This friction is created when the brake lining presses against the braking surface (brake drum or disc brake rotor). Ideally, the brake lining and brake drums — or brake rotor, if you have disc brakes — should be dry. That’s when the maximum coefficient of friction will be developed and the brakes wifi work best.
