Guidelines used by the selection committee in awarding this scholarship were athletic ability, scholastic ability, planning to attend college and the number of sports the student participated in as well as his attitude. Each coach was allowed to submit the name of one member of his team. Ummel participated in the swimming and golf events of the school and is in the upper 10 per cent of his class.

Wawasee Seniors Honored Following are graduation parties and receptions held following commencement exercises at Wawasee high school on Sunday. DENISE BROWN Denise Rae Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Brown, Wawasee Heights, Syracuse, was honored with a reception in the Brown home following graduation. JOHN AUER John Lee Auer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Auer, 131 West Boston street, Syracuse, was guest of honor at a buffet reception in the Auer home following graduation. SCOTT SHANNON Scott Grayling Shannon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shannon, r 3 Syracuse, was honored at a family reception following the Sunday graduation. LARRY DOWTY Larry Dean Dowty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Dowty, r 1 Syracuse, was honored following Sunday graduation, with a reception in the Dowty home. TERRY ALAN VANLANINGHAM Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vanlaningham, r 1 Milford, are the parents of Terry. A reception was held following graduation exercises on Sunday. Terry will be working this summer at Barth in Milford and attending Purdue university this fall where he will be taking up pre-veterinarian. NANCY LEE CROWL Nancy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Crowl of r 3 Syracuse. She was guest of honor at a reception held in the Crowl home following graduation Sunday. She will be working this summer and attending Ball State university this fall where she will be taking up studies to become a physical education teacher. KEITH HUNSBERGER Mrs. Richard Hunsberger is the mother of Keith and they reside at r 1 Milford. Keith was honored at a reception after graduation Sunday which relatives attended. Keith will be working as a mechanic at Cutter Chevrolet in Syracuse. DEVON E. SORENSEN Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Sorensen, 109 S. Henry, Milford, are the parents of Devon. A reception was held at the Sorensen home following graduation ceremonies Sunday. A small reception of relatives from Michigan and some friends followed graduation exercises on Sunday. David is going to work this summer and will either be going to Ohio Tech this fall or joining the armed forces. GLORIA JEAN MEHL Gloria is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mehl of r 1 Milford. A reception was held in her honor following the graduation exercise on May 28. Gloria’s parents, sister, Vicky, brother, Tommy, aunt and uncle and grandmother were in attendance. Gloria is currently working in the Dytronics office at Leesburg. The annual Wawasee high school awards program was held Friday with presentations being made in some 20 categories. Mrs. Maxine Robinson served as mistress of ceremonies for the occasion and Philip Fawley served as organist.
