Warriors Scoreless At Jamboree, Show Signs Os Promise In 1972
-Members of the Wawasee Warrior football team did not score in Saturday night’s preseason jamboree but showed promises of an exciting season to come for Warrior fans. The jamboree was held at North Wood’s Memorial field. Plymouth and North Wood were the 27-0-victors over Wawasee and Lakeland. Plymouth is the defending Northern Lakes

Myers scored on a 55-yard run against Lakeland in the first period and returned Wawasee’s second half kickoff 80 yards in 11 seconds for a touchdown. end and getting a tremendous down field block from teammate Jim Long. Drive Halted Wawasee had one drive halted by a fumble which was recovered by North Wood. The Warriors were halted late in the quarter when time ran out in the half. They were on the nine yard line at the time. They threatened late in the third quarter when Mike Wollman intercepted a pa>s at the Pilgrim 32 yard line. Kim Cripe went 14 yards on the first play, however, the Warriors were thrown for a loss to the 23d and time ran out in the quarter. Sophomore quarterbacks Mark Smith and Rick Dahlstrom shared the duties during the evening with Dahlstrom seeing only limited action. Myers was the top ground gainer with 54 yards. Warrior Mike Vanlaningham, a five foot, 11 inch junior led the Wawasee team and finished second for the evening with 44 yards in 11 carries. Mike Abel of North Wood was third with 40 yards in nine carries.
It was in the third quarter that the Warrior defense began to click and the Rockies from Plymouth were thrown for three consecutive losses. North Wood and Lakeland failed to score in the final quarter. This Friday night all four teams will open their 1972 season with Wawasee playing host to West Noble, North Wood entertaining East Noble, Lakeland hosting Churubusco and Plymouth traveling to Columbia City.
