14 YEARS AGO, JULY 24,1958 Don Cecil of Cecil Foods, Inc., announced this week that the local tomato canning factory expected to get under operation about August 11. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon May and sons, Ronn and Donn, returned home Tuesday from a trip through the northeastern states and along the east coast. The Milford Christian church will hold open house Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Judy Ahrns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald B. Ahrns, will represent Milford in the 1958 Kosciusko County Fair Queen contest. Captain and Mrs. Lue Hall and family of Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y., spent from Friday until Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kasper. The Nickler-Caris reunion was held at the American Legion building Sunday at Nappanee. A partnership medical between Dr. Floyd L. Rheinheimer, M.D. and Dean R. Bahler, M.D., Leesburg, will combine the Milford-Leesburg areas beginning August 4, 1958. Milford Lions heard a talk by John Askew, a NIPSCo representative, on the importance of modem electrical machinery to the nation’s security. Dr. Lloyd Smith, son of Rev. and Mrs. W. Harlan Smith, has opened an office in North Manchester, 1118 N. Wayne St. The 43rd reunion of the Daniel Beer family will be held on Sunday; August 10. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bushong and Jeanie of Kokomo spent the week end visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fuller. 24 YEARS AGO, JULY 22,1948 Mrs. Byron Ulrich who took a five-week intensive course in vocational home economics training at Ball State at Muncie has received her degree. Delbert Dippon has been seen driving a new Futuramic Oldsmobile around town. Miss Ann Beer was the guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Carl Frautchi of Goshen. R. E. Slabaugh announced on Tuesday that the bins of the Milford Grain & Milling Co. were filled to capacity and that he was forced to direct local farmers to neighboring mills to store their grain. BIRTH: Mr. and Mrs. William Cain are the parents of a daughter, Senora Sue, born July 14. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cain. Joseph Wiley, who has been with the American Embassy at Cairo, Egypt, is expected home soon.

Miss Jean Good returned home Friday from a two week trip in the west. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hollar of the Hastings vicinity have announced the engagement of their daughter, Noma Jean, to Jackie Lamar Miller. Max L. Miss Margaret Vanderveer and Miss June Coy were Thursday evening guests at the Robert Kaiser home. Randall Dewart is taking a week’s vacation. Harry Graham is working at the Liberty Coach trailer factory at Bremen. Rev. Walter W. Krider, who recently went to Washington, D.C., to take up work in the intelligence dept., spent Friday through Tuesday of this week with his family. The Queen Esther society met at the home of Miss Louise Locke on Tuesday evening of last week. Mrs. Gale Green and daughter and Miss Glesna Blosser spent the past week at Wichita Falls, Texas, with Cadet Herman Green. The 19th annual reunion of the Estep family will be held Sunday at the Warsaw city park. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Farrington and son visited the Harry Good family Sunday. BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Dale Goppert are the parents of a daughter born Sunday; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hollar are the parents of a son born July 20. Mrs. Harry Graham and Mrs., Orville Orn went to Knightstown over the week end. Mrs. Charles .Davy of New York state, the former Erma Augspurger of Milford, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Edna Fuller, and other relatives. 40 YEARS AGO, JULY 21,1932 All banks of Kosciusko county closed at noon Wednesday for an outing held at Winona Lake. State road 6 is now open bet- < ween road 15 and Nappanee. Wednesday night of last week the third band concert was given in Milford and a larger crowd attended than any other night so far. Everett Closson recently played a matched game of golf at Soutfi Bend and made a score of 69. The Gem theatre quit business last week and will not reopen this summer. Thirty-four leaders of the home economic clubs in this county ■ attended a meeting held in Warsaw Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Theo Beer entertained at a dinner on Sunday for her sister and for their uncle and aunt. The Callander Dairy of Milford has opened a milk route in Nappanee and will place their products on sale there. The Merry Jane club met with Mrs. M. D. Chatten Friday evening with nine members and one guest present. Dr. H. C. Snyder and family are spending this week at Lake Wawasee. A number of people from Milford motored over to Oakwood Park, Lake Wawasee, Sunday to attend the opening services of the rural mail carriers convention. Mary Helen Stuckman spent Friday night with her grandparents in Gravelton.
