Syracuse Junior High Defeats Avilla 14-0 Syracuse junior high school romped to it’s first football victory last week by defeating Avilla 14-0. The game was halted after four minutes into the third quarter due to a rain storm. Although most of the game was played in rain, the Yellow Jackets scored quickly on an 8yard run by Rick Bauman and Avilla, after receiving the kickoff was forced to punt. J. C. Schrock ran the ball back 30-yards to set up the second touchdown as Rick Bauman again ran it over from the 13. Defensive of the Yellow Jackets was very impressive and Avilla could not penetrate farther than their own 35. Outstanding line play by Dennis Lemburg, Dan Walker, James Glon and Greg Miller were key factors to the success. Eighth grade quarterback Keith Cripe directed the entire game except for six calls that were sent into the game by coach Tom Jones and Larry Pletcher. The ‘Jackets will meet the Milford Trojans at the Wawasee high field next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
