Four Teachers To Retire, 133 Years Os Experience
A total of four Lakeland teachers will retire at Sue current school year They have a combined total of 133 years. Teachers retiring'are: Mrs. Bessie Sunthimer. Milford elementary. 26 years; Mrs. Esther Weaver, Syracuse elementary, 39 years, Mrs Ruth Gunter. North Webster elementary, 36 years; and Mrs Edna Peebles. by the Lakeland school board members who met in special session Tuesday evening to conduct a hearing on additional appropriations from the cumulative building fund to pay for equipment and remodeling at the several schools in the corporation. Y, he has previously taught in Indiana 18 years, for strings, corporation wide;

Rita Dowty-Jane Matthews Girls 7 Staters At Milford
Ancil Geiger American Legion Auxiliary Unit 226 of Milford has selected Rita Jo Dowty of r 1 Syracuse as Girls' Stater and Jane Matthews of Milford as alternate. Girls’ State will be on the Indiana university campus in Bloomington the week of June 25 to July 2. Rita is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Dowty of r 1 Syracuse.
Luann Howell, a graduate of Ball State university who did her student teaching in the Lakeland schools, for special education at the Syracuse elementary school; ’ Thomas Taggert, a graduate of Saint Francis college, for English at North Webster junior high; And, Morris Stewart, Joyce Kaiser, Carol Koble, Paula Ganger and Jane Wieczork, all elementary teachers who have not been assigned positions as of this date. Their final assignments will be made by August 1. A review is being made of the summer high school band program and the superintendent recommended those who enroll for summer instruction be expected to march once in each community if requested to do so, unless excused by the marching band director. The recommendation was accepted and letters will be sent to all parents of band students to be read, signed and returned to the school. The following were recommended and accepted for summer employment: Driver education — Dale Brannock, Vernon Zurcher, Jerry Minton. Tom Spear, Don Storey, Don Scholar, James Alford, Terry Frank, Tony Clouse and Ken Jordan; Instrumental — Jim White, Charles Scott, Joseph Judkins and James De Lay; T-ball, baseball and tennis — Bob Long, .John Hamilton, Richard Roose, Jan Beer, JerryLambert, Ed Caskey, Don Scholer, Dan Caskey, Tom Spear, Dale Brannock, Chad Beezley and Greg Fidler ; Swimming instructors — Cynthia Peterson, Karen Jones, Linda Baumgartner, Paula Freeman, Barbara Devine, Sue Ganshorn and Celeste Hite; Swimming assistants — Larry Stidham, Mary Davenport, Teresa Ummel, Karen Allen, Linda Kehoe and Kathi Lamle; 4-H leaders — Dan Beer, Ted Davis, Lester Krull, Stanley Hoopingarner, Mrs. Sherman Bryant, Mrs. Fred Weisser, Mrs. Bob Buhrt, Mrs. Ronald Greider, Mrs. Norman Rhodes and Mrs. Robert Busch. Mr. Arnold stated preenrollment in the swimming program shows it is still growing with the mark expected to pass 1,000 this year. Board president Jerry Helvey stated the program has kept growing since it was started and has surpassed what the board thought when it decided to build the pool.

JANE MATTHEWS
She is a member of the Bethel Church of the Brethren and the Junior Auxiliary. She is a member of the girls' sports club at Wawasee and is majoring in business. Jane is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.- Paul Matthews of Milford. She is a member of the First Brethren church. She sings in the Wawasee high school choir and is a business major.
A request was approved for John Naab to apply to the division of ? vocational education for second year continuance of the career resourcPfeuidance project at the junior high schools. Arnold said it is a good program with students involved. Milford Alumni Banquet Set For Saturday, June 3 The annual Milford high school alumni banquet will be held at Wawasee high school on Saturday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour set for 5 p.m. Mrs. Maurice (Lois) Koher will be in charge of the dinner this year. Mrs. Koher is head of the school lunch program in the Lakeland Community School Corporation. A short program is being planned by the officers with Dr. James Stieglitz serving as master of ceremonies. TaMaLes Have Council Fire The TaMaLe Camp Fire group at Syracuse held a May council fire at the Syracuse Scout cabin and entertained the KoKi group. In sharing this ceremonial, the TaMaLe girls passed a requirement toward earning the firemakers rank. Diane Darr, Libby Alberts and Susan Lundquist conducted the fire lighting ceremony. The Camp Fire law, repeated in unison, was followed by roll call with the girls responding to their Indian name by telling the meaning. Steffen of the guest group responded to the awards by explaining the crafts. Susan Lundquist, Janet Wright, Cindy Schacht, Roxanne Stelter, Diane Pittman and Laura Hyndman of the TaMaLes dressed in traditional ceremonial costumes and sang and demonstrated the Camp Fire song, “Bum, Fire, Bum.” The fire was then extinguished by Marjie Pittman, Mary Jane Cox, Lynn Brown and Cathie Leonard. Judy Willard and Rose Easlev, group presidents, presided at the refreshment table. Parents of the two groups of girls were guests. Mrs. Harlan Steffen accompanied groups at the piano. Members of the TaMaLe group planning the event were Diane Darr, Judy Willard, Laura Hyndman and Susan Lundquist. Camping is when you’re never quite sure if it’s started to sprinkle or the guy next door has opened a warm can of beer.

Kosciusko County Medical Society Elects Officers The regular meeting of the Kosciusko County Medical Society was held in joint meeting with the Murphy Medical Center medical staff, in which the number is almost identical, at the Holiday Inn on May 16. The election of officers was held and the following officers were elected: * Harold Mason — president Thomas Keough — re-elected vice president Dr. Roland Snider — secretary Dr. C. B. Parke conducted the election. Poor health is an alibi more often than a fact.
