Webster Youth Killed In farm Accident Funeral services were held Monday morning for John Charles Voland. 14, r 1 North Webster, who fell from the tongue of a hay wagon and sustained fatal injuries Friday while Visiting at the home of his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs Fred Johnson at Elkhart, Hl. The youth, a sixth grader at the North Webster school, was born in Warsaw August 6, 1957, and /esided with his father and stepmother, John Albert and Linda (Frushour) Voland, r 1 North Webster He lived all his life in the Syracuse and North Webster areas and attended the Mock Christian church. In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister Laquita, 7i half-sister, Melissa, both at home; one step-brother, Timothy of Elkhart, 111., maternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harting of Marion, and Charles Schultz. Elkhart, Ill.; and paternal grandparents. Mr and Mrs Charles Williams of North Webster. Burial was in the Mock addition Harry Brinkmann Funeral services were held Saturday for Harry Brinkmann. 88, of Los Angeles. Calif., and Syracuse resident from 1923 until 1937 He passed away on June 20 in Los Angeles following an extended illness Mr. Brinkmann was born in Hanover, Germany, on June 5. 1884 His wife, the former Frieda , Wolf, preceded him in death on November 13. 1956 The Brink manns owned and operated a store and bake shop on the north shore of Wawasee for a number of years Survivors include one daughter. Greta Hofmann of Los Angeles; a son. Kurt. Chicago, *111.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren Burial was in Syracuse cemetery

Lloyd R. Mauk Lloyd R. Mauk, 50, Etna, brother of Harold E. Mauk of Milford, passed away at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the Whitley County hospital, Columbia City. Death was due to complications following an illness of 10 years. Mr. Mauk was born June 3,1922 to Leslie R. and Carrie P. (Frantzi Mauk at Cumberland, Md. He was united in marriage to Helen Creviston on August 5,1955 and she survives. He had resided at Etna for the last 16 years' where he was a painter and interior decorator. Surviving with the widow and brother are two sons. Lawrence and Lewis, both at home; one sister, Mrs. Marian G. Berkowitch. Miami Beach, Fla.; and one other brother. Milton L. of Warsaw. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at an Etna church with Rev. Roy Hollopeter officiating Burial was in the Thom cemetery at Ormas. Lloyd D. Bolinger Services were held Saturday for Lloyd D. Bolinger, 51, 218 Klingerman avenue, Churubusco, and stepbrother of Mrs Evelyn Day. Syracuse. Death was due to complications following a heart attack on June 3. at Whitley county hospital, Columbia City. He was born on August 11. 1920 in Wells county to Jesse and Emma (Witzgall) Bolinger and was united in marriage to the former Norma Miller on .November 16, 1946 Mr Bolinger was a veteran of WW 11, serving three years m the European theatre and was a member of the South Whitley VFW. He was employed at Penn-Central railroad for 35 years In addition to the widow and stepsister, he is survived by one son, Ronald, at home; five daughters. Mrs Steven Thurston and Mrs Donald Kirkpatrick, both of Churubusco. Miss Carolyn, Miss Marcia and Miss Mary Lou Bolinger, all at home; one grandchild, one brother and five sisters including Mrs Carl Smith of Warsaw; and one stepbrother Burial was at Ossian. John E. Boyts Funeral services were held Tuesday at Goshen for John E. Boyts, 91, a former South Shore Inn operator at Syracuse for over 30 years He died Friday at the Peterson nursing home, Goshen, following failing health for several years. Mr Boyts also operated the Vawter Park hotel at Lake Wawasee for a number of years
during the summer months and had hotel or apartment interests in Florida during the winer months. The builder of South Shore in 1919 following the burning of the Vawter hotel in 1918, Mr. Boyts continued to operate South Shore Inn until selling it to Jap Jones in 1943. He was also a home builder in the Goshen area and operated a restaurant business in Goshen. A native of Hume, Mo., he was bom on January 20, 1881 to Joseph and Caroline (Loterer) Boyts. His wife, the former Zula Eckelbarger. to whom he was married in 1902, died in 1962. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and Goshen Masonic lodge, having received his 50-year pin in 1964. Survivors include two granddaughters, both of Fla.; five great-grandchildren; and several cousins. A son Eugene preceded him in death. George (Jake) Doty George H. (Jake) Doty, 74, r 1 Syracuse, died suddenly on Tuesday, June 27, at 5 p m He was found in his home by a neighbor. Cause of death was coronary occlusion Mr. Doty had lived in Syracuse for 30 years. He was a retired brick mason. He was born at Milford, February 22, 1898 to Alonzo and Cora (Huffman) Doty. Survivors include three brothers, Harry Doty, Milford, Dwight Doty, Bonita Springs. Fla., Roy Doty, Fond Du Lac, Wise ; two sisters, Mrs Lulu Felkner, Milford, and Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Young, Peru. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Mishler funeral home, Milford, is in charge of arrangements and friends may call there after 1 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the funeral home. Columbia City, this week Mrs Robert Dean of Syracuse is convalescing at her home following a ten-day hospital stay and will enter Elkhart hospital in several weeks for back surgery. Mrs. J. B. Ridgeway of Syracuse was dismissed Sunday from Saint Joseph hospital in South Bend following major surgery and Mr. Ridgeway remains a patient at the Saint Joseph hospital, room 624, where he suffered a stroke while visiting his wife. Mrs Ridgeway’s sister, Mrs. Carl Dorsey of Urbana. Ohio, is assisting in the Ridgeway home. Remember the good old days when it was people that were cooperative instead of apartment houses?

She asks custody of three minor children. -- BIRTHS Linda Ann Benning Arrives Special Delivery Mr. and Mrs. David Benning of r 1 Milford were on their way to the Elkhart hospital last Friday when the baby they were expecting decided to arrive. The baby was born special delivery by her father south of Elkhart around 12:05a m. on June 23. The infant, a girl, is the third child in the Benning family. She tipped the scales at seven pounds, six and one half ounces when she weighed in at the Elkhart hospital shortly after her arrival. Linda Ann was the name chosen for here. Linda Ann has one brother, Michael, 7. and one sister. Karen 34. Maternal grandfather is Peter Konen and paternal
grandmother is Mrs. Arline Gorman, both of Detroit, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dombroski, also of Detroit, are the greatgrandparents. MUSSELMAN, Teresa Lynn Mr. and Mrs. Terry Musselman of r 1 Milford became parents of an adopted daughter, Teresa Lynn, on Wednesday, June 21. Teresa Lynn tips the scales at nine pounds and measures 20 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James Reed of Dewart Lake and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Musselman of r 1 Milford. Greatgrandparents are Mrs. Cecil Casper of South Bend and Mrs. Mary Reed of Bremen. CRIPE, Lori Ann Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Cripe of Syracuse are the parents of their first child, a daughter. Lori Ann, born Sunday, June 25 at 7:23 a m. at the Goshen hospital. BARN DESTROYED — Syracuse firemen responded to a call at 2 a.m. Monday for a barn fire at the Robert Strieby farm located six miles east of Syracuse on US 6 in Elkhart county, Benton township. The barn was engulfed with flames when firemen arrived. Syracuse fought the blaze until Benton firemen arrived. A plow was also destroyed in the fire. No damage estimate was given to date for the fire of unknown origin. A Syracuse police photo.

Parked Vehicles Hit In Separate Accidents Two separate mishaps to parked vehicles occurred at Syracuse Monday afternoon with minor damage totaling $125. The first mishap was at 2:50 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of East Main street as Miriam L. Orten, 27, 219 North Harrison street, Syracuse, pulled her van type vehicle from the curb and caught the bumper area of the parked car belonging to Nancy Jo Gray, 34. r 1 Warsaw. The other mishap occurred at 5:50 p.m. as an auto operated by Evelyn R. Messmann of r 3 Syracuse backed from a parking space at Augsburger’s Food Palace south of town bumping a parked vehicle belonging to Vicki L. Myers, also of r 3 Syracuse. Syracuse police investigated. Named To Dean's List Miss Rebecca Eyer of r 4 Syracuse has been named to the distinguished dean’s list at Purdue university where she will be a senior in the fall with a 5.8 grade index out of a possible 6.0 for the second semester. Becky is majoring in home economics vocational education and was recently initiated into Omicron Nu, the national home economics honorary. Receives Treatment For Hand Injury Miss Vicki Todd, 14-year-old daughter of Mrs. Chester Elder, Syracuse, sustained a severe cut to the hand Sunday in a dish washing mishap at the Elder home. She received emergency room treatment., at Goshen hospital requiring four stitches to close the wound. DOUG CHARLTONS ENTERTAIN FOR EDGAR SMITHS Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Charlton of Dewart Lake and their daughters. Kim and Karyl, entertained for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Smith on Sunday. The Smiths are former Dewart Lake residents and now make their home in Lake Placid, Fla. Also honored was Miss Kathy Weldy of Sebring, Fla., who is Mrs. Charlton’s niece. Those enjoying the day together were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Buell, Union City, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Stan Moore and family of Athens, Mich.; Miss Kathy Hill, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Mrs. Dorothy Grossman, Centreville. Minor Damage In Auto Mishap Approximately SSO in damage was estimated at 3:15 p.m. Saturday as a 1971 Pontiac driven by Mrs. Iva O. Scott of 318 E. Boston, Syracuse, swerved her auto on the Syracuse-Milford road and struck a Chinese elm tree at the roadside. Mrs. Scott reported to officers that she swerved her auto to avoid hitting an auto backing from a private drive and driver of the other vehicle left the s;ene of the accident. Syracuse police investigated. Enters Guilty Plea On Drugs John Brown Christian, 23, r 3 Syracuse, entered a plea of guilty last week to a charge of unlawful possession of a dangerous drug and will be sentenced in Kosciusko superior court on July 7. < A second charge of possession of instruments used for smoking of a dangerous drug were dismissed. Christian was arrested by Syracuse police on March 31 and taken to the county jail. He was later released on SI,OOO bond. Town Purchases Dump Truck During a special session last week, the Syracuse town board of trustees awarded a lease purchase option for a 26,000 pound gross vehicle heavy duty dump truck for the town of Syracuse to Delagrange Ford Sales, Inc., New Haven, with a low bid of $7,145.32. Pelivery date is to be within 45 to 60 days. EO3 Denpis Newcomer Stationed In Thailand EO3 Dennis Newcomer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zimmerman of r 1 Milford, is currently stationed in Thailand with the mobile construction battallion five of the Seabees. His wife, the former Nancy Wilson, and daughter Kimberly have returned to the Milford area from Port Hueneme, Calif., where Newcomer was previously stationed. Drugs are when you fly now and really pay later.
