OBITUARIES
David Eugene Rock Funeral services were held Saturday for David Eugene Rock, 26, New Paris and husband ***of Shirley Rock, Syracuse NIPSCo employee. He died at Elkhart hospital Thursday morning where he had been a patient for three days. Mr. Rock had been in failing health for about six weeks. A native of Goshen, he was xlharried to the former Shirley Etsinger on July 22, 1967. He was by Keene Products Company of Middlebury and was a veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, Union Center Church of the Brethren and New Paris Jaycees. In addition to the widow, he is survived by his father, Eugene Rock; mother, Mrs. Harriet Neff; two sisters. Miss Susan Rock and Miss Donna Rock; and a grandmother. Mrs. Ruth Rock, all of New Paris. ’*** Rev. E. Paul Weaver officiated for services and burial was in Union Center cemetery. Clarence F. Miller Clarence F Miller, 79. 639 ***North Jefferson St., Muncie, father of Mrs. Warren (Harriet) Rector of Leesburg, passed away at his home Tuesday morning. Death was due to an apparent heart attack. Mr. Miller was a well known grocer from 1933 to 1950 in the Muncie area where he moved in 1922 from Dunkirk He was bom August 26. 1892 in Jay county to and Minervp (Bickel) Miller His wife, Pearl, preceded him in death in May, 1970. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ. Moose Lodge No. 33. the Delaware American Legion Post No 19 and a veteran ** of World War I serving in the U.S. Army. Rector, Muncie. Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25. Burial was in the Elmridge cemetery at Muncie. Mrs. Aileen Parcell Mrs. Aileen G. (Poe) Parcell, 68, r 5 Elkhart, mother of Mrs. Wayne Bucher, Syracuse and Mrs. Delbert Dippon, Milford, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Elkhart hospital. She had been a patient there for one day. Mrs. Parcell was born April 16, 1904 at Barbee Lake and was united in marriage to Howard D. Poe in 1919. He preceded her in death on August 11,1958. She was married to Clifton R. Parcell on May 12, 1965 and he survives. Other survivors include two other daghters besides Mrs. Bucher and Mrs. Dippon. Mrs. James Barnes of Pontiac. Mich., and Mrs. Joy Neterer, Huntington; three stepsons. Ted E„ Ned D. and Dai A., all of Elkhart; one stepdaughter. Mrs. Max Lapan, Elkhart; 21 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren Funeral services were conducted at an Elkhart funeral homeat 2.30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Joseph Wagner officiated and burial was in the Milford cemetery Harriet F. Disher Mrs Vivin (Harriet Frances) Disher. 78. of r 2 Syracuse died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. May 27, in the Goshen hospital where she was admitted May 18. She had been in failing health for sanetime. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko county, Mrs. Disher w as bom September 12,1893 near Barbee Lake, the daughter of John and Ella (Willard) Kuhn. She married Vivin Disher on December 9. 1914 and he passed away April 11. 1968 Mrs. Disher was a member of the Zion Chpel. Survivors include two sons. Charles of Syracuse and Robert of Orange. Calif.; four daughters. Mrs. George (Celia) Hoss of Elkhart. Mrs Robert (Katherine) Ratliff and Mrs Robert (Shirley) Cripe, both of

Fairfield Student Killed In Tractor Accident Friday
Dennis Eugene Thwaits, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Thwaits of r 1 Syracuse and a Fairfield school freshman, was killed instantly around 10:15 a.m. Friday in a farm tractor accident at the intersection of CR 31 and CR 50, southeast of New Paris. Death was apparently due to internal injuries when the youth was thrown fromthe tractor as it overturned. Authorities theorized one of the rear wheels passed over the youth’s body. Witness Another farmer, Keith Miller of r 1 New Paris, was discing in a field near the scene of the mishap and witnessed the tragedy. Miller said the youth was northbound on the gravel county road at a low rate of speed and he thought the young man was going across the intersection to the north but the farm unit began to turn west, and equipped with a front loader, upset onto its right side. Miller added that the roadway had much loose gravel and was like a “washboard” surface which would permit the unit to go out of control. The New Paris farmer rushed to the scene and seeing no sign of life, went to a nearby farm house and called an ambulance. The ambulance driver then notified the county sheriff's department of the boy’s death and die police in turn contacted the youth’s father. Mr. Thwaits said the tractor was locked in fourth gear meaning the unit could not have been going more than eight to ten miles an hour. He indicated the youth was

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Harris funeral home, Syracuse. Rev. Chester Reed officiated and burial was in the Stoney Point cemetery southeast of Syracuse. Clarence E. Spencer Clarence E. Spencer, 68, Bradenton, Fla . father of David Spencer of Leesburg, passed away Sunday morning in Manetee Memorial hospital. He had been a patient eight days. He had formerly lived in the Nappanee and Leesburg area and was retired from Goshen Rubber Co Mr. Spencer was born October 23,1903 in Clarence, Mo., and was united in marriage to Kitty Masterson on October 21, 1924. She survives along with two sons. David of Leesburg and Richard. Ypsilanti, Mich.; six grandchildren; and two great-

Services were held Monday at the Solomon’s Creek United Methodist church and burial was in Solomon s Creek cemetery. Denny was bom at Elkhart on March 3, 1957 to Donald and Beverly Jean (Miller) Thwaits. He was a member of the Solomon’s Creek church and Elkhart county 4-H Beef club. Surviving are the parents and New Paris grandmother; two brothers, Douglas and Dave, both at home; one sister. Mrs. Marvin (Debbie) Bontrager of r 1 Syracuse; and a grandmother. Borg Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, at Grand Rapids. Mich., for Mrs. Dorothy Borg. 58, of that city. She was the niece of Mrs. Frank Banning and the cousin of Mrs. Kermit Summers, both of r 1 Pierceton, and had been a summer visitor in the Syracuse-North WebsterPierceton community for the past 40 years. Mrs Borg died Sunday, May--21, at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids following a lengthy illness She was ban in Toledo. Ohio, but had lived most of her life in the Grand Rapids area. Fa several years she owned the Pink Geranium, a gift shop in south east part of Grand Rapids, but was forced to close the business due to ill health in 1970. Active in the Republican party, Mrs. Borg served as chairman of the Fifth District Women fa Nixon-Agnew aganization in 1968 and was elected president of the Republic Women's Federation last year. Mrs. Borg worked actively with the Kent County Hona Camp and was a member of the Zonta International and the Babies Welfare Guild, the Center Board of Blodgett hospital, the MollyBooth Guild of Butterworth hospital and the Women’s City club Survivors in addition to her husband are a daughter. Mrs. James (Sharron) Keller of San Diego, Calif., and a son. John, Jr., of Grand Rapids; her mother. Mrs. Rose Foulger of Grand Rapids and four grandchildren. The funeral services were

Mrs. Sunderman passed away at 9:15 p.m. Saturday in the Goshen hospital where she had been a patient fa three months. Born June 17, 1890 in Chesterton, Mrs. Sunderman had lived most of ha life in the Cromwell area. Her husband preceded ha in death in 1967. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran church. Surviving area brother, Walta Isaacson of Patage; and a sista. Miss Irene Isaacson of Enchanted Hills. Iris Haskins Iris (Strombeck) Haskins, 65, Redwood City, Calif., passed away at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 27. She died at her hone from complications. Mrs. Haskins had been in failing health fa 5 years. She moved to California 25 years ago from the North Websta community. Mrs. Haskins was bon on February 7, 1907 at North Manchester to John and Cleon (Howa) Strom beck. She was a member of the Unity Church of San Francisco and served in the Women's Army Cap from 1944 to 1946. Survivors include one brother, James Mullen, Hayward, Calif. I ' Si REV. BRAD QUICK Assistant Pastor Resigns At Syracuse Assistant pasta Brad Quick has resigned his position at Wawasee Heights Baptist church. Syracuse, in ader to assume the pastorate of Union Baptist church in Union Mills. His ministry at the Syracuse church concluded May 21 and he will begin at Union Mills June 4. While associated with Wawasee Heights Baptist church, pastor Quick assisted Pastor Bob Mundy with various duties. He also directed the senior high youth wok and the music program of the church. The congregation honored Pastor and Mrs. Quick with a carry-in dinna May 21. at which time they presented them with a gift fa their new home. Pastor Quick was graduated with hona from the University of Michigan with a degree in business administration. Then on May 24, 1972, he was graduated Summa Cum Laude from Grace Theological Seminary. Winona Lake, with the master of divinity degree. OTHER HOSPITAL NOTES Jay Peffley, r 4 Syracuse, is reported in good condition at the Goshen hospital where he was admitted Wednesday for tests and observation. Mr. Peffley was released on Friday. Mrs. Nolan Frieden of Leesburg was admitted last week to the Wabash County hospital, Wabash. Tim Hoppes of Syracuse is repated improving in the Goshen hospital where he was confined with pneumonia. Charles Oldfather of Nath Webster was dismissed from the Wabash County hospital, Wabash, last week. Tom Saensen of r 1 Milford remains in good condition in the Elkhart hospital. He is still in traction. Tom enjoys visits and cards from his friends. His room number is 391. Mrs. Larry D. Ousley of Leesburg was admitted to the Whitley County hospital, Columbia City, over the week end. Glon. 35, r 4 Syracuse, was examined fa a bump on ha head afta striking the windshield following a collision with an auto being operated by Wanda June Cataline, 27, Fat Wajme, at 11 a.m. Sunday. The mishap occurred on SR 13, two and one half miles north of Syracuse. A passenger in the Glon auto, Jacquelynn Glon, 10, was also treated for a bump on her head following the accident. Michelle Mohr, three, a passenger in the Cataline auto was examined by a doctor fa bumps and bruises. Michelle is from Findley, Ohio.

Mayor Russell Lloyd of Evansville has named John Augsburger of Our Town to the senior citizens committee fa the Republican party. Augsburger is a State Senata. Everyone is invited to attend the dedication and open house activities of the Christian athletic center building of the Milford Christian church on Sunday. Dedication services are set for 3 p.m. with building tours from 4 to 5 and a picnic at 5 p.m. on the church lawn. Received a letter this week from Dennis Cory who is presently In Germany. Dennis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cay of near Our Town and a graduate of Milford high school. Dennis is presently involved in mobility instruction fa students in the German Institute fa the Blind. Our best wishes go to Mrs. Bessie Sunthimer who will retire this week after teaching in the Milfad schools for 26 years. Mrs. Sunthimer, a memba of the town board, plans to spend three weeks in Europe this summer and to entertain ha 13 grandchildren While Weldon Haggerty was winner in the 21-40 year old group in the bicycle race we’re proud of the second and fourth place winners. Ronald Baumgartner was second while Ted Speicher finished fourth. Third place winner was Louie De la fuente. New Paris Giri Injured In Car-Bicycle Mishap Minor injuries were sustained by Ruth A. Wildman, 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Wildman of New Paris, at 7:50a.m. Thursday when she was struck by a car on the Huntington road northwest of Syracuse. Driver of the auto was Marion E. Wogoman, 35, 201 North Huntington street, Syracuse, who was northbound on the Huntington road nath of CR 127. He told investigating officers that he did not see the northbound bicycle rida in time to avoid the mishap. The right front of the auto struck the bicycle throwing the rider to the ground. She sustained abrasions of both knees and left elbow. The Elkhart county sheriffs department investigated.
