ItazNJO ABOUND Jgfer a !-■ *w II “I was really surprised'.” This comment came from pretty Lee Ann Willits when asked how she felt when she heard she was the new Kosciusko county fair queen. She was crowned late Saturday night, as a climax to the 56th annual county fair at Warsaw before a large crowd. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willits of r 4 Syracuse (Grand - View Drive, Lake Wawasee), Lee Ann is a s’£” honey blonde who weighs 110 pounds. She said she had nearly 1800 over her nett closest competitor. She was sponsored by the Syracuse-Wawasee Rotary club, but did most of the leg work herself, soliciting business houses, door-to-door, and even appeared at golf tournaments at area golf courses for her penny-a-vote support. The money received by the girls goes to the speech and hearing clinic. » * Lee Ann’s escort was Jay Jones. “The Pickwick Block will be completely rebuilt and ready for occupancy by June 1,1973: ” Tom Tuttle, member Syracuse Community Development Corp. Darrell Grisamer, NIPSCo employee, made his first parachute jump Saturday morning in 18 years. One of the new skydivers at Wawasee Airport, Darrell made 21 jumps in Korea and Japan in the early 1950’5, his last being in 1954. ■ 1 . Sw < Elmer Martin, r 4 Warsaw, auctioneer of wide reputation, figured prominently in the sale of 4-H livestock at the county fair for the past 15 years. However, he tells friends this is his last year at the 4-H auction. “We have to make way for some younger men coming up,” he says, but there will probably be a demand that he stay on. He wants it noted that he will continue as a private auctioneer. “I couldn’t give this up,” he notes. Max and Mary Ganshorn spent three weeks in Elmira, N. Y., where Max worked with HUD officials in placing mobile homes sent there from Monarch Industries.

After being home a short while, Max left again on Sunday for Elmira and Corning, N.Y., and Wilkes-Barre, Pa., doing similar work. Mary states 8,000 mobile homes arrived at Elmira and Coming during the week they ware there. Flood disaster victims get the mobile homes for a year, rentfree, then they can purchase them from HUD. The home recipients were victims of hurricane Agnes. Did you know that three North Webster young men, J. Brock Van Meter, Lynn Feller and Charles Fred Clark, Jr.„ have been chosen for inclusion in the 1972 edition of Outstanding Young Mai of America? The edition is scheduled for publication in November. Paul A. Billings is the energetic young man joining forces with Richard Ditmer and Glen Laramore at the Jones Agency. Mrs. H. A. Burson writes us, along with a newspaper clipping and picture in the June 23 issue of last year, identifying an individual at the gas pumps in front of the old King’s Grocery at Kale Island. The late Guy Hayes, an employee at the stere, was the individual at the pumps. Hie grocery was located, at the site of what is now the Kale Island Beacon. A young church group departed from Syracuse last Wednesday morning for an 18-day trip, nine days of which will be spent at the Grace Children’s hospital in Haiti and in visits to various missions in the area of Port O’Prince. Youths leaving by bus from Fort Wayne, en route to Florida to enplane were Melinda Napier and Robin Dust, sponsored by the Calvary United Methodist church youth fellowship. Chuck Rhoads of the same church who is making his second trip there, Sue Byland and Cynthia Hursey. They will be returning on August 26. Did you know Saint Martin de Porres was the patron saint of hairdressers? In Rome, over 2,000 happy hairdressers gathered for an audience with the Pope for kind words for their profession and patron saint, the 17th century Peruvian mulatto, Saint Martin de Porres, who had once been apprenticed to a barber. Said the Pope, “Saint Martin was an example to imitate, an encouragement to bring to your profession willingness and helpfulness with abundant opportunities to help many people recognize the goodness of God.” Chet and Carol Elder and Roger and Sandy Smith will take up this week end where they left off several weeks ago on a canoe
