Exchange Student Program The host family committee of The Youth For Understanding Foundation of Michiana. Inc. is again accepting applications from families who are interested in hosting a foreign exchange student far the 1972-73 school year. Students from 45 countries (Europe. Asia, Africa and South and Central America) will arrive during the month of August. Youth for Understanding (Y.F.U.), in cooperation with the department of state has developed several programs of international student exchanges, sending America students abroad and bringing foreign students to the United States for study. Host families receive teenage foreign exchange students as members of their own families. Each student is expected to live as a son or daughter in the family and to relate as a brother or sister to the other children in the home. The American parents are asked to provide food, lodging and loving care for the student during the approximate eleven months that he or she is in the United States. The programs of Y.F.U. are fully interfaith and interracial. The purpose of Youth For Understanding is to develop understanding among people through a family living experience. Y.F.U. was founded in 1951 and has involved more than 27,000 teenagers from nearly 50 countries. A family living experience is also provided in the American students abroad summer program. This program is for teenagers, preferably those just completing their junior year in high school. Consideration is given, however, to seniors and sophomores. Students will usually live with families or friends of former exchange students for two months in Europe, South and Central America, Asia and Africa. Students wjll see theirrespective country through the eyes of their host family. There will be opportunities for some language study and for limited travel with host families. For additional information applications write to Y.F.U'Area Representative, Richard E. Timmons, 2145 Portage Ave., South Bend, Indiana 46616.
