14 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 4,1958 The senior class is sponsoring a back to school record hop with the aid of WOWO at the Milford community building on Friday. A new school bus has been added to the six buses already in use at Milford. The new bus driver will be Merle Campbell, Jr. Hard work and good marketing sense brought honor to Leon Tucker of Milford this week when he marketed 23 head of prime Angus steers tjhat sold at $28.50 per hundred weight. The town of Milford is busy at work in repairing some of the streets. Wayne Bucher was surprised Sunday afternoon to find a number of friends gathered at his home to honor his birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Plomer Michael and daughter spent the week end with their son, John Michael, and family at Royal Oak, Mich. Robert Ruch was involved in an accident on North Main street, Goshen, Friday. A card room will be opened in the near future by John Method in the building formerly occupied by the Milford Shoe Repair Service. There will be a meeting September 10 at the Bethel Church of the Brethren for mothers of kindergarten children. Rev. and Mrs. Glenn Grumbling and family attended the General Conference of the Brethren church at Ashland, Ohio, from August 18 to 24. 24 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 2,1948 Elmer Haab was injured Monday while working on his farm. A piece of rusty wire hit him in the eye lacerating the white of the eye. The Cecil Food Processing Company began production Monday noon in their new plant located in the northeast part of Milford. School bells will ring in Milford Friday morning early. Rev. and Mrs. W. I. Duker were in attendance at the Brethren conference held at Ashland, Ohio, last week. Mrs. Lark Becker was hostess at a shower given at her home Tuesday evening in honor of Miss Pat Stookey who will be married to Gene L. Hamman on September 19. Sharon Saylor, 5, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Saylor, submitted to a tonsillectomy Monday at the Syracuse hospital. Miss Nancy Campbell, riding a horse owned by Bill Sloan, won second prize in class for ladies at the Elkhart county horse show held Sunday on the Jim Field farm, six miles north of Goshen. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pyle attended the marriage of their niece, Miss Martha Brumfiel and Robert Tieman at Richmond. 30 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 3,1942 The United Brethren conference will be held Sunday at Oakwood Park, Wawasee Lake. The Contract Bridge club’s annual luncheon was held at one o’clock Thursday at the SpinkWawasee hotel, Lake Wawasee. The United Brethren parsonage in Syracuse was the setting for the ceremony uniting in marriage Miss Laura Louise Kettring and Albert Henry Bird on Monday evening. Rev. Marion O. King, Methodist minister, this week is attending the School of the Prophets at Purdue university. A farewell party was held Sunday at Pinkerton’s landing on Dewart Lake for Walter Hoover who was inducted into the army Wednesday. Last Sunday evening after services the members and friends of the Bethel church gave a farewell to Rev. Theodore Miller and family in the basement of the church. Mrs. Glenn Price went to Louisville, Ky., to visit her husband, Pvt. Glenn Price, who is stationed at Fort Knox. Mrs. Victor H. Fuller was hostess at the regular meeting of the Home Arts club Tuesday afternoon. Next Sunday morning at the morning worship hour the Milford Christian church will dedicate new Christian and American flags to be placed in the church chancel. Due to the present difficulties in transportation, the annual meeting of the Indiana Library association has been transferred from Elkhart to Indianapolis. Emmajean and Darlene Neff entertained Sue Tom in their home at dinner Sunday. 40 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 1,1932 Mrs. John Homan had a narrow escape last week when a shot from a rifle or revolver went through a door on their bam very close to where she was standing. A surprise birthday dinner was given Sunday at the home of Mrs. Sarah Smith in honor of her 71st birthday. The last band concert of the season will be held next Saturday evening. Charles Bushong, who has been making the traffic survey on roads of this vicinity, reports that someone shot at him on his way home from Milford last week. A stockholder in the local shirt factory was in town Friday getting some merchandise. Every night this week will be bargain night at Tippecanoe. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bushong and family spent a part of last week with the Guy Fisher family. The third annual Milford ladies’ day was celebrated Wednesday at the Tippecanoe Lake Country club. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Barnes and son spent Sunday afternoon in Michigan. Camp Mack closed their summer season at the camp on Waubee Lake last week and Mr. and Mrs. Shultz returned to North Manchester. The rain which fell on Milford and vicinity early Friday morning saved many of the crops.
