YEARS AGO, AUG. 14,1958 Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hartter will observe their golden wedding anniversary at their home on Sunday, Aug. 24, at an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Rev. and Mrs. Glenn Grumbling and family will attend the National Conference of the First Brethren church at Ashland, Ohio, August 18 through 24. The Kirkdoffer-Dausman family reunion was held Sunday at the Dewart Lake roller rink with over 100 guests present. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Krick are the parents of a daughter, Sherrie Lynn; Mr. and Mrs. Hazel Vanlaningham are the parents of a daughter, Amy Sue; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Amott are the parents of a son, Gregory Allen. Mrs. Katie Chupp, son, Edward, son-in-law, Sam Miller, and a cousin have returned home after a three week vacation trip through several western states. Delegates Mrs. Ralph Berkeypile and Mrs. Worth Jackson returned home Sunday after attending the department convention of the American Legion Auxiliary. The 56th Harlan reunion was held Sunday at Camp Mack with forty members and four guests attending. Milford groceryman John Augusburger, Jr., was part of a group picture appearing on the cover of the July issue of IGA’s Grocergram. The Milford public library tax rate for the coming year will be increased two cents. Mr. and Mrs. Randall Dewart are making an addition to their West Emeline street home. 24 YEARS AGO, AUG. 12,1948 A novelty in sports is coming to Milford’s West Side park next Wednesday evening in the form of a donkey baseball game. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Homan celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday at their Waubee Lake home. Lloyd Luon received a trophy for being high point man in the outboard motor boat race on the Saint Joseph river at North Merryfield Park, Mishawaka. The Kosciusko county 40 and 8 Voiture is sponsoring a fish fry at the Kosciusko county fairgrounds Friday, Aug. 20. Guests of Dr. and Mrs. Vern Stockberger at Waubee Lake Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Gridley and son, Bruce. Mrs. Howard Poe gave a birthday dinner in honor of her daughter, Joy, Wednesday evening at the Wayne Bucher home. Mrs. John Clause fell on the steps of her Waubee Lake cottage, breaking a small bone in her right foot. Mrs. Willis Wuthrich writes to Milford friends that they have moved from Silver Lake to their new home on Illinois Rd., Fort Wayne. The Happy-Go-Lucky 4-H club and their leader, Mrs. Herman Miller, were guests of the Busy Homemakers club at the home of Mrs. Robert Hollar. Numerous applications have been received by township trustee John F. Augsburger to fill the vacancy of teacher and coach in the Milford school. Twenty-two veterans of the Farm Training class with their families and friends had a pleasant outing at Camp Mack Friday evening.

30 YEARS AGO AUG. 13,1942 A large crowd of friends and relatives from near and far attended the golden wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Fuller at the Christian church last Thursday evening. Mrs. Mable Clause entertained her contract bridge club last Thursday afternoon at her home. Carl LeCount entertained the young people’s Sunday school class of Concord Friday evening in honor of Ray Buhrt, who leaves for the army soon. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bucher, Mrs. Willard Conn and Mrs. Sherman coin returned Wednesday evening from a 1,700 mile trip to Camp Crowder, Mo., to visit with Mrs. Willard Conn’s husband. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Grove and daughter, Mary Jane, of South Bend and Mr. and Mrs. 0. D. Grove of Milford have returned from a trip to Hartford City and Indianapolis. A display of pictures of all our boys in the service is being arranged by Miss Corabeile Hastings and the Milford Drug Co. has donated a window for this display. Twenty-six members of the young adult class of the Methodist church met at theitoy Treesh cottage on Waubee Lake last Thursday evening. Mrs. Bertha Wehrly will present her piano pupils at a public recital Friday evening at the Milford Bethel church. Ten girl friends surprised Miss Susan Closson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Closson, Saturday afternoon at a birthday party. Susan celebrated her eighth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Rodibaugh visited Mrs. Rodibaugh’s mother, Mrs. Martha Mishler, Saturday evening. 40 YEARS AGO, AUG. 11,1932 The 12th annual reunion of the Master family will be held at the New Paris school grounds. Last week thieves entered the ice cream factory at Syracuse and stole five gallon cans of ice cream. The Leesburg baseball team played \the Milford Specials at West Sfde Park Sunday and beat them by a score of 3 to 1. Jim Refer, a fanner south of Milford, killed a large badger last week. The badger was cornered in a field nearby his house by the dog. One of the largest camps that has ever been held convened at Camp Mack Sunday. The attendance at the band concert Saturday evening was the largest of the season. C. E. Brown of Dewart Lake won the high score for men at the dinner-bridge which was held at Tippecanoe Country Club Thursday. Postmaster Barnes submitted to a tonsil operation Wednesday of last week at the Elkhart hospital. The WMS meeting of the Grace church was held Thursday at the home of Mrs. George Ogden when a picnic dinner had its place on the program. A number of Milford people attended the farm bureau picnic held in Goshen Thursday. Jessie McDonald returned home Sunday after a five day visit with Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Green of Ligonier.
