Warriors second of the season, against one loss to Rochester. The game was a superb team effort as the Warrior defense allowed only two touchdowns, both coming in the second half. Their crushing ground attack led by their outstanding senior fullback Kim Cripe and the unvailing of speedster tailback junior Rick Brannock, completely obliterated the Goshen Redskins defense to the tune of 400 yards rushing. Quite a remarkable accomplishment for a so called young and inexperienced offense. Goshen’s Redskins started out strong with their backs picking up good yardage of the wish bone T diving to the Warriors’ 44 yard ■■■rW 1 w DETERMINATION — Determination, that’s what did it! Kim Cripe is shown above after he arrived at the bench after his best high school performance last Friday night. Cripe gained 186 yards on 30 carries, scoring three touchdowns and four PAT’S.

line. On third down and long yardage Wawasee’s big Tom Hall intercepted a Redskin’s pass and returned it to Goshen’s 41 yard line. The Warriors struck quickly as the baby bull, Kim Cripe, struck the Redskins line for five yards. On the next play 6:46 in the first quarter, Kim again smashed off a right tackle for 36 yards and the Warriors first touchdown. Kim also added the PAT and the Warriors were on their way 8-0. Take 14-0 Lead Warrior Kim Cripe picked up a key 4-1 yard play to the 49 yard line at 2:28 left in the second quarter to keep the Warriors alive. At 1:14 left in the half speedster Rick Brannock emerged in the likeness of former Warrior standout Russ Mikel as he skampered around the end for big yardage to the Goshen 24 yard line. The baby bull, Kim Cripe, took over from there as he repeatedly slashed the Redskins line for good yardage only to be stopped one yard short of the goal line with only seven seconds remaining in the half. After a brief session with coach Don Storey, play resumed as all fans strained their necks to watch the action at the west goal line. With the snap of the ball came thunderbolt Cripe behind the great blocks of Warriors Jay Jones and Tom Hall as the Warriors scored perhaps the most demoralizing touchdown of the game with only three seconds showing on the clock. The PAT failed but Warrior fans didn’t seem to notice as they gave their Warrior team a standing ovation as they left the field leading Goshen 14-0. Smith Scored The 14-0 lead wasn’t enough for the Warrior’s as Mike Vanlaningham returned the second half kickoff to the Warrior 29 yard line. Warrior Doug Brown picked up yardage for a key first down on 4-9 to the Goshen 21 yard line. Then momentarily the Warrior attack seemed stimied as the Redskins forced Wawasee into a 4-10 situation. On 4-10 sophomore quarterback Mark Smith rolled around left end and turned on the speed, driving into the left corner of the end zone, behind a tremendous block thrown by Warrior Doug Brown. The score came after six minutes of fine ball control capping a 70 yard touchdown march giving the Warriors a 20-0 lead with the six minutes remaining in the third quarter. Goshen Excells On the kickoff following Mark Smith’s run Goshen’s receiver just about broke it all the way as only Doug Brown saved the return from going all the way. At 4:23 left in the third quarter Gqshen had moved the ball down to the Warrior 13 yard line. The Warrior defense, behind some key plays of Shops and Schumm, forced the Redskins into a 4-3 situation. But at 2:26 a nice play fake into the Warrior line left the end smooth for Goshen’s Fearnow as he scored his team’s first touchdown with Welsh adding two more points as he ran for the PAT. Goshen’s Sheline scored his team’s second touchdown on a two yard run, lapping a 91 yard drive. The big gainer for the Redskins came on a nice 59 yard run by Feamow and made the score 10-16 as fans wondered how the pressure would effect the young Warriors. Warriors Retaliate Following the second Goshen score the Warriors “Wild Bunch” answered any questions pertaining to the final outcome of the game. With 8:30 left in the game Warrior Brad Lemberg returned the kickoff to Goshen’s 47 yard line. Then all people present at the game watched in awe as Wawasee’s baby bull Kim Cripe carried the ball seven straight times for 49 yards and a very big touchdown with 5:28 remaining in the game. Mark Smith ran for the PAT making the score 28-16. Cripe’s performance en route to the Warrior touchdown was certainly almost unbelievable, but must not fail to give due credit to the Warriors’ offensive line of Jay Jones, Tom Hall, Roger Peterson, Bruce Korenstra, Chad Singrey and Mark Reiff for their outstanding work in the Goshen game. The Warriors Rick Brannock put the icing on the cake as he ran for 32 yards on a reverse, then on the next play sped around the end for 24 yards receiving one of the

finest downfield blocks ever executed by a Warrior in the name of Doug Brown, as he completely wiped Brannocks* only resistance between the goal line off his feet.- Warrior Kim Cripe added two more points on the PAT run, giving the Warriors a very big win 36-16. The victory was a big one because it was this Warrior team of the 1972 season, which completed what was attempted three times before, defeat Goshen, the only team the Warriors have never beaten on their varsity schedule. It is amazing the way the Warriors are progressing from game to gtqne It is my guess this OFFENSIVE PLAYER — No one really needs to be told that Kim Cripe was the offensive player of the past week.
