Wawasee falls to biggest foe, Warsaw
Warsaw jumped to an early 8-0 lead last Friday night to open the game between the Warriors and their archrivals, the Warsaw Tigers. Wawasee fought back and when Jim Stout scored at the buzzer to end the first quarter they were only down 20-19, but Warsaw ripped off 11 points before the Warriors could connect in the second quarter. When Stout ended the half with another bucket at the gun Wawasee was back 39-27. Dwight Tallman’s Tigers stretched their margin to 9 and led 52-43 at the third stop. In the final stanza Warsaw outscored Wawasee 11 points and wound up with an 86-66 victory. The loss dropped Tom Spear’s Warriors to 2-3 and 0-2 in conference standings. Dave Hamilton was the top scorer for the Warriors with 15. Greg Fidler netted 12 while Stout, Chamberlin and Beer each added 10.

The Tigers were paced by Denny Hepler who scored 20. Rod Wildman and Mark Hanna both had 16. The Warrior reserved lost a close battle 55-53. Wawasee edged by Triton 80-78
Last Saturday night the Triton Trojans squeaked out an 80-78 victory over Wawasee. The Warriors outplayed Triton in the first half and took a 42-29 lead. They hit 20 of 39 from the field for 51 per cent against Triton’s 11 of 37 for 30 per cent. The Warriors cooled off in the second half and held a 63-57 lead at the 3rd stop. Triton tied the game at 67-67 with 5:27 left and went on to take the lead. The Warriors, however, stayed within range and with one minute left Greg Fidler connected on a 15 footer and brought the Warriors within one. Triton’s Jim Fuzy hit a free throw with 18 seconds on the clock to give the Trojans a two point lead. Wawasee failed to score in the remaining seconds and Triton won 80-78. The loss dropped the Warriors record to 24. Jim Stout had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Warriors in both departments. Greg Fidler put in 14 and Jan Beer had his best night with 13 points. Also in double figures were Chamberlin and Hamilton with 12 each. Triton was topped by Sellers and Hall, both with 23.

Wawasee grapplers stop North Wood 38-23
Wawasee Warriors grabbed their second Northern Lakes Conference win of the season Thursday evening when they defeated a surprisingly strong North Wood foe 38-23. The Warriors once again dominated the lower weight classes, winning four out of five, the less occurring at 98 pounds. Starting regular Dave Doll was having his own rough bout with die flu while substituting Steve Hoopingarner faced a healthy talented North Wood foe. The Dye brothers then got the Warriors on the winning track by posting back to back victories. Paul Dye at 105 pounds decisioned his opponent 6-4. Then Chip Dye nailed Strang in 1:16 at 112 pounds, picking up his third straight pin of the year. Mark Vanlaningham chipped in with a 6-1 decision at 119. Dan Doll kept his pinning record in tact by stopping his opponent in 126 pounds action at 5:08. Randy Lewallen battled to a 6-6 draw with his opponent at 132 pounds. Jerry Yoder, in his first varsity
Blackford stops Wawasee 56-39
Wawasee’s swim team was defeated by Blackford in the Blackford high school pool. The final score was Blackford 56 and Wawasee 39. Wawasee had five first places including one relay. First places were won by Tom Spearman in both the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breaststroke. Mike Bitner
Tickets on sale Monday for holiday tourney Season tickets will be on sale in the Wawasee high school book store next week, Monday through Wednesday, for the holiday tournament which will be held at Wawasee December 28 and 29. Tickets will also be on sale the evening of the Northridge game, December 22.

Seats will be reserved. Wawasee has 343 tickets on the floor level for students and 420 tickets in the balcony. Each participating school received one-fourth of the tickets except for 400 balcony tickets at the end of the gym which will be unreserved seats. Season and session tickets will be sold at the gate if the gym has not already been sold out. North Wood and West Noble will play the first game at 7 p.m. Thursday. Whitko and Wawasee ’ will play the second game of the evening.
