FIGURED IN DRUG RAID — The dilapidated old Hoopingarner house on West Main street, Syracuse, located just west of the business block, figured in the drug raid of last Wednesday. Local officers made a search of the house last Wednesday on the basis of a tip and found an under-age youth who admitted to being a drug user and who implicated Eddie Thornburg as a local “pusher.” The youth aided officers in making a purchase which let to the raid on the Thornburg home and later to Thornburg's arrest.
Observing the buy, officers then obtained search warrants, making a search of the home. Found were 15 bags of marijuana which would have sold for around $225 at street prices, plus other drug equipment including various smoking devices, and a number of capsules and pills. The confiscated liquids and powders were sent to the Indiana state police laboratory for analysis. They were found hidden in a number of places about the room. No charges were made against Jerry Thornburg. Taking part in the Wednesday episode were Vanderßeyden, Kitch, Frey, donservation officer Earl Money, and Kosciusko county deputies Roger Fellows and Ron Robinson. Vanderßeyden, on Wednesday, stressed the fact the department is investigating all information given them regarding drug traffic locally and urged persons to contact his department with names being kept confidential.
