Milford Little League Report In the first game of Little League action last week the Reds topped the Sox 6-3 The winning pitcher was Rex Wuthrich. Doug Rassi took the loss for the Sox. In a high scoring game the Tigers pounced on the Cards for a 26-6 victory over the Cards. Peterson. John Beer helped the Reds to a 12-1 victory over the Twins by hitting a home run. Rex Wuthrich was the winning pitcher, and Randy Blackbum took the loss for the Twins. HOLE IN ONE AT W AW ASEE William H. Rex of Pierceton aced the second hole at Wawasee golf club over the week end for the third hole in one at the club this year. Rex was using a seven iron on the 140 par 3 second hole.
Insurance Agents Sponsor Junior Golf Tournament Junior golfers from Kosciusko county are entering the local qualifying round of the Indiana Insurance Youth Golf Classic to be held on June 26 at the Tippecanoe Lake Country club. Leesburg. It is being sponsored by the Independent Insurance agents of Kosciusko county and the National Association of Insurance Agents. This tournament is open to all male junior golfers who will not reach their 18th birthday before August 1,4972. Entry forms and complete information may be obtained from any high school golf coach, golf course pro or Big “I” insurance agent in this area. The three lowest sewers in the Kosciusko county tournament will advance to the Indiana state tourney of 36-holes at Purdue university’s south course on July 22 and 23. The three lowest scorers in the state tournament will advance to the 72-hold national tournament to be played on August 4,5, 7 and 8 at the Crestview Country club in Wichita. Kan. Craig Light, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Light of Warsaw, was one of three to qualify in Kosciusko county a year ago. then was one of three to qualify in the state tournament at Lafayette. He then competed in the national tournament at Rochester, N. Y., and was one of the 10 top young golfers in the nation. Amber Christiansen; low putts, Irene Benzenberg. Coaching Positions Are Filled At West Noble H. S. The West Noble school officials have announced the selections for their open coaching positions. Jerry Wellman has been named the new head baseball coach. Jerry has been assistant baseball coach under Roger Tuggle for the past two years. He is a graduate of Indiana State where he played baseball. Jerry is also assistant football coach at West Noble. Glen Hicks will be the head track coach. He has been assistant basketball coach at West Noble the past four years. Hicks is resigning his basketball position to allow more time to work on his masters degree. He was assistant track coach under Jerry Yoder this past season. Glen has been in the West Noble system six years. Rick Schaekel will be the new head basketball and assistant track coach. Rick will be coming to West Noble from North Salem high school, where he has coached basketball and baseball for the past two years. Prior to his coaching at North Salem, Rick coached at Pioneer and Lebanon. Jim Smoots will move into the school system to take assistant basketball and assistant baseball coaching positions. Jim received his bachelor degree from TriState in business. He finished his teaching license this past spring at Saint Francis college. Jim graduated from Wawaka high school which is now part of the West Noble School Corp. Jim McClellan will move to one of the high school assistant coaching positions in football. He served as junior high football coach at West Noble for the past three years. Last season his team was undefeated. Marvey Sponhauer is West Noble’s athletic director. Scramble Winners Listed At Wawasee Winners of the Saturday and Sunday scrambles at Wawasee golf course have been listed. They follow: Saturday scramble winners with a three under par 33 were Joe Schidel, Hazel Swihart and Gladys Cripe. In second place with 34 were Merrill Postma, Jim Tolliver and Doris Schidel. Winning Sunday’s scramble with 34 were Merrill Postma, Don Walburn, Rosemary Burkhart and Gladys Cripe. In second place, also with a 34, were Ron Everingham, Max Bodkin, Martha Walbum and Penny Cripe. The winning team won in a sudden death. _ Blind boogie results showed the following winners: Bob Fisher with 74, Dick Zollinger with 75, Guy Kilmer with 75 and Leon Stoltzfus with 71. Tin Whistle Played At South Shore Tin Whistle was the play for the day Tuesday for the ladies golf association at South Shore Golf club. First in the nine-hole play was Ann Gallahan; second, Eleanor Moots; and third, a three-way tie, Pearl Herrmann, Ginny Lamley and Eddie Neuhauser. In 18-hole play, first was Esther Stahley, second. Thelma Hattersley; third, tie, Lee Wake and Barbara Hulley; and fourth, Jo Waltz. Play next week will be the Land O’Lakes tournament at Rozella Ford, Warsaw. C. S. First Girls All-Sports Camp In Progress
The first Girls All-Sports camp at Wawasee Prep started last Sunday and will end with an awards banquet on Saturday with girls attending from Indianapolis. Muncie, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Syracuse and Albion, Mich. Girls range in ages from eight to 17. Instructions by professional trained instructors are being given in golf, tennis, gymnastics, aquatics, volleyball and basketball. Morning sessions include PGA Gary Geiger of Wawasee Golf club for assistance in golfing and Vince Romeo, tennis coach at the Prep, helping with tennis. Before lunch, girls have enjoyed the water activities of scuba diving, skiing and canoeing. have been working on gymnastics. This session has been divided into three stations: tumbling, balance beam and trampoline with the final session of the day providing the girls with instruction in the use of the waterfront equipment; scuba diving, canoeing, water skiing, and swimming. Co-ordinator for all waterfront activities during the summer is Tom Nova, WSI, from South Bend and Ball State. Head counsellor for the girls is Miss Marsha Strickler of Syracuse, a recent Wawasee high graduate, who also assists in the golf and tennis sessions. Director Jones is encouraged with the response to this first camp, adding it will undoubtedly become an important part of the total summer sports camps program. The camp for boys will start June 25 and July 2, with coach Jones in charge.
