Classrooms — (Continued From Page 1) Milford junior high and Syracuse schools. At Milford old grads will have to close their eyes to picture the old study hall — it’s no longer there. The western portion of the room was made into a junior high library some time ago. This year a wall has been installed and an additional classroom is now, found in the eastern portion of the room. The old stage area has been turned into additional space for student’s lockers. The band room has been moved upstairs and the hall enclosed to make the room larger. Ceilings in all rooms have been lowered and up-dated lighting installed. The guidance department will be moved to the lower floor and will be located in the former band room. > The end of the hall on the main floor has been enclosed and a sick room and nurse’s station will be located there. This will put those students who are ill nearer the office where they can be attended to easier. All rooms are being painted and tile is being layed to replace the old wooden floors. 12 New Classrooms A total of 12 new elementary classrooms have been added to the North Webster school as well as a new cafeteria and hallway to enable the junior high students to use both the gym and cafeteria without going into the elementary area. In the older section of the building wooden windows have been replaced by new aluminum opes. The ceilings have been dropped and new lighting installed. The walls have been redone in tones of tan, beige and gold and taraza floors have been poured. The junior high office has been moved down the hall with the sick room being established nearby. An elementary office has also been created for new elementary principal Richard R. Long. The old junior high school office has been made into two locker areas. The first thing old grads will notice when visiting the building is the fact all lockers have been taken out of the narrow halls and put into locker areas which have been created throughout the junior high school portion of the building. The old library room, which was previously divided to make two classrooms, will once again hold the books available to North Webster students. The old cafeteria will become the shop area. The band room, located above the gym area, has been enclosed and made into two rooms, one for elementary music and the other for junior high music. Here and there about the building walls were knocked out and three very small, crowded, classrooms were made into two more useable classrooms. The cafeteria equipment which was late in arriving has been installed and the kitchen at the North Webster building is ready for use. At Syracuse The major improvements at the Syracuse schools were the installation of new lights in the older section of the elementary wing and the new heating system in the junior high building. A new food storage area was added to the cafeteria and the Syracuse students will find new walnut designed tables in the cafeteria. 10 Rooms At WHS The addition at Wawasee high school features 10 pie shaped classrooms, a math lab and library for social studies. Four of the 10 classrooms are math rooms while the other six are for social studies. All feature the new folding, portable walls which allows for individual rooms or larger rooms for team teaching. The new addition was necessary to the four-year-old high school because of the in-

creased enrollment there. The original building was constructed to hold a maximum of 900 students. The projected enrollment for 1972-73 was 925 — this number is expected to be closer to 950 when actual, enrollment figures are compiled. The new addition blends well with the original building and in a short time neither student nor visitor will be able to tell one portion of the building from the other. The only give-away will be those pie shaped rooms which should prove to be very practical. Budget Up — (Continued From Page 1) monies needed for advertising ana necessities, or can not be used if not appropriated.— At the end of the year, funds left revert back into the general fund. Oversight An apparent oversight in the budget presented from the fire department for operating of car and clothing, was estimated as one operation instead of two by the town board with $1,250 being allowed for the advertised budget, instead of the proposed and desired $2,500, cutting needs just in half, for the 25 firemen. The misunderstanding could cause five firemen in December to receive no pay or to equalize all firemen with S4O, according to a fire department spokesman. Town fire chief Robert Penick stated that this is the second year in a row the department has been shorted due to misunderstanding between his department, the township trustee’s office and the Syracuse town board of trustees and requested a joint three-way meeting for next year. Hughes also noted that although a number of town employees had received raises, none were appropriated for the station operators. Town board member Darrell Grisamer informed Hughes a request had not been made for such and since the township pays 60 per cent of the operator’s salaries, a salary increase could not be authorized without trustee Joseph Shewmon. Also attending the meeting in addition to board members Thomas Prickett, Louis Kuilema, Darrell Grisamer and Noble Blocker, was fireman William Pipp. The budget now goes before the county auditor and state board of tax commissioners. Plan Commission Meets Tuesday Due to a high absentee of plan commission members, no action was taken Tuesday night at a meeting at town hall regarding a petition of the Columbia Realty corporation to the Syracuse Town Plan commission for a certificate of approval. The request for the subdivision by the realty corporation consists of approximately 5.47 acres of 25 lots in the Enchanted Hills area. Plan commission president Joseph Gray however did suggest to members they be thinking of an area for establishment of an industrial park. VISIT RELATIVES AND FRIENDS IN MILFORD Colonel and Mrs. Thomas Loosmore and son Greg, 16, left Milford today for Denver, Colorado, where they will be making their home. They have been visiting Mrs. Loosmore’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Replogle, since Saturday. Mrs. Loosmore is the former Marion Replogle of Milford. They are moving from Washington, D. C., to Denver where the Colonel will accept a civilian personnel job upon retirement following 28 years of military service. They have another son, Sgt. Thomas Loosmore, Jr., stationed at San Antonio, Texas.

Envy The Man Who Flies His Own Plane? You Can, Too!
Ever envied the man or woman who drives to the airport, steps confidently aboard a private plane, and flies away to an out-of-town business meeting or wellearned vacation in the Great Outdoors? There’s no need for envy. That person easily can be you. All that’s required is a private pilot’s license, which may be earned at hundreds of flight training schools throughout the country, such as the nationwide network of Cessna Pilot Centers. If you learned to drive a family car, you’ll find learning to fly similarly simple ... and much more rewarding. No extraordinary skills are required; only average good health (about the same as you’d need to pass an insurance physical) and a sincere desire to learn. Check your nearest airport for names of government licensed, approved flight schools in your area. There are many ways to begin. Probably the best is to take advantage of the special “get acquainted” introductory flight lesson offered by many schools for only $5.00. This enables a prospective student to actually fly an airplane himself, accompanied by a licensed flight instructor, and base his decision to continue on to a private pilot license on actual piloting « experience. Years of study have gone into the most effective ways of teaching people to fly. Some schools teach operation of the aircraft as a separate and unrelated element from ground school (in which students learn about Federal Air Regulations, flight theory, radio and navigation procedures, and other essentials necessary to operate an airplane from point A to point B). More modern methods, such as that used at Cessna Pilot Centers, feature ‘integrated’ learning, in which ground instruction and flight portions are interwoven in such a manner that the student is exposed only to that portion of classroom learning relating directly to his next flying lesson. This way, he learns what he needs to know at a logical time and place, and can apply it immediately to a specific flight lesson and situation. Integrated systems such as this generally also feature audio-visual aids, which can be used either in group classroom situations or self-taught in the privacy of the student’s own home.. Many people are surprised to learn that, on the average, it takes only about 10-12 hours of instruction before a student can, with confidence, fly an airplane himself. This is solo time ... a day when your instructor steps from the airplane and confidently asks you to “fly it around the pattern a few times yourself.” Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations require that a student have a minimum of 35-40 hours flying time before taking the private pilot flight test with an FAA-licensed flight examiner. This time is spent learning

various flight maneuvers, cross-country flight planning, map reading, and other essentials to prepare you for the test and a safe and enjoyable business and personal flying career. Accomplishment of these elements opens a new world of travel adventure, expanded business opportunities and personal freedom.
Lets f»Mtta|! BOAT NOTES— Hints for the Outboard Skipper If your outboard is losing power when underway, experts at Evinrude Motors suggest checking four possible causes: I) Carburetor adjustment: an improper air-gas mixture results in decreasing motor efficiency. 2) . Wrong type spark plugs; consult your owner’s manual for the correct installation. 3) Clogged or obstiructed fuel line; possibly the line is “gummed” up or some other foreign matter has entered, limiting the flow of fuel, and 4) If the motor is also overheating, inspect the cooling system for clogged water intake or*defective water pump. Operating at night can build your confidence as a boat handler and also test your powers for observation. But remember, darkness limits the range of vision and alters the perspective. Use caution after sunset and have proper lighting aboard. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, don’t venture into areas you haven’t already navigated in daylight. • • • Pulling up anchor needn’t be a messy job. Frequently, large amounts of weed and grass are attached to the line and will follow the anchor into your boat. To help free this matter, the Evinrude News Service suggest swishing the anchor line up and down before the clinging grass and weed is clear of water. • • • A boarding ladder can be a great addition to an outboard boat, especially at anchor when all hands are taking a refreshing dunk. But don’t leave the ladder attached to the side when underway, , reminds the Evinrude News Service. It’s a good way to Hose it overboard or worse, have it freed and sent flying to some unsuspecting victim. «i • • Ski-belts are all, right for fallen skiers, who happen to have good swimming capabilities, but don’t consider the waist-circling device an approved lifesaver! If the fallen skier is injured or unconscious, there’s no guarantee a ski-belt will keep his head above water. Use proper lifesaving devices when water skiing. • a • Side straddling and bow riding is a no-no, when your boat is under way. It’s not only frowned upon by marine law enforcement organizations, reminds the Evinrude News Service, it’s also a good way to end up short one passenger! Keep all persons seated inside the boat when moving—it’s just common sense! • • • A boater is legally responsible for the damage his craft’s wake does to other vessel!,. Remember this, the next time you “open her up” when leaving a protected marina or channel. Courtesy, common sense, and your depicted pocketbook should be strong deterents for any “cowboding” with your pleasure boat.
