By Rose Cunningham Sgt. Furkis To Germany U.S. Air Force master sergeant Peter J. Furkis, son of William Furkis, 407 McLean St., Ligonier, arrived at Wiesbaden A.8., Germany, for duty. Sergeant Furkis is a medical service account officer at the air force hospital. He previously served at Chanute AFB, 111., and completed 12 months duty in the - Republic of Korea. He is a 1948 graduate of Ligonier high school and attended Indiana university. Perry Township Homemakers Meet Wednesday Perry Township Homemaker’s Extension club met Wednesday afternoon at the community room of the bank. COMMUNITY NEWS Mrs. Ruth Hayes had as her guests last week her granddaughters, Anna and Patricia Lyon, of Green Castle. Anna, a senior at North Western university, recently returned from a six months study program in Greece and Patricia is a sixth grade student. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Caton of Goshen visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Dunlap on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. 0. R. Bangs had as their guests Sunday, Mr. Clare Bangs, Miss Faye Bangs and Mrs. Rex Bangs, of Churubusco. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Johnson of Cromwell have Joe Calbeck of Bradenton, Fla., visiting them. Mrs. Calbeck, who is visiting relatives in California, will join her husband later this month. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Victor Schlotterback and daughters are visiting in Ligonier. They brought Lt. Schlotterback’s mother, Mrs. Mary Schlotterback, home after she spent a week with them at their home in Dayton, O. James Chen of New York city has been visiting Miss Eva Cook. Thursday evening he took Rev. Yung S. Chen and family of Kendallville and Miss Cook to the Pagoda Inn at Goshen for dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Targgart of Phoenix, Ariz., are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Targgart. B I I ' \ I. 1 X COMPLETES BASIC — Airman Robert A. Brandenburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold G. Brandenburg of r 2 Pierceton has completed air force basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. During his six weeks training, he studied the air force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. The airman is remaining at the air training command base for specialized training in the security police field. Airman Brandenburg is a 1972 graduate of Whitko high school, South Whitley.

New Salem By MRS. HERB MOREHOUSE GUEST SPEAKER ON SUNDAY Jay Standland of Albion was guest speaker during the morning worship service Sunday. He was representing the Gideon Society. Mrs. Larry Summy and daughters Sara and Rachel sang “Sing” and were accompanied by Miss Elaine Kilver. Sunday evening singspiration was led by Max Shively. Pat Speicher was guest speaker and showed slides of his trip to the Orient representing World Vision International. - NS—CORN ROAST HELD MONDAY Between 60 and 70 persons attended the com roast Monday evening on the river bank at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs Max Shively and Doug. The Shivelys live south of Leesburg. —NS—HELPING HANDS HAVE SPEAKER Mrs. Dave Beer was guest speaker at the Helping Hands meeting Tuesday night at the church. Mrs. Beer explained their service on the mission field near Levelock, Alaska. Mrs. Beer and daughter, Gloria Dawn, and her father, Arthur Horein plan to fly to Alaska Tuesday where they will join Rev. Beer, Mrs. Horein and other relatives. Mrs. Robert Hurd was in charge of the business meeting. Mrs. Edna Tom led in devotions and read from I John 5:1-11. She also read a poem “I Understand.” Mrs. Lydia Morehouse led in prayer. Senior Citizens Enjoy Tour The Milford Senior Citizens visited the Honeywell Gardens at Wabash on Sunday, Aug. 13. Twenty-eight members and guests enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park there and toured the rose gardens and other parts of the park. They also visited a boat launching site on Salamoni River and the Salamoni Dam. The next meeting will be on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. and will be a luncheon consisting of sandwiches and a salad bar with slides to be shown by Mr. and Mrs. Arch Baumgartner. An invitation for a bus tour to die Indiana State Fair on August 24 has been received from the New Paris Senior Citizens club. Dick Kessie and Dave Everts were honored with the birthday song. A good report was given on the com and sausage roast. Lorin Badskey gave a fine report on the Career Camp. The third annual graduation was held last week. Mr. Badskey reported that in addition to the boys, their families, Kiwanians and state police in attendance comprised a large attendance at the graduation. He also stated that superintendent Robert Konkle said the Indiana State Police ranked third in the world in law enforcement, just below Scotland Yard and the Candian Royal Mounted Police. Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Ferguson are cousins. Herman Cline is a patient in the Robert Long hospital, Indianapolis. Tune Os The Blooms' The annual flower show of the Syracuse-Wawasee Garden club will beheld on Thursday, Aug. 24, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Wawasee high school. Theme of the show is “Tune of the Blooms.” Persons interested in altering the show may do so by contacting any member of the club or Mrs. Harry Appenzeller, chairman of the show, regarding rules and divisions. The show is open to the public. Past Presidents* Parley Has Annual Picnic Dinner The Past Presidents’ Parley of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 226 of Milford met for their annual picnic dinner on August 9 at the Waubee Lake cottage home of Mrs. Eugene Felkner. Eleven members and two guests, Mrs. Oliver Replogle and Mrs. Esther Poynter, were present. The evening was spent visiting and playing games. Homemade ice cream, made by Mrs. Noble Fisher, and homemade cookies were served by Mrs. Felkner before the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be with president Mrs. Worth Jackson on October 11 at her country home.

Zion Chapel Is Setting For Morse-Hall Vows

The Zion Chapel church south of Syracuse was the scene of the lovely 2 o’clock wedding on Sunday, Aug. 6, uniting in marriage Miss Beverly Morse and Harvey Hall. Pastor Chester Reed officiated for the double ring ceremony, in the presence of 50 guests. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Smith of Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hall, North Webster. Mrs. Sherman Deaton supplied the appropriate piano selections. The bride, given in marriage by her father, appeared in a full length A-line gown of silk organza featuring an Empire waistline encircled with a white satin ribbon and accented by a front bow. Venice lace daisy appliques enhanced the sheer sleeves and Madrid neckline. Lace daisy appliques also accented the bodice, formed a design down the gown front and encircled the hemline. She wore a sheer picture hat edged with Venice lace daisy appliques and trimmed with a white satin ribbon, bow, and long streamers at the back, and caught to a detachable cathedral length veil of bridal illusion. She carried a bouquet of daisies. Mrs. Bea trie Caudill served her sister as maid of honor. Miss Della Rai Morse, another sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. They were attired in gowns of blue taffeta, princess style, and carried arrangements of daisies.
