Camping No Longer For Men Only, Offers Liberation For Women, Too
Women may not consider themselves liberated at home or at work, but at the campsite they’re well on their way. Camping is no longer for men only. For years, men have been urging women to camp. Time was when camping was rough and ready, but nowadays equipment has been designed with the fairer sex in mind, reports Emily J. Berckmann, women’s service director of the Thermos Division of King-Seeley Thermos Co. Most women object to the time and trouble it takes to set up a tent. Thermos has

solved this problem with its Pop-Tent which a woman can put up without assistance in less than two minutes. In Two Colors The smaller size which sleeps two comes in red or gray; the larger size for four is available in gray only. We don’t suggest a woman could set up a Prairie Schooner by herself but if it’s gracious living she’s after, this is the tent for her. This unusual tent even has an optional curtain divider which creates two rooms. The smaller size sleeps three, the larger one four. With doubledecker bunks, double the count. Both the Pop-Tent and Prairie Schooner are fully screened and floored. You’ll free yourself from coffee making chores throughout the day if you make extra coffee at mealtimes and pour it into Thermos brand vacuum bottles to keep hot until needed. Incidentally, Thermos has a new wide mouth vacuum bottle with a removable plastic Insert that makes it possible to eat directly from the bottle. You might want to get one in either the 10-ounce or pint size for each member of the family. The male ego seems to blossom when cooking chores are al fresco so any woman

camper who plays her cards right may find the men in the family will want to take over the task of nourishing the inner man (and woman). If this is the case, don’t fight it. However, for those times when the men are off fishing, hiking or boating, it’s a blessing to have a lightweight propane stove with a vitreous porcelain cooking area that’s as easy to clean and operate as your kitchen range. A cup of coffee never tastes quite so good as it does in camp. To avoid the burned lip that so often afflicts the unsuspecting camper drinking out of a metal cup, Invest In some of the new insulated ware made by Thermos. It has the look, feel and style of china. Retain Their Heat Hot drinks will retain their heat and cold beverages will stay deliciously chilled. Highly resistant to scratches and stains, this new ware Is dish-washer-safe and ideally suited for casual dining at home, too. Any well appointed kitchen away from home should have at least one Ice chest for perishables. Finally, darkness falls even on a campsite so you’ll want to have a propane lantern or two for bright, quiet-burning Illumination.
