Named To Property Owners Association Ronald Silveus, a resident of the Sunrise Beach area, Lake Wawasee, has been named a director of the Wawasee Property Owners Association to fill the term of the late Paul O. .Warnar. Warne, a forme president of the association, died in May. Other directors of the group are Harry E. Alfrey, Louis Craig, M.D. Umbaugh, Wiley Spurgeon, Jr., George Hetler, Karl Freese, Jr., Robert B. Area Students Graduate From Ferris State BIG RAPIDS, MICH. - Ferns State college granted degrees and certificates to a class of 1,870 students who had completed their programs of study in the summer, fall and winter terms, as well as in the spring quarter. Joseph P. Cosand, deputy commissioner for higher education, U.S. Department of Health Education, and Welfare, gave the commencement address praising the type of careeroriented programs Ferris offers and urging the graduates to involve themselves in community activities. Approximately 7,000 persons attended the event held in the Top Taggart field stadium. Among those receiving degrees and certificates were: Leesburg — AAS commercial art, Douglas D. Shively of r 1; Milford — Certificate, auto machine, Dennis L. Replogle; Syracuse — certificate, auto machine, Roger A. Butt, r 1. Elkhart County Traffic Safety Committee Meets There have been 17 fatal accidents in Elkhart county thus far this year, an increase of three from last year at this time, according to a report given at the June meeting of the Elkhart county traffic safety committee. Signal lights have been installed at the comer of SR 19 and CR 6 according to a spokesman, and also that plans have been made for construction of a booth to be used at the county fair. Donald Sheline of the Elkhart county highway garage has obtained the right-of-way measurements for walkways on county roads and Sgt. John E. Funk of the state police and Lt. Stanley Troyer, Elkhart police department, will be contacting property owners on donating the additioal land that is needed. Mrs. Thelma Nusbaum of the Elkhart county homemakers club is assisting Mrs. Kurts in the road inventory project and Sgt. Funk presented a highway safety brochure for review. The next meeting is set for 1:45 p.m. on July 12 in the Dunlap branch of the First National Bank. Manchester Professor Regional Judge Doctor Charles D. Klingler, head of the Manchester college department of English, was appointed a regional judge in the NCTE achievement awards program for 1972. Announcement of the appointment was made by the National Council of Teachers of English. This nationally recognized competition, now in its fifteenth year, cites high school seniors for excellence in English and recommends them to colleges and universities for admission and financial aid. approximately 7,200 students are candidates for achievement awards in 1972.
