Fireworks Display Set For Syracuse A gigantic fireworks display has been set for Syracuse city park on Tuesday, July 4, at dark, according to Chet Elder, president of the Chamber of Commerce, the sponsoring organization for the event. With no program previously planned for the community due to lack of funds and community interest for funding, Elder added his appreciation to John Kroh and Tom Prickett for taking over for the event and craning up with double the amount of funds anticipated. Elder added that the display should be "one of the best ever.” Treesh Awarded Grant For Research Michael I. Treesh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen L. Treesh, Milford, has been awarded a grant by the Society of Sigma XI for the encouragement of scientific research. The grant is to assist Michael in his doctoral research of sedimentology and depositional history of the Salina group of New York state. Next year Michael will receive a Ph.D. in geology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, N. Y. He is living at 22 N. Drive, Troy, N. Y., with his wife, the former Nancy Ahms. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ahms, Milford, and two sons, Erik, 3, and Ryen, 6 months. Fellowship Class Meets At Priddy Home Tuesday The Fellowship class of the Syracuse Church of God met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Vivian Priddy with Mrs. Walter Williams opening the meeting by scripture of Timothy 1-6. Rev. Williams led in prayer and Mrs. Williams gave a reading on Super Star. Several games were played by the eight members in attendance and Rev. Victor Yeager dismissed with prayer. Mrs. Helen Richcreek will be hostess for the July 18 meeting. SIRI FAMILY VISITING IN AREA The Louis Siri family of Shorewood, Wis., is visiting in the Lyle Seiffert home at Lake Wawasee and George Hay, 111, home at Goshen, until the week end. They were called to the area after the auto accident of Mr. Siri’s daughter, Sylvia, of Goshen who has been removed from intensive care at Goshen hospital and the death of his father, Joseph Siri, of Mishawaka. Funeral services for Mr. Siri were held Tuesday. No Injuries In One-Car Crash An auto driven by Norma L. Rodgers? 46. r 3 Warsaw, ran off Armstrong road, two miles east of Leesburg, Friday night in a single car accident. The auto was eastbound on Armstrong road at the time of the mishap. Damage was listed to the left front fender and both front tires ol the Rodgers auto.

WORK ON BOATING CERTIFICATES — At 7:30 tonight (Wednesday) the third two-hour session of instructions will be given at the Lakeland Youth Center in Syracuse to boys and girls under 14 years of age on boating safety measures. Previous sessions were held June 20 and June 22. with 54 young folks signed up for the course. The session tonight will be a review and examination, and those who have passed the six-hour course will receive certificates signed by Ted Null, superintendent of enforcement of the department of natural resources. The certificates will allow bearers to operate boats with engines of 10 and over horsepower, according to a new start law to be promulgated before the summer is out. Meloy School Reunion Held At Orn Home The 16th annual Meloy school reunion was held Sunday, June 25, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Om of Milford. There were 11 in attendance for the dinner and the rest of the day was spent visiting and reminiscing about past school days. The reunion will be held next year on the fourth Sunday of June at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Stutzman of Milford. VISIT BROTHER LN ILLINOIS HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. Robert Plank, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Kauffman and Forrest Plank, all of Syracuse, spent Friday and Saturday in Rockford, Hl., visiting the latter’s brother and wife, the Lester Planks. Mr. Plank, a native of Syracuse, is a patient at Saint Anthony’s hospital, room 403. Miss Jan Plank and Miss Rose Calbeck of Syracuse also visited the Planks during the week end. HONORED ON BIRTHDAY A dinner was held last week fra Miss Kellie Coy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward T, Coy, Jr., of Highland, in honor of her first birthday. The dinner was held in the Richard Coy home at Syracuse. Others attending from Syracuse were Ricky and Robby Coy and Harry E. Coy. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Leedy, Caryl and Lori Coy, and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hamman and Robin of North Webster, and Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Gray of Churubusco. What we learn from the past is that we never learn from the past.

Midwest Junior Golf Camp At Prep

With a forecast of warmer weather, young golfers from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana registered for Wawasee Prep’s third Midwest National Junior Golf camp this past Sunday. Many of the campers will be at the Prep fra two weeks of, instruction from young PGAer Gary Geiger Wawasee Golf club assistant pro. Argos Giant Fourth-A-Bration In Full Swing The Argos area chamber of commerce announces it’s bigger ,and better third annual week long Fourth-A-Bration festivities June 26 thru July 4. Os great interest to the area is the 12 team mini-league all star invitational baseball tournament. Teams are entered from LaVille, Plymouth, Leesburg, Triton, Mentone. Pierceton. Nappanee, O. Davis, Argos. North Webster, Walkerton and Culver. The games started on Monday evening of this week and will continue thru the championship and consolation games on the afternoon of the fourth. Also beginning this week is the first of two all-sports camps for young boys interested in many different sprats such as golf, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, football, soccer, baseball, aquatics, water skiing and horseback riding. The second week of all-sports will begin July 3. Registration can be made with coach Jones at the Prep. In addition, Mrs. Jerry (Sue) Ganshorn of Syracuse is providing the expert instruction in gymnastics and swimming for the young girls. These sports areas are offered in the afternoon to both the girls and boys. —

carnival will be in full swing fra the kiddies starting at noon each day. The American legion will hold a chicken bar-b-que each of these days at the noon meal. On the evening of the third the Argos United Methodist church will hold an ice cream social. Also on that evening a basketball tourney will start and the finals will be held on the evening of the fourth. The parade will be held at 6 p.m. on the third and Dr. Otis Gowen, gubernatorial candidate, will be the grand marshall. The garden tractor pull with classes fra male and female will be held at 2 p.m, on the fourth. An art exhibit will be held from two to four on the fourth also. The Fourth-A-Bration will end with a giant fireworks display on the fourth around 10 p.m. The real test of business greatness lies in giving opportunity to others.
