New Salem By MRS. HERB MOREHOUSE Bridal Shower Honors June 3 Bride-Elect Miss Diana Morehouse of r 1 Milford was feted Saturday evening with a bridal shower in the New Salem church fellowship hall. Mrs. Leo Anglin, Mrs. Robert Hurd and Mrs. Elmer Rapp were hostesses for the evening. Contests were held with prizes going to Mrs. John Plank and Mrs. Max Shively. The gift table was centered with two silver wedding rings and white doves and orchid streamers and lilacs. Miss Morehouse was assisted by Mrs. Steve Bender and Miss Sherry Hershberger of Syracuse in opening her gifts. Sheet cake topped with strawberries and whipped cream, punch, coffee, nuts and mints were served to the 36 guests including Mrs. Glen Morehouse and daughter, Georgina, mother and sister of the bride-elect; Mrs. Guy Morehouse, grandmother of the bride-elect; Mrs. Wayne New cum, Jasper, mother of the bridegroom-to-be; Mrs. Saul Rimeras, Jasper, twin sister of the bridegroom-to-be; and Mrs.. Michael Beckman and Mrs. Joseph Newcum, Indianapolis, sister and sister-in-law of the bridegroom-to-be. Miss Morehouse's marriage to Bill Newcum of Jasper will take place on June 3. -NS- • SUNDAY SERVICES Mrs. Doug Miller and Miss Helen Moellen sang the beautiful song “My God and I” accompanied by Elaine Kilmer during the morning worship hour. Pastor Lewyckyi delivered the morning message “Pentecost.” A fellowship dinner for the Lewyckys was held at noon as they will be leaving the congregation on June 1. Hymnsing was led by Max Shively on Sunday c ening. Mrs. Bruce Baker read two interesting letters from missionaries and some reports were given on others Pastor Lewyckys evening message “The Trinity in the Old Testament,” was taken

from Isaiah 48. New Salem is planning a month of missionary emphasis to be held in June. Three recently returned missionaries will be coming to the church and showing slides each Sunday. The public is invited to these special services. - NS—DOERS CLASS ENJOYS DINNER The Doers class enjoyed their dinner on Sunday at a restaurant in North Webster. After dinner they spent an hour at the Wishing Well park on route 13. A short business session was held and officers were elected to serve during the coming year which will begin September 1. Devotions were given by Mrs. Russell Baker who read Hebrew 13:1-18 and offered prayer Three readings were given — “I’m Fine, How About You?” by Mrs. Lydia Morehouse; “True Greatness” by Mrs. Elsie Weybright; and “The Senses of the Sod” by Mrs. Ray Ferverda. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs Max Miller, Mr. Earl Ulery, Mrs. Russell Baker, Mrs Lydia Morehouse, Mrs. Manda Stackhouse, Mrs. Ruth DeFries, Mrs. Elsie Weybright, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ferverda, Miss Clara Driver and guests Mrs. Zona Deeter and Mrs. Harold Chambers of Grand Rapids, Mich. Mrs. Max Miller and Mrs. Elsie Weybright were on the committee in charge of arrangements. -NSCOMMUNITY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. James Wolf of Port Huron, Mich., and Mrs. James Yeager of Goodells, Mich., were week end guests of Pastor and Mrs. David Lewycky and David, Jr. Mrs. Wolfe remained for the week. Mrs. Ray Ferverda attended an appreciation luncheon on May 17 in Winona Lake given by the Prairie View rest home.. . Open house was held during the afternoon. Mr and Mrs John Mullinix and daughters entertained Sunday for Mrs Edna Tom and Doris and Mr. and Mrs. James Tom and Julie of South Bend. Mrs. Tom’s birthday was observed. Mrs Dale Morehouse and Mrs. Robert Lashure attended a bridal shower Sunday, afternoon for Miss Mary Ann Brumfield. Mrs. Ray Ferverda and Mrs. Clara Driver called on Mrs. Inez Shively on Friday afternoon in
the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Vance who live near Chapman Lake. Mrs. Herman Ginther and Mrs. Nellie Anglin, sisters of Mrs. Shively, were also visitors in the home. Rev. and Mrs. Keith Jones of Weathersfield, Conn., called on friends and relatives Saturday in the Leesburg and Milford area. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schermerhorn are caring for the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Schermerhorn of Roann while Mrs. Schermerhorn is undergoing tests at the Wabash hospital. Mrs. Harold Chambers of Grand Rapids, Mich., attended her class reunion on Saturday at Manchester college and spent some time at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ferverda and Miss Clara Driver of Warsaw. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morehouse called in the Gerald Crowl home and John Vance home Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Inez Shively is convalescing in the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Vance. Milford Police Make Two Arrests Over Past Week End Members of the Milford police department made two arrests over the week end according to town marshal Don Drake. Arrested were Deral Everett Manley, 24, box 505, Milford, and Gerald E. McDonald, 33, 519 Mullins Drive, Syracuse. Manley was arrested for failure to have his car inspected? McDonald was arrested for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, public intoxication and driving while suspended. He was taken to the county jail and later released on bond. Members of the Fort Wayne police department also had charges against McDonald and he has been taken to the jail in Allen county. Installed In Welding Society Approximately 250 persons attended the installation ceremonies early this week when Nathaniel Crow Fick, Sr., U. S. Navy (Navsec) a resident of Lake Wawasee and Arlington, Va., was installed as chairman of the Washington, D. C., section of the American Welding society.
