.CUSfejjO . / Lavon (Mrs. Ash) Hawk reminds us that Wawasee high school principal Henry Smith will talk to the Concerned Citizens Committee on Drugs at the school at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8. She makes a big point that the public is invited and urged to attend. The committee is now two years old, having been formed December 4, 1970, and Lavon points out that drugs are still very much a problem in the Lakeland area. Are you listening? A new snowmobile club was formed last Wednesday night for the Syracuse-Wawasee area with Larry Clodfelter serving as its first president. The next meeting is scheduled for December 12 and persons missing the first meeting are urged to attend, in fellowship hall at Saint Andrew’s church. Leisurely taking a stroll on Indiana 13 north of town in the fast falling and slippery snow Friday around noon were two ponies and a horse. The trio got as far as the county line road but were later returned to their home just north of road 6. Vicki is back! Vicki is Vicki Hummel and she’s back at Syracuse Furniture, formerly Brammer’s Furniture, south of Syracuse. She’ll continue to reside at Warsaw, but will work full time at selling furniture and drapery. If you’re wondering who the tall, handsome man is around town, it’s probably John Holderman of Elkhart, an accountant who has an office in the First Charter Insurance building on a part time basis. John is married to the former Diana Alfrey, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Alfrey of Lake Wawasee. Syracuse Lions are at it again — selling Christmas trees, that is.

They have Christmas tree sales as one of their club’s major fundraising projects, and proceeds are used for their various local club projects. Jim Fry is club president, but he’s recruited some real salesmen from within his club to handle on-the-lot sales. A witty salesman, passing through Syracuse, was in town long enough to drop this gem: 1976 Democratic Presidential slate: Ted Kennedy and Tom Eagleton — waterproof and shockproof. With Thanksgiving over, thoughts have turned to Christmas and many homes and businesses have been decorating for the season. As one walked by Love Furniture, six youths were seen Friday afternoon, one in each window and each painting their own scene. Seems there is some fifth grade talent according to the finished scenes. One must drive by at night to fully appreciate the beautiful colors including the huge tree with tiny red lights in the home of Mrs. Betty Dust, her big outdoor tree and another on Dolan Drive. Were Linda and Charles dancing cheek-to-cheek recently? After watching the Sunday night news where a small (pop. 5500) Utah town was making a bid for the 1976 Winter Olympics after the state of Colorado voted to turn them down, the topic became the subject of interest at the Syracuse Case breakfast club on Monday morning. The little town in Utah has a slim (or is it fat?) chance of getting the Winter Olympics, but they did come away with several minutes of prime time on television news. And that ain’t bad! Anyway, the consensus at the breakfast club was that Syracuse should enter a competitive bid for same. What with Mt. Wawasee for skiing, and our lakes for the skating games, what could be nicer for the local economy. One thing they failed to mention: It will take about $1 million (more or less) to get the games here. Anyone with a loose million they can spare? A Proverb says: Where there is no vision, the people will perish.

When it has leveled everything, fire burns itself out, and so does a lie. — Samuel Shellabarger. Have you taken a trip through Fascination Place recently. Growth and developments might amaze you, and some person or persons took great pride in area Christmas decorations. The annual free kiddie show at the Pickwick has been set for December 16 with shows at 10 and one. The police chief, this morning, gave a nice commendation to area drivers in-spite-of the hazardous driving conditions here since Monday, adding he was extremely proud of the drivers and no accidents had been reported in the town area. Have you seen Betty Menefee’s perfect marriage kit? It is clever, holds ten items and many clever thoughts.
