•- L REV. ROSS COOK New Minister At Calvary Church Rev. Ross D. Cook, new minister of Calvary United Methodist church south of Syracuse, gave his first sermon at the church this past Sunday and will move his family into the church parsonage on June 8. A native of Miami county, Rev. Cook holds a BS degree from Manchester college and a bachelor of divinity degree from Evangelical Theological seminary. Naperville, 111. He has served as pastor of the United Methodist church at South Whitley for the past seven years His wife, Charlotte, holds a BS degree from Manchester college and received her masters from Saint Francis college. Fort Wayne She is a kindergarten teacher at Columbia City. They are the parents of three children. Rita, a 1972 graduate of Whitko high school, will attend Indiana Central college, Indianapolis. in the fall majoring in music, and will start her third season as organist at Oakwood Park for the summer worship schedule . Diane, a junior this fall at Wawasee high school, and she is also employed during the summer at Oakwood; and Gary, who will enter the seventh grade at Syracuse this fall. Data Given On County Sheriff's Boat In Use The county sheriff s boat was put into the waters of Lake Wawasee on April 29 and a total of 68 hours and 45 minutes were listed as in operation for the month of May A total of five boats were towed to local marinas when becoming stranded on the lake and 22 verbal yearnings given for violations plus one arrest for speeding. The warnings included expired registration, towing a surf board without observer, speeding too close to shore and riding on the bow of the boat. The boat was used to assist a stranded deer in the lake near the Eli Lilly property and one stolen boat was recovered and returned Three state police officers made a practice scuba dive from the boat and a demonstration of the facilities was given to 30 first aid students at Wawasee Prep Cycle-Truck Mishap Injures Two Youths The Syracuse area, plaqued by motorcycle mishaps during the past month, had another such mishap Saturday at the entrance to The Mariner a short distance southeast of Syracuse, giving minor injuries to the two youths on the cycle. Randy William Shipley, 15, r 2 Syracuse, driving a 1971 Kawaski owned by Harvey Mitchum of r 4 Syracuse and traveling east on the Pickwick road, told investigating officers he could not stop in time to avoid hitting the 1970 Ford truck operated by Robc.'t Derringer, 27, Indianapolis. who was attempting a right turn into the entrance of the drive-in. Young Shipley rammed into the rear of the truck owned by Boyles Landscaping. He sustained bruises and abrasions of the face, shoulder, chest, left knee and arm. His brother. Roger Ralph Shipley, 10, received a cut to the right little finger Both were treated by a local physician. Syracuse police listed damage at $35 to the truck and $250 to the motorcycle. Young Shipley was ticketed for no operator s license. FIREMEN RESPOND TO CAR FIRE Syracuse volunteer firemen responded to a call at 6:04 pm. \ Saturday for a car fire which Started due to a ca rbureator back fire The fire was extinguished as firemen arrived.
