Hurryin Hoosiers By J. Q. Fann INSIDE LINEBACKERS, 1972: Two men on the pro scouting list, two juniors to push them, a soph blue chipper, and a green freshman who was sought after by ev«y major school. One wary, Mike Fulk had knee surgery but it is apparently o.k. The pros are watching Fulk who, at 235 pounds, is big enough to go all the way. He has always been tabbed as a great one and the boy to put Russiaville on the map. Russiaville is near Kokomo but before Mike Fulk leaves school, Kokomo will be near Russiaville. This big, strong, fast, tough senior could be an AllAmerican. Beside him, making the one two middle linebacker punch anywhere, is Rob Spicer. He is a brother of former LU. wingback Doug Spicer but not related to the other two Spicers on the squad. Rob is 225 pounds and was one of our most consistant performers last year. He can be counted upon to get a lot of attention from the pros and even more from opposing blockers. I can’t say which is the better of the two but hope they stay so good no one can ever tell. Two juniors fighting to get to play is New Jersey All-Stater, Bruce Henderson, who was a demon as a freshman, got a nagging injury last year but who is back scrapping for a job. Walkon Jeff Barnett from North Manchester, Indiana is a redheaded man-o-war with football in his blood and blood in his eye. Jeff is up to number three man behind Fulk & Spicer and intends to stay there. He has great heart and smarts and if anything happens to one of the others he will be a capable replacement. These two plus John Kovatch give us depth at this spot. John Kovatch from Mishawaka was injured in the summer before the football season last fall and only got into one game and was too far out of shape to do the job his capabilities said but he worked his way up to a spot ahead of Henerson this spring. He was labeled a blue Deming, the trackster and all-around football player from Sandusky make our depth charts look good.
Tippy Ladies Day Play Play of the day Thursday for the Tippy Ladies Day association was best ball twosome with play in foursomes. Winners in class A were: Margaret Lancaster, low gross; Esther Brewster, low net; and Gloria Maish, low putts.
