14 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 25,1958 Mrs. Roy Treesh entertained her bridge club Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sprague of South Bend have moved into the Walter Krider home just south of the Milford Methodist church. There were 160 young people who attended the sock hop Saturday night. A program of special interest will take place Sunday morning at the Milford Christian church. Melvin A. Markley was removed to his home in Milford from the Elkhart hospital where he was taken Saturday for medical treatment. The Brotherhood of the First Brethren church met at the home of Gene Miller Tuesday evening. The annual Milford firemen’s barbecue dinner will be held Sunday at the community building. Mrs. Mel Lyon and granddaughter and Mrs. Pearle Locke visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Clapper at Michigan Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mathews and their daughter, Mrs. Charles Both, have returned from a 10day trip through the eastern states and Atlantic coast. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Slabaugh are the parents of a son, Michael Allen; Mr. and Mrs. James Sumpter are the parents of a son, Max Edward; Mr. and Mrs. Garland D. Frazier are the parents of a daughter, Karen Jo; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Miller are the parents of a son; Mr. and Mrs. Merton Peopper are the parents of a daughter, Sabrina Lou. 24 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 23,1948 Kindergarten for a happy group of Milford youngsters began in the library basement on Monday morning with Mrs. Joe Sunthimer as instructor. Joe Foster Ruch, MMFA, Great, Lakes Naval Training Station, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ruch. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stump entertained at their home Tuesday evening for the Fellowship class of the Christian church. Officials of Van Buren township are advertising this week for bids on a new fire truck plus full equipment to be used in the township. The speaker at the Lions club meeting held Monday night was Dr. T. S. Schuldt who spoke on health problems in the state of Indiana. Joseph Judkins, organist, assisted by Mrs. Judkins, pianist, and Mrs. Charles Sponseller, soprano, gave a recital at the Methodist church Sunday evening. Callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Dippon on Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Crouch and Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Crouch. 30 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 24,1942 Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Miller and family entertained at dinner Sunday for the Charles Mishler family, Herman Miller family and the Arthur Wise family. Edwin Grubb got the end cut off of the thumb on his right hand while using an electric rip saw at work Monday. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Andy Snowden are the parents of a son; Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Gay are the parents of a son; Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Wallace are the parents of a daughter. Herman L. Green, Chanute Field, 111., spent a 4 day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gale Green. Howard B. Estep has transferred to Richard and Marjorie J. Hollar a tract of land in Milford and Van Buren township. The country home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Webster was the scene of a supper party for the younger set Tuesday evening. The Sorosis club met Monday evening with the president Mrs. B. B. Biggs and the entire membership was present. Max Wagoner of Purdue university spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wagoner. The revival at the Christian church is progressing under the leadership of Robert Hendershot, singing evangelist, and the minister, Harry L. Graham. The Columbian Reading Circle met on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Burris Sharp with 16 members and four guests present. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sharp were the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Sharp. 40 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 22,1932 Members of the Milford high school held a skating party at Blosser’s Park Friday night. The potato crop in many places in this vicinity does not look so good. In many places in the vicinity of Milford corn has been cut and in some instances some has been shucked. Milford high school baseball team met with their third defeat of the season at Syracuse Friday evening. The club house at Tippecanoe Lake Country club closed for the season on Sunday. Thursday night about 9 o’clock the fire alarm sounded calling many towns people out to a fire which started in the Clarence Miller residence above the Miller Chevrolet room. The Callander Dairy has purchased a new truck to be used on their milk route. Mrs. Joseph Tusing as hostess to the W.M.S. of the Christian church Tuesday evening. Clayton Hollar of Fort Wayne spent Saturday night and Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hollar. > Miss Grace Gay has been a gest in the Marshall Estep home.
