4-H Model Rocketry Club

By KEITH CARRINGTON Area Extension Agent, Youth Today in our space-age society it is a good idea for everyone to know more about the subject of rocketry and jet propulsion. 4-H is trying to help youth with this. The 4-H model rocketry club meets once a month either for a regular meeting, where tips on preparing your rocket and various proceedures are discussed or to have a rocket launch. The last launch was at the Richard Neer farm south east of Leesburg. There were eight members present on July 9, to participate in over 50 launches. During Hie afternoon there was both happiness and heartaches. It is always a happy and exciting moment when your rocket, that you have put together and worked so hard to finish, zooms off the launch pad and high into the sky. Os course not all the rockets zoom as high as others. One rocket in particular only went 17 feet but others went in excess of 1,000 feet. The heartaches come with the losing of your rocket which sometimes happens. Although there are problems
