaching vehicle. Miss Cole was cited for having no operator’s license. Damage to her auto was set at SBSO with SBOO to the Hile car. David Cory of Evansville visited with his parents over the week end, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cory of Milford.

Investigate breaking and entering, theft County and local officers continue investigation into a reported breaking and entering sometime last Wednesday at the Ronald Easley home on r 2 Syracuse. The front door was broken to gain entry and among items taken were two television sets and an electric oven. Junior Merry Maidens have Yule party The Junior Merry Maidens 4-H club of Milford met at the Milford fire station December 16 for its Christmas party. Boxes of fruit and nutbread were made and taken to the nursing home when the girls went caroling. The club returned to the fire station where the girls held a short business meeting. Ideas on giving demonstrations were discussed. Following games and the breaking of a pinata, Jamie and Jolene White sang a special number. The girls enjoyed a chili supper and a gift exchange. The next meeting will be held on January 9 after school at the fire station. Any girl interested in joining 4-H is invited to attend. No injuries in collision No injuries were sustained in a two-car collision on Indiana 13 just south of Syracuse at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, resulting in $475 in damage to each auto. The mishap occurred as the highway narrowed due to snow and ice at the edge and neither driver yielded. Involved were Vivian Naile, 16, r 1 Syracuse, driver of a southbound 1969 Oldsmobile and William K. Hoover, 19, 613 North Mullen street, Syracuse, operator of a northbound 1969 Pontiac. Syracuse police investigated. Speeding fines paid Turkey Creek township justice of the peace Christian Koher assessed two speeding fines of $26 each in jp court during the month of December. Fined were Stanley Rensberger of Syracuse and Charles Frushour of Syracuse. Children's program presented Sunday The children’s Christmas program was given Sunday during the morning worship service. Narrator for the dialogue was Miss Rhonda Hurd. The first part was entitled, “The Characters of Christmas Meet Christ.” The second part was “The Wise Men Expected Him” and the third part was “The King Rejected Him.” The fourth part of the program was “The Innkeeper Neglected Him;” and the fifth was “And You?” Scripture reading was by Mischelle Johnston, Lorraine Meek, Cindy Wildman and Sonia Giant. Miss Cindy Rapp played an organ solo “O Holy Night.” Music for the program was under the direction of Mrs. Robert Hurd and accompanied by Cindy Rapp on the piano. Mrs. Gerald Dausman was in charge of the arrangements. A large group met Sunday evening and divided into two groups to carol at 11 homes. Hot chocolate and cookies were enjoyed afterwards in the fellowship hall. Becker listed the company’s reasons for coming to Milford as being the proximity of industry which is centered in Elkhart and the high quality of people living in the Milfad area.
